Thank you once again for mining for the weird gold and bringing the spoils to us. Always look forward to a fresh batch of gems. Even the older classic stuff is always good to be reminded of, sometimes we forget the oldies.
@@MakeWeirdMusic Fair enough, I lean towards hyperbole. The band is Material, the song is Upriver. The band is Samla Mammas Manna, the song is Smedjan (the forge). When you played the Henry Cow piece, I knew it by heart, one of my old favorites. I think I knew half the music you played, I especially love Design, By Gentle Giant and my favorite from that album is the song Interview, I love Gary Greens guitar solo. Thanks again, have fun.
Followed The Residents since 1976, amazing catalogue, great shows too. Coincidentally, just been listening to Kev Hopper's Whispering Foils, this morning. Henry Cow, & The Art Bears, some great stuff there.
Oh man, I LOVE THESE! Seriously. Please continue doing these, I make it a point to set aside time and watch them the whole way through. I so appreciate finding new music through these vs an algorithm any day
BOREDOMS! (...is the other band that members of OOIOO are in). If you haven't listented to Boredoms, you haven't heard weird noise. Amazing stuff. They did a crazy thing where they recruited something like 77 drummers to all play (basically) the same thing at the same time in a park. Look that up. Pretty wild.
Buke and Gass are phenomenal! Their Tiny Desk concert is such a fun watch. Make it a game to decipher who's playing which part and _how_ (especially the Gass haha) I smiled when you mentioned the artists getting noticeable increases in views and sales, that's too cool how well it's rippled out like that. Just like the last one, this will take me a few days to digest, but it's _absolutely_ worth it for the discovery. Gotta make sure I give myself the opportunity to burn these in my mind so I don't forget them. That's a huge problem I suffer from when it comes to new music because I'm so stuck in my ways of having moods for specific songs/albums versus just jamming out to a playlist. *Thank you!*
Excellent video and list to explore. I really enjoy Farmers Market, and think of them as folk fusion, to some extent. Stian Carstensen in Farmers Market has some very special talents as a multi instrumentalist and composer. I highly recommend his solo album Musical Sanatorium from 2021. It is a mix of Balkan folk, classical, neo classical, fusion, and probably more. Very cinematic/ visual triggering album. Might be a score of 1 on your scale. Carstensen, a Norwegian, has formal background in Balkan folk and American folk, and particularly known for his accordion playing. The album is on Bandcamp. He also has a great video for one of the pieces from the album that one can find on UA-cam under his own name. Enjoy these videos!
My brother called me when he heard Gankino Horo and I think this one the radio and played it to me. We grew up on music from the Balkans and we also loved Bungle, Zorn, Estradasphere etc so this was right up our alley. Saw them live around 10 times (been too long!) and it's always been a blast. No setlists, just bounce from what one member or another might feel like. From a Bulgarian stambolovo classic to a “balkanized” Barbie Girl. Check out crazy multi instrumentalist Stian Carstensen's recent solo album, it's a bit more introverted and beautiful.
Love Laurie Anderson! I have Bright Red, United States Live, and Mister Heartbreak all on vinyl! Spectacular artist! And I saw Michael Manring play with Michael Hedges way back when! Another spectacular musician!
Yesterday the UA-cam algorithm suggested your channel to me based, likely, on all the weird music I've been forever listening to and what a timely discovery for sure! I listened to your May 2024 parts 1 and 2 and then have gone on to some great hours of listening to your suggestions here in my studio. I'm an old dude and I paint and I listen to a lot of music and I thank you for taking the time to put this out there for all of us out here. So good. Thanks!
Also I think the band you’re trying to remember at 50:41 is Boredoms - Yoshimio/Yoshimi P-We from OOIOO was their drummer (also the inspiration for Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots). I think the Boredoms would be a good fit for a list like this (maybe one of their mellower pieces like Seadrum, or one of their mass drumming experiences like the BOADRUM concert recordings.) Thanks again.
Got lucky enough to see Buke & Gase years ago at Moogfest in Asheville, NC. Incredible band. The epic sound they create with just two people and limited instrumentation is crazy. And OOIOO is one of my favorite bands of all time. And of course anything Zorn or Patton related is fun. Got another recommendation for you. I don't listen to much metal because it often feels a little formulaic and sterile but there's a French band called Igorrr that does the most amazingly tasteful, intense craziness that does almost a Ween kind of poking fun at its own genre while celebrating and amplifying it - mixing live instrumentation (including a lot of classical instruments (I won't ruin the surprise for you)) with electronic stuff (synthesizers and breaks). Got to see them recently too and they put on a stupid good show. It's a lot like Fantomas on steroids. Each album they've put out has been a little different. They have some really fun videos too.
"Wierd" music is what thrills me most. Thank you for what you're doing! Loved your last one and am looking forward to listening to all your suggested tracks here!!
I have continually has massive issues finding an audience for my 22 years of weird music. It's all free and i dont do anything to get it heard by more than my core few hundred fans. Those who love it, really love it. Most people dont though. I will look into how to submit. My problem is where does one even start with my main 5 projects spanning 22 yrs?
Thinking Plague strikes me as being something that you and the fans of these lists would enjoy! The song Behold the Man might be a good place to start, but if anyone more familiar with their work has a better suggestion, that would be welcome, since I am not familiar with all of their releases. Thanks for putting out these lists, I am really digging that Michael Manring track!
For TP, "In Extremis" and "In This Life" should be a good introduction to the band, as they capture their older and newer sound neatly, then head for "Moonsongs", "History of Madness" and "Decline & Fall". But really, any album from them is perfect for these lists indeed!

@@MakeWeirdMusic try some of the Cardiacs-adjacent bands: Sidi Bou Said, Sea Nymphs, Spratley's Japs, Knifeworld, Crayola Lectern, The Dowling Poole, William D. Drake - all slightly easier to approach, all superb. But "A little man and a house and the whole world window" is a very smooth entry point for Cardiacs.
That Misha Penton's vocals remind me of the group Miranda Sex Garden. Especially the track "distance" from their Suspiria album.👍 Also, love that track "Chutzpan" and that whole album- Thanks!
Love this ! Am a big fan of the residents and curious about some of the other stuff you posted. Do you know the series “insane music for insane people”? A 3 on the weird scale but amazing. And you might also like Riopy considering the piano stuff you seem to like (level 1 - not weird)
EYE and Yoshimi were members of Boredoms. There's a big difference between early/mid and late Boredoms. For the early/mid - listen to the album 'Pop Tatari' (or song - 'Cory & The Mandara Suicide Pyramid Action Or Gas Satori') and for late Boredoms (with an ambient sound) try album 'Rebore Vol 0' (or song '777777'). Also, if you liked that Mr. Bungle album, also check out their last album 'California'.
"Design": Yes! The microtonal piano piece is awesome. Are you familiar with Kaikhosru Sorabji? Not microtonal but extreme in the extreme: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaikhosru_Shapurji_Sorabji - That microtonal piece reminded me of him a bit. Danilo P. is playing major/minor chords in the beginning, by the way.
I think some Velma and Goz of Kermeur song can be here, especially there first album. You can check Tigran Hamasyan with Arthur Hnatek and especially Hnatek, he make some weird drum session. and I forgot to mention the well named french BaroqueCore: Igorrr (check: Excessive Funeral, the best one for me) !!!
More great off-kilter music. I'll definitely get some of this in rotation. Are you familiar with Avalanche Kaito? Really interesting intercultural noise rock project - kinda like an "ethno-Battles."
Darrifourcq, Hermia, Ceccaldi absolutely wonderful. Thank you for drawing them to my attention. In this vein you might also enjoy jazz metal trio Kilter - drums, bass guitar and bass saxophone - deep... Kilter's Laurent David is also the mastermind behind the jazz metal opera La Suspendia - there are a couple of clips on UA-cam. I first heard Kilter as the support band for Panzerballett.
Thank you for sharing! I'm always adding new stuff to playlists after watching vids from your channel. It's so time consuming to sift through all the music out there to try and find interesting stuff, so I appreciate what you do. Here are a couple suggestions if you want to check them out... -OU - Pisces Crisis - Track 6 Tutti in Fila (@andybyron1 also recommended them below) -Editrix - Tell Me I'm Bad (avant garde / heavy) -Hashshashin - nihsahshsaH (similar to Secret Chiefs 3) -PoiL Ueda - PoiL Ueda - Track 4 Dan No Ura, if you want to go on a ride (prog/ rock?)
I have some extremely weird music definitely a 5 in weirdness. The first is Ron Pate's Debonaires Raudelunas Pataphysical Revue (1975) featuring the rev Fred Lane. Total weirdness. The second is Fred Lane and his hittie hot shots "Car Radio Jerome" and his other album Fred Lane Ron Pate's Debonaires "from the one that cut you". Surreal jazz describes it. The 3rd is Anne LeBaron. She has a youtube channel. Very very weird. I'm sure you'll feature them if you haven't already
@@MakeWeirdMusic Fred Lane with Ron Pate's Debonaires "from the one that cut you" really blows away the cobwebs on some rather hackneyed music genres. What they lack in rehearsal, they make up for in enthusiasm.
It appears we have an interest in common. Have you name-checked "Kew Rhone" yet? (One of my most beloved "weird music" forays, sort of a 'Henry Cow alumni rediscover tonality" thing, you might dig it.) I'll be checking back, I'm sure.
You gotta check out anything by the band "melt banana" I'm not gonna tell you what they are, because I don't even know. Also, check out Scott Walker.😊😊😊😊😊
I love your content, it's ace, lots of great stuff both brand new and familiar too me, I have all of Stump's albums (thanks John Peel) and also bought Kev Hopper's Spoombung album, had no idea he had put out Kevington, sounds fantastic, off to give the album a taste, I'm sure it won't let me down. Thanks again for what you do.
Look into Secret Chiefs 3, it's Trey Spruance from Bungle, doing some very, very weird stuff. Sometimes it's sort of techno arabic, sometimes it's prog-thrash, sometimes it's ... I dunno. Just check it out.
Can it get any more weird? I hope so. Thanks for giving some love to Cohen and Perez. I have a lot of their music in my own collection. I've seen them both perform live. I don't think I could recommend any music to you. I'm afraid it won't be weird enough. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. Such a great channel!
Thank you for all the recommendations! I found a lot that I liked on the May playlist and can't wait to get into this one. I can't remember if at some point you have already covered the legendary Ivo Papasov and his wedding band. These guys are master of their instruments and eat odd-times for breakfast. Here's one: watch?v=3cXS5QrPkDs

Zorn & Eye: you must know of the Naked City 'Torture Garden' album, a desert island disk, IMHO (an all-star cast on that record). Einstürzende Neubauten? The title track to 'Halber Mencsh' (that whole album is a masterpiece). Last Exit, the loud weird jazz super-group.
Very cool list here. I got 3 artists for you to check out. “OU” from china. “Cornelius” from Japan and “GODSWOUNDS” from Sydney, Australia. And, of course, The Grand Vizier’s Garden Party, part 2 from “Ummagumma”, my personal favourite of Pink Floyd
I was going to suggest OU. I thought they were Fronch. From Fronce. OU - Pisces Crisis (album) - Track 6 Tutti in Fila (3m in if you want to get right to some good stuff)
I’ve spent most of this afternoon listening through your most recent 2 videos. I must say I’ve made a strong connection to your project here. This is especially true since there are, let’s see, 4 artists you’ve featured who are either friends of mine or at least who are “friends of friends” (and I’m still only midway through your first video). But I want to submit a constructive critique of your numbering system. And truth be told; such classification systems are of Limited Usefulness anyway. But, hear me out. If, for instance you can give Mr. Bungle a 3 when the Beat throughout the track you chose was Steady and Easily Followable, whereas the @vishai Cohen track (the bassist, as you neglected to say) was given a 1, when the rhythm/time signature of thepiece you chose was Quite All Over the Map, then there’s something wrong with that system. IMHO. It seems to me this ought to be the rubric for determining the numbering system, if it’s necessary at all. If the Timing of the piece is “inside” enough that well-trained musicians like ourselves can Tap Our Toes along with the piece, then it’s a 1 or even a 2. If the rhythm is So All Over The Map you need a Chart to follow along with the piece then it’s a 3. What do you think?
It’s totally subjective and I’m basically judging it by whether someone like my wife would listen to it. She loves some avishai, but likes ZERO bungle 😂
Thanks for the great music suggestions. I’m a 68yo guy and most of my friends don’t listen to new music. For me all my life ,I have been searching for great new music. Here is some new and old. Tonbruket Lighthouse Tin Hat Trio Sweep Art Bears Rats and Monkeys. / Pirate Song Fred Frith Gravity Whole album Robert Wyatt Rock Bottom Whole Album SPK Zamia Lehmanni Songs of Byzantine flowers Faust Jennifer Nino Rota Galopp from Prova D Orchestra. I have it. It's rather beautifully made, but frankly it's hard work to enjoy, and even harder to find a system that will run it. The sleeve notes promise that it will do for CD-ROM what Sgt Pepper's did for albums. You may laugh. I did. The best weird CD-ROM was Ceremony of Innocence. Nothing can touch it.

Love this ! Am a big fan of the residents and curious about some of the other stuff you posted. Do you know the series “insane music for insane people”? A 3 on the weird scale but amazing. And you might also like Riopy considering the piano stuff you seem to like (level 1 - not weird)
I don’t know the series. Is it on UA-cam?
Henry Cow rocks!
oh boy they're goooood
Don't try to do it every month... Do it! ❤
Hah. I'll have to shorten the playlists each month. I don't know if I can keep up with this pace!
I haven't even gotten through the last list yet 😂
I'll make the July playlist short :)
@@MakeWeirdMusic Noooooo!,lol❤️
I think some Velma and Goz of Kermeur song can be here, especially there first album.
You can check Tigran Hamasyan with Arthur Hnatek and especially Hnatek, he make some weird drum session.
and I forgot to mention the well named french BaroqueCore: Igorrr (check: Excessive Funeral, the best one for me) !!!
Haven't heard the first one, but I know the others. Thanks for watching!
More great off-kilter music. I'll definitely get some of this in rotation. Are you familiar with Avalanche Kaito? Really interesting intercultural noise rock project - kinda like an "ethno-Battles."
I am not familiar. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Will! I trust your judgment.
Thank you for sharing! I'm always adding new stuff to playlists after watching vids from your channel.
It's so time consuming to sift through all the music out there to try and find interesting stuff, so I appreciate what you do.
Here are a couple suggestions if you want to check them out...
-OU - Pisces Crisis - Track 6 Tutti in Fila (@andybyron1 also recommended them below)
-Editrix - Tell Me I'm Bad (avant garde / heavy)
-Hashshashin - nihsahshsaH (similar to Secret Chiefs 3)
-PoiL Ueda - PoiL Ueda - Track 4 Dan No Ura, if you want to go on a ride (prog/ rock?)
That Infinien sample at really makes me think of XTC. Thanks for putting together another playlist for us.
You’re right!
i love it haha
Glad ya dig it!
Thanks once again Anthony. This is an excellent way to introduce new music.
Thank you Nicky! Always good to see your name pop up
Fantastic! I really enjoyed the last one and am looking forward to exploring this playlist. Both have a good mix of familiar and unfamiliar artists.
I'll need to mix things up a bit for July! Thanks for watching
I'll check 'em out. Thanks!
@@MakeWeirdMusic Raudelunas Pataphysical Revue is the strangest. A classic in every sense of the word. A masterpiece in weirdness 😂
@@MakeWeirdMusic Fred Lane with Ron Pate's Debonaires "from the one that cut you" really blows away the cobwebs on some rather hackneyed music genres. What they lack in rehearsal, they make up for in enthusiasm.
Wow! Thanks so much for including me in all the weird coolness!
You deserve to be on the list! You're awesome!

@@MakeWeirdMusic
Yeah for Residents and Henry Cow! Been on a big John Zorn kick with year -- and now I've got a bunch of new folks to check out.
Already started on the July list
It appears we have an interest in common. Have you name-checked "Kew Rhone" yet? (One of my most beloved "weird music" forays, sort of a 'Henry Cow alumni rediscover tonality" thing, you might dig it.) I'll be checking back, I'm sure.
I will check it out. Thanjs
So glad you gave Avishai Cohen some love. His slbum "Continuo" is one of the albums on my personal "Deserted Island Albums" list.
I LOVE Avishai! He's incredible
I like the show format. It's like old fashioned radio, with a face. BUT all the tracks were in mono, which kinda sucks.
Yeah, I have been meaning to figure that out. Audio routing is complex.
@@MakeWeirdMusic Fine with me. If your viewers want stereo, they should buy the albums, no?
Thanks man ! And thank you for making me discover some nice works here ! The pronunciation was perfect :)
You're very welcome! Great album. How'd you figure out you were in this video? I don't think I tagged the artists
@@MakeWeirdMusic I've seen my name appear in this program. But how do you find my music ?
It was a recommendation on Spotify. I just click around and explore
@@MakeWeirdMusic so, Thank you for having followed this recommandation !
You gotta check out anything by the band "melt banana"
I'm not gonna tell you what they are, because I don't even know.
Also, check out Scott Walker.😊😊😊😊😊
3+5 is cool!
You’re so welcome! Tons more content on the channel for you to enjoy.
What is that Mr Bungle stuff?! Feels like when System of a Down were the hype of weirdness, have they secretly went underground as Mr Bungle!?
oh its from 1995 wow was it PRE system?
Look into Secret Chiefs 3, it's Trey Spruance from Bungle, doing some very, very weird stuff. Sometimes it's sort of techno arabic, sometimes it's prog-thrash, sometimes it's ... I dunno. Just check it out.
Very interesting Zappa medley...I think Zappa would have liked it,
I think so too. I know Dweezil and Vai loved it
Can it get any more weird? I hope so. Thanks for giving some love to Cohen and Perez. I have a lot of their music in my own collection.
I've seen them both perform live. I don't think I could recommend any music to you. I'm afraid it won't be weird enough. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. Such a great channel!
Thank you! It can get much weirder haha. Glad you like what I do
I too like GG's Design, though to me, in the context of GG, it really isn't all that weird.
I dunno. A lot of people hate that song.
I believe I mentioned Ivo in one of the videos. His band is incredible. Steve Vai turned me onto them about 20 years ago.
Buke and Gase opened for Tomahawk years ago. I think Trevor Dunn was responsible for that.
Really?! I had no idea. Tomahawk is crazy
@MakeWeirdMusic it was the Oddfellows tour. I saw this show in Brooklyn. It could have been that Buke & Gase only played this show. I dont know.
Lots of interesting stuff - but I guess after years of listening to Zappa and modern Classical music nothing sounds strange to me anymore.
Sounds like you’ve lost your sense of curiosity about the world
@@MakeWeirdMusic No that's not what I meant - Im just so used to this kind of thing it sound perfectly normal to me.
I think nearly everything has been “done” at this point.
I really like this piece by Buke and Gase
Check out all their stuff. So good
Another great list right there, I will check a few of these out! Other weird bands to check out: Ultra Zook, Schnellertollermeier, HAH, Horse Lords, Wha-ha-ha, Albert Marcoeur, Thinking Plague, Mirthkon, Luge, Present, Univers Zero, Art Zoyd. Have fun! ;)
I’m only familiar with three of these!
I need ot revisit that stuff. It's been a while. Thank you!
Thank you!
My pleasure. Also , as you’re a “The Residents” fan, Snakefinger is an excellent choice for making weird music
#cornelius
I was going to suggest OU. I thought they were Fronch. From Fronce.
OU - Pisces Crisis (album) - Track 6 Tutti in Fila (3m in if you want to get right to some good stuff)
One more thing: check Suspended Animation by Fantomas (if you haven't).
I have the cd. Creepy stuff
Kev Harper is very nice!
Indeed
The Kev Hopper kind of reminded me of the group Present’s song “Ersatz”.
Cool! I'll have to check it out
Thanks for the great music suggestions.
I’m a 68yo guy and most of my friends don’t listen to new music.
For me all my life ,I have been searching for great new music.
Here is some new and old.
Tonbruket Lighthouse
Tin Hat Trio Sweep
Art Bears Rats and Monkeys. / Pirate Song
Fred Frith Gravity Whole album
Robert Wyatt Rock Bottom Whole Album
SPK Zamia Lehmanni Songs of Byzantine flowers
Faust Jennifer
Nino Rota Galopp from Prova D Orchestra.
John Greaves One Footnote Kew Rhone
Peter Hammill The Institute of Mental health is Burning.
John Zorn The Rain horse.
Thanks
Thanks for the recommendations!
Love these playlists. I think you should include Emme Phyzema, from Ohio. Ben Spees (The Mercury Tree) mixed/mastered/contributed to the last couple albums. Fantastic music that fits well with these playlists. On Bandcamp :)
Thanks! I am friends with them on facebook. Ben produced my friend Nick Prol's album, I think.
Ben Spees / The Mercury Tree - yes yes yes
here's some neat recommendations for multilayered polymeters (like herta and hemiola at the same time 2:3:4)
(1) Brandt Brauer Frick - Bop ua-cam.com/video/gR8KGam3m9Q/v-deo.html
(2) Plastikman - Afrika ua-cam.com/video/VOye6Dbgj5Y/v-deo.html
(2) The Black Dog - Sleep Deprivation 1 ua-cam.com/video/vkJ50PPdru4/v-deo.html
(3) Secret Chiefs 3 - Perichoresis ua-cam.com/video/oxT6CxhBGbo/v-deo.html
I like 1 and 4.
Kev Hopper's "Spozcranks" reminds me of Fred Frith's "Guitar Solos", released in 1974.
I could see that. Frith's record is a little less rhythmic, though.
@@MakeWeirdMusic Agree. The fact that Hopper is a bass player may have something to do with that.
Any Henry Cow is Great.
Except Dagmar stuff. *ducks*
Lol, the Residents are so weird. They need a special category: 4.
For sure
How heavy are we going here? Animals as Leaders, heavy? How light are we going? Hiatus Kaiyote, light?
July playlist has some HEAVY stuff. Share stuff you like.
Panzerballett 🤘🏽metal with horns 🤘🏽😀
Ohh yurrr
@@MakeWeirdMusic I’ve always felt that a good distorted guitar had a similar feel to a big horn section. Now I’m wondering if i can find a trombone to play again ( not since early grade school) to double some guitar lines. Similar to Jimi and his kazoo! 😃
This a fantastic! Thank you, sir! Are you in Az? I live in Phx. Seems we may have similar tastes.
I do! I’m near 60 and 101
naked city - torture garden !
asa chang & junray - jun ray song chang
nurse with wound - sugar fish drink
coil - animal are you
maja ratkje - voice
kimmo pohjonnen - kluster
venetian snares - my so called life
rovo - XI
hopefully some listeners will find the preferred weirdness in the list above
Thanks. I will check it out.
More Henry Cow / Fred Frith.
I need to see if I can find the Puppet Motel CD-ROM...
I forgot that existed!
@@MakeWeirdMusic I have the box somewhere, but I think that Macintosh Garden/Repository might have it.
Yamantaka Eye & Ween = Z Rock Hawaii
or….anything by Boredoms (Yamantaka Eye)
Thanks!
Good stuff as usual, thanks for this. Check graham coxon's solo albums in case you already didn't
How does one submit their own outsider recordings? I got something contemporary very different
Leave a comment. If it’s good, other people will comment. I don’t have time to listen to everything
Like post the link? Didn’t wanna step on toes…
No toes have been affected as far as I know.
I think that right under "Weirdness score" you should have a "Weirding factor" as to how likely it's to bend the listeners minds!
I know I was Weirdomotized!!!
Then these videos would be even longer! That's unbearable haha. But I get the idea.
@@MakeWeirdMusic 😜😅🤪
Hey! Loving the music! Can I send you my last lp? Maybe it’s not that weird but I’d love to see if you would like it.
You're welcome to, but there's no guarantee I will listen.
@@MakeWeirdMusic fully understand! There’s so much music being released now which is why content like this is invaluable! :)
