Man I love your editing, no filler just bam bam bam get on with it. Cool video. I'm finishing up a DIY tele and I'm already looking ahead to doing a strat style. I like your DIY ethos for solving the trem rout cavity fill.
Hey thanks very much for the kind comments. I'm really just a hack, but I'm glad you got something positive out of the video. That's the goal really. It can be an intimidating prospect to build/rebuild a guitar, but even with limited knowledge and tools it's still possible and it's fun! Good luck with your Tele build and please post a video it when you've finished it! Thanks again.
Great guitar when finished , i have watched the video twice now and i am going to have a go at doing the same with all second hand parts off ebay . we all need something to do in lockdown
I like how you filled in the trem cavity. I always liked the simplicity of a hard tail better! The finish looks cool too! Does remind me of a fast car like Starsky & Hutch had!👍😎🎸🎶
I just ordered a hardtail Squier Bullet Strat off Ebay, but I won't get to see it until I visit the UK in September. It was too good a price to miss though. It's a toploader too. Hopefully it'll be good and I can do a video on that one.
Great Job! With all the cheap ST Type guitars available from China, this is the way to go. Great Job! Those racing Stripes are killer. Congrats! ~ Cheers!
I always wanted to see if it was possible to change from a tremelo bridge to a hard tail. You did it nicely. I've never been crazy about tremelos. Always prefered hardtails. Just simpler, I guess. I have a tremelo and have it blocked. I painted and reliced the body myself and if I could do it over, I would do like you did and fill in the tremelo cavity and convert it to a hardtail Strat. Thanks for the video!👍😎🎸🎶
Nice build. Sadly, it seems almost no pickup maker manages to get "vintage '50s" pickups right. They should be unpotted, lower output, and should have a crisp clarity to the sound. These sound no different than modern muddy humbuckers.
Yes the black one on these Vansons is the black one, but one of these had the wires the wrong way round from the factory, so I had to wire them the opposite way, just so you know.
@@jordijarper4441 I just realised I made a typo on my reply before. I meant the black is supposed to be ground. I have two sets of these pickups and one set was wired correctly with black as ground for both pickups. The set that was wrong was easy to tell because both pickups together had that out of phase tone.
@@RobCmusic very original. I liked the body shape, but when I went catalogue searching through a tonne of guitar websites, came up empty. Cheers from Canada
At the very end of the video when the graphic says something like noRw the bridge pup, my favorite. There is an unfinished guitar body that appears to be the beginning of a replica a Ernie Ball St. Vincent cutout of wood at a fairly early stage. Is that what it is and would you please do a thorough video on her? I love those even though I'm a straight man. It seems like the people that normally attracted to them are women or girls or gay men. Although I was indifferent to its shape at first. I stopped at a local music store and they had a few. I first asked the owner if deposit was required to play.one, since they are well North of 2 grand. He said no but did make a sales associate take it off the wall and plug it in. And stay with me while I was playing 2 or 3 guns n roses songs. I think it may have fit my body, play easier. And have the most incredible neck I've ever felt. I'm definitely going to get one 2nd hand or get the sterling which is Ernie Balls Epiphone. Beautiful job on the STRAT as well.
It's not really a replica of that guitar, but it was inspired by it. When I first saw it, before I knew what it was, I thought it looked very, very cool without any thought about gender (why would I?) Music Man have a cheaper range of guitars called "Sterling by Music Man" (like Fender have Squier), which also make a version of this guitar. I may consider getting one of those in the future - it's a lot cheaper. That body on my sofa is most likely a write-off. I messed up the neck pocket and it's not straight. I did try a repair and it may be ok, but it's probably easier to start again to be honest. However I feel the need to rant a little about the so-called philosophy behind that guitar. I cringed when Annie Clark first described her St. Vincent sig. as a non-gender specific guitar because I think it's crazy to believe all guitars up to this point were designed for men only. I think it's more a marketing tactic. What about Mary Kaye in the 50s? She's had a signature guitar for years... a Strat!
I have a stray body I've been wanting to make a hard tail out of and this is the best video I have seen thank you

I've watched this again. This was a really good idea, because the hardtail bodies are really difficult to find!😎👍🎸🎶

Thanks for the comment. Next time I might prefer getting a hardtail Strat body already!
Rob C Music ya...a lot of extra work!
I done the same hardtail. Vanson 57. Is genius. Harley benton hss 😏 this sounds great.
I knew a dentist once, his name was Phil McCavity 😆👍
That was a scary noise that router made... :-)

Connection pickup neck ground wire black ? Output yellow? Thanks

the neck is the one you wired backwards. Because if so, I think they all come like this. thanks

How about that Explorer-esque body In the background at 11:37 ? I curious what the shape is called. Interested in building my own guitar :)
It was my first attempt at a DIY body. Turned out to be a write-off. The neck pocket was wrong. I haven't got round to having another try yet!

@@eriklabelle7759 The shape I tried was loosely inspired by the Music Man St. Vincent signature. I thought it looked really cool.
All it needs now is 10 years of wear and it'll look even better
What bridge is that?
I've had several people ask me this the last few days.
It's here, from Thomann (affiliate link)

Good tone . pot vol 500 k y tone 500 k? Thanks
Yes: 500k vol, 500k tone (both audio taper) and a 0.022 tone capacitor.

Sorry but it sounds muddy to me.
