It's amazing how many names on this list were blacklisted due to the mid 20th century equivalent of the witch hunts. With Charlie Chaplin however, there were definitely other, more serious reasons to choose from.

While I don't condone his pedophilia (pursuing very young girls) he wasn't doing anything most men in that industry did at that time.

This blacklist was 💯% true. She and others talked about it clear back in the day, and even though I was just a kid, I remember it.

There was another kind of blacklisting that you didn't really mention - and the most prominent name involved with this blacklist was William Haines. Haines was one of the most popular stars between 1925 and 1934. But word spread around Hollywood that he was gay. After that, he could not get an acting job, not even in supporting roles. However, he was also considered the foremost interior decorator in Hollywood, and was able to make a very good living designing homes for actors and actresses and, eventually designed sets for dozens of movies. Personally, I think that the old trope about gay men being great interior decorators came from how good he was. But after 1934, he was never in another movie, despite the fact that he lived until 1973.

Because of being involved with the Red Scare, John Garfield died really young at the age of 39 which is so sad, he could have done so many more films if he hadn't been blacklisted

Good list, but it's so sad that artists are targeted like this. Even with today's abhorrence with celebrities who lean left or hint at leaning left, targeting artists is just U.S. censorship at its worst.

Trina, sweetie: did you not watch this video all the way through? Do you not understand English? They were REAL birds that attacked Tippi. The video CLEARLY states that. Honey, are you disagreeing with that? Because there are tons of testimony and evidence which documents that the birds (most of them) were REAL. What's your evidence, pumpkin, that the birds were all mechanical? I suggest you watch the entire video again, dearie, before posting such an incorrect comment.

He was blacklisted as a Communist for, among other things, supporting Russian War Relief (RWR) campaigns during World War Two.
WELL DUHH! Of course, he did! Remember that during that war, the Soviet Union (as Russia was called in those days) WAS ONE OF OUR MOST EFFECTIVE AND IMPORTANT ALLIES, and not an enemy like Germany, Italy, and Japan. In fact, many decent people, including celebrities, became Pro-Russian (but not necessarily Pro-Communist) ON DIRECT ORDERS FROM THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ITSELF!
In other words, the government branded these people as "Reds" for something that it, the government, ordered them to do, and they were called "traitors to their country" for backing A WAR-TIME ALLY!
Talk about doublethink! This would have done George Orwell proud.

A particular federal agency that investigates is mentioned several times here. This particular agency has also gone after political figures, like John F. Kennedy (and we all know how that ended). Since this agency is once again as out of control as it was during the reign of J. Edgar Hoover, it is time to say goodbye to this agency and farm out it's duties to other agencies.
