I stuck with Jimmy Swaggart through the rough times and I'm so happy I did! He's still preaching the truth to a world that sorely needs to hear the truth. I've purchased several copies of the "Expositor's Bible" and find it it be a great study aid. The "Giant Print" edition is great for some of us older folks that don't like to wear our reading glasses when we study...
The little town I'm from had several loggers that were supporters of brother Swaggart during the 80's but they turned their backs on him. Today they are financially broke and one even died a miserable death with a family addicted to drugs. Other businesses men that continued to support brother Swaggart have prospered.
@@bobbywatts222 It's amazing how judgemental we can be, when someone else is in a mess. I remember a similar situation with a gospel singer who got involved with a member of her band. People stopped buying her records. Years later, she does concerts again and all's fine. She married that band member and they're still married. While I don't condone the actions, as Jesus said, "Let he (or she) who is without sin, cast the first stone." I've always liked Jimmy. Felt bad for him during that time, but I'm glad he didn't just fold up his tent, as it were. He repented and God forgave him. That's that. He's a better preacher, now, for having been through that valley. Experience is a severe teacher but you learn.
WOW! The way those books were flying, I could just imagine one of the elders face-palming, "This is a lawsuit waiting to happen." Not to mention the cost of fixing the books. The message was worth it, though. I SOOOOOOO NEED THIS MESSAGE!
Wonderful to open our devotional with. Better to have Christ than to die without Him. The way to find Him is to call on His name and invite Him in your heart by faith
I was present at this service. You may wonder why Jimmy poured water over the head of Donnie. At the beginning of the service, Donnie made a point that he was the only Swaggart to complete college. Jimmy responded that he didn't finish high school because he would have been required to take a class on evolution which he declined. There was considerable tension between Jimmy and Donnie the rest of the night. Thus the water over the head. Great service.

I'm looking for a particular sermon from Jimmy Swaggart.. It was the early 90's. It was about Jesus going to the cemetery after Lazaruz died. Jimmy Swaggart roared about the name of Jesus. He went on about how Jesus HAD to call Lazaruz by name bc if He didn't~ the entire graveyard would have rose up to the sound of the Master's voice. PRAISE GOD!! Can anyone please help me identify or find this sermon?? Thanks and God Bless.

Even not being yet a believer, I do not give a cent to the maledicencies posted against J.Swaggart because they sounds like there having uneditable backstage envy reasons with the aim to destroy him. In addition to his preaching true addressing to the wrong-doings that have been causing lack of hope and, drugs and alchool addictions, he says what presumably most of people even from other countries would like to! Furthermore, his inspiring and great talent for singing, composing and conducting an excellent instrumental band, lead to the attempts to destroy him! Thus, no disregarding those gossips is rather an ingenuity and hyprocrizy than a wise posture. On the other hand, the preach focusing on messages of hope and trust in God do better works on the suffering minds and broken hearts! The current times do not give space for non-so-serious sins.
Swaggart expositor's 1 Tim 3:2 says about the qualifications (these are qualities, and not qualifications as some claim). Mine bibles in captions call them qualifications. Changing qualifications to qualities makes Jimmy look like he is qualified. He knows he isn't qualified according to 1 Tim 3:2, so he willingly desecrates the sacred words of the bible. Rev 22:18-19 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Thankfully, it gets peoples' attention that there might be a God and later getting saved. Jimmy does not qualify to be pastor or church leader, according to 1 Tim 3:2. Jimmy needs to repent for desecrating the bible.
Yes Jimmy has a very powerful and good message. It is important to focus on this message rather than his life, which is sadly only too human.
