I may only be 14, but I've had the pleasure of meeting her twice. She was my main idol since mid-2017. I love her so much, still can't get around the fact that she's gone. Even with people close to her tryna get me down because I'm an autistic girl with love for a 90-year old. I don't care, bring on the haters, they can't stop me! ♡
I'm watching Mysterious Island right now, Joan Greenwood has the most wonderful voice, I could listen to her talk for hours, you just don't hear voices like that anymore.
@@frederickwallace6552 Ooh, I didn't realize that Joan Greenwood dubbed Anita Pallenberg as the Great Tyrant; no wonder that character gave teenage me "funny feelings".
Yes and to say Patrick McGoohan phoned her to ask/tell her to be the voice of the village I was surprised she received no on screen credit for being so.
Thanks I didn't know that , watching it now on legend TV channel, one thing I did was stand outside the famous door and street in London of the prisoner , which I have always wanted to do, but the red post box has gone a few m metres from the house.
I'm a poet and had the complete joy of working with Fenella on my poetry. I'm a Liverpool poet who writes a lot about Liverpool and hearing Fenella, with that uniquely beautiful voice recite my poems, My Scouse Voice and Tiffany Bling (a poem about dead hard scally Scouse girls), was the purest revelatory joy. Gracious as generous, my life is better for her being in it. Lovely tribute by the way. Gx
As a youngster I had a massive crush on the wonderful Fenella Fielding as Valeria Watt in Carry on Screaming, the film bought forth one of the initial looks for Gothic styled women long before the genre surfaced or even the description Goth existed. Fenella was far more than carry on screaming though and her performances will be enjoyed by the generations to come as well as being fondly remembered by all, rest in peace lovely lady
I will never forget Fenella as the camp vamp in Carry On Screaming, whilst she was a very talented actor all round and had a diverse career in that films she brought the role of Valeria to life (pardon the pun) and will be remembered always for the red dress which was as velvetty as her voice. Rest in peace Fenella.
She had a voice like marbled chocolate and the natural charisma to steal a scene without even having to utter a word. More than that, she seemed to belong to that very rare band of people who never really grow old, even as she entered into her nineties. I doubt we'll ever see another Fenella Fielding. R.I.P.
Loved Fenella in `Carry on Screaming` (which I saw on its release at Barkingside ABC in 1966) - probably had the sexiest female voice ever - sadly missed.
i remember watching this when i was a young bat ! , the monsters in it were quite scary at the time for a young child but it quickly became my favourite carry on movie, i love them all but this one is still my favourite to this day !
Wow, I haven’t heard that soundtrack album since I was very young and played it all of the time, but instantly remembered those clips! It was the first, and for a long time the only record I owned, and I remember being disappointed that my dad’s Beatles album was full of songs, and not ‘a story’ like my Dougal and the Blue Cat record. Yes, her voice was unmistakable, though I don’t think I ever made the connection between the voice of Blue and the woman who stirred up new and awkward feelings in an older me watching her in Carry On films a few years later! And now I will probably have to spend all morning trying to find that soundtrack again, for one more listen.
I had the soundtrack but have never seen the film...for some reason it gave me nightmares for a quite a few years when I was a kid...thanks for the reminder!!!
I loved her in the Hancock's Half Hour episode on radio entitled 'The Poetry Society'. When her very bohemian character is asked what type of music she liked she replied, "I can only tolerate Bartok and Webern".
THE most important and influential Gothic fantasy figure in children's mind from the 1960s onwards! Runner(s) up would be the Teutonic maidens from the Robert Powell film, Mahler ;-) Carry On Screaming also happens to be one of Mark Kermode's favourite films, alongside with The Exorcist!
In the mid 90's my mate Richard was working in London trying to get some work as a music photographer. Whilst running across the Parliament lawn he happened upon The Fabulous Fenella and Vanessa Redgrave who were sitting on the grass taking part in some sort of press-covered reunion. Richard who adored Fenella as deeply as I when we were kids asked (as his Yashica Mat was around his neck) if he could take a couple of photos? Not only did she say yes but he was asked to join the picnic. Richard used square-format and I have seen one of the 10/8" photos. So so awesome to have met her, and then to discover she was a true sweetheart in real life. 🏆
I just caught 'The Old Dark House' on the Talking Pictures channel. Fenella's superb as the abandoned femme fatale, against Jeanette Scott's more innocent ingenue. But who's the real villain? A must for any fans of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I still think fennella is one of the sexiest women to grace our screens along with valerie leon as a kid they made me realise I what me blokes bits were made for 😊😊
She was in a children's series in the late 80's/early 90's where she was an evil super villain trying to destroy the earth in someway or another. That was the first time I saw her. I would love to know what the series was called as it had some great people in it. I'm off to google this and try and find a link to it. Which I'll put in the comments if I find any.
I had to check if Fenella was in Barbarella as The Great Tyrant... she's not but Anita Pallenberg, who does play the role sounds just like Fenella. (Edit Pallenberg was dubbed, Joan Greenwood in fact voiced The Great Tyrant)
And I thought it _was_ Fenella who voiced over for Anita Pallenberg. Shame it wasn't, but what a velvet voice! And she was gorgeous too. Oh lor! My knees have gone all wobbly!
Great bit of casting by Roger Vadim though - Pallenburg as The Great Tyrant's body and Greenwood as The Great Tyrant's voice. He could've saved money by casting Fenella Fielding as both ;)
_"Fenella Fielding had a voice like no-one else"_ Not quite true. Her voice was very much like Joan Greenwood's. French film director Roger Vadim came up with a great bit of casting for his Barbarella film. For the role of The Great Tyrant, he hired Anita Pallenburg (Brian Jones & Keith Richards' girlfriend) to play The Great Tyrant's body and Joan Greenwood to play The Great Tyrant's voice! He could've saved money by casting Fenella Fielding as both ;)

good for you amber if she makes you happy! she was such an interesting lady !
You show good taste, a thing that seems to be in short supply nowadays.
♥
Fenella Fielding's voice, like those of Joan Greenwood and Glynis Johns, was a thing of beauty.
I'm watching Mysterious Island right now, Joan Greenwood has the most wonderful voice, I could listen to her talk for hours, you just don't hear voices like that anymore.
And Felicity Kendal.
I couldn't agree more
Joan Greenwood in Barbarella. Lovely.

A truly wonderful beautiful captivating lady.... My first crush... R.I.P
God bless, Fenella. Icon of stage & screen.
To me, she will always be the voice of the Village, in The Prisoner. A role that was uncredited.
Well I didn't know that! Good shout.
Yes! "Today's flavor is strawberry." XD

Also in a very early episode of The Avengers.
Two carry on stars this week! The wonderful Liz fraiser too! Good to see a tribute to fenella! Fantastic actress and wonderful screen presence
A remarkable Woman who suffered much, yet was able to bring an incredible amount of joy to so many.
Not a bad legacy?

RIP Fenella, & Burt Reynolds, too.

...and of course she was the omnipresent voice of the Village in the TV cult classic The Prisoner. Goodbye goodbye Fenella. Be seeing you xx
What a wonderful and personal tribute.
Carry On Screaming was my favorite Carry On movie and she was the best thing in it.RIP lovely lady.

very sweet tribute a wonderful lady and what a voice she had
Every Christmas I adored this classic & she made it perfection in that red dress she was beautiful inside & out
Incredibly underrated and underappreciated actress.
I saw "Carry On Screaming" for the first time not too long ago. She was great.
Wow for the first time 😮I’m so glad you have seen such a classic 😊
Top tribute to one of smokiest & sexiest voices. Great talent. *RIP*
Met her years ago on the bus in Camden
Class lady
I had the record of Dougal And The Blue Cat when I was growing up. Happy memories of it. RIP FF!
Loved Fenella in `Carry on Screaming` (which I saw on its release at Barkingside ABC in 1966) - probably had the sexiest female voice ever - sadly missed.
Absolutely outstanding actress
I loved her in Carry on Screaming and Guest House Paradiso!
I’ve never loved a woman’s voice more. I loved her so much in Carry on Screaming

Awwwh sweet video :) Mark is very good at writing things to remember people by. Mainly focusing on what made them brilliant.
I fancied her to the max in Carry on Screaming.

It's bonkers.
Me too! 😃

I just adore her..❤
The last thing I saw her in was Skins series 6 episode 3 where she played the grandmother of teenager Alex.

Is she Kate Bush & Robert Smiths’ mum because Fenella made the ultimate Goth Goddess 🏴❤️
