I hope the Lord keeps him around a bit longer I'd like to make it back down to FWC & catch one more service with him. I remember how mom cried watching this moment while my unsaved dad watched it and said...he hasn't done anything other men haven't done...my dad was more forgiving of him than a lot of church folks were.

I remember this well in 1988 I was 25yo. My mom and grandmother were still alive. Saturday mornings in our home back then was at 10:30 am the Jimmy Swaggart show. Grandmother loved him and the music. This day both granny and mom were glued to the TV and they were crying. My granny had sent money to this ministry. She would say that Frances is so pretty. Granny died in 1990 and Mother died in 2003. Daddy died 1996. Swaggart is going to be 89 this year. They raise 3 millions dollars a month that's not bad. So, his ministry survived,
Thank God for all you people out there that see's that Jimmy is Human just like me and you. We all have sinned and im thankful for the mercy of God. If everybody in the world would show the love of Christ and the Mercy of God on everyone the Church would do so much better. Sorry to say there are to many people who become critic's forgetting how many sins they have committed. Its going to be a sad day when all the people who did nothing but talk bad about Jimmy when they stand before God. When you judge with no mercy God will judge you with no mercy. If I told you that my mother predicted his fall; she said Jimmy was too hard on people w/addictions. I believe this was in God's plan. Maybe, I don't know, but he's nipping on 90 yrs old. You can debate me if you want, but in my book, Jimmy Swaggart will always be one the greatest preachers God ever gave the body of Christ. Jimmy Swaggart is one of the biggest factors in my family coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. When my Grandparents were backsliden back in the 70’s, it was Jimmy Swaggart’s Radio and Tv Broadcasts that helped them return to Christ. Which paved the way for their kids and eventually for me. I will always love, respect, and esteem Jimmy Swaggart. He helped bring Pentecost to the spotlight and the world to the foot of the cross.
I agree he is one of the greatest and it cost money to do what he does. If we don’t go to other countries to spread the gospel we needs to send money to the cause!!

I'm a Catholic, but happen to enjoy Jimmy's music. I guess this moment remains an off-limits topic within the FWC today. But please don't think of him as nothing but pure evil. He's done a lot for God through his singing and piano playing, though in common to everyone else, he's got his flaws too.
Their music ministry is second to none in my opinion such talent anointing & professionalism. I had a chance to play a campmeeting with them & it was a beautiful thing.

Bro. Jimmy failed more than once, because of sin. He being hurt by others lead him to choose flesh, instead of The Holy Spirit, for healing. Yet, he finally realized Jesus was his only help, for forgiveness and healing. He called on Jesus again. The Lord forgave and healed him.
I pray no one finds out all my faults, then 30 years later puts it out for the world to see. But, even then, my God has forgiven and forgotten. And that’s all that truly matters.

If a man whose job was to kill all the Christians he could find, later blinded on the road to Damascus, become the same person, Paul (whose latter name was Saul) was used of God to write half the New Testament, then I did forgive Jimmy Swaggart as no one is not capable of forgiving. Jim and Ester Rentz wasted no time getting out of there. I had a relative who was in the FWC Choir & attending JSBC at the time. He said the day after this service JSBC saw a mass exodus of its student body & basically shut down. Just after the PTL scandal I attended my first camp meeting in Nov 1987 & noticed that morning the microphone & spot where Janet Paschal stood in ministry was vacated & the mic and chair removed. A whirlwind of whispers filled the building...mostly WHERE'S JANET? WHAT'S HAPPENED TO JANET? Turns out the Lord directed her out of there in advance. That same day I found it very disturbing that during the taking of offerings...those presiding over it told the congregation we don't have hotels and water slides at this ministry. That grated on my spirit & when all this came to light I realized why. They rejoiced at the fall of Jim and Tammy & PTL and sure enough it came back around to bite them. It's a reminder that any of us are subject to falling & we better take heed that without HIS GRACE MERCY AND FORGIVNESS WE ARE NOTHING.

Only God knows if Swaggart was sincere in this speech or not, but I’d be much more convinced that he was if he announced his resignation. Going forward, any mention of his name was going to make people immediately think of his prostitution scandal, and that would’ve been a huge impediment to the activities of the church. Had he resigned, his church could’ve started the healing process.

The comments of Matthew Henry on chapter 2 of Romans verses 21-24 are most appropriate with what took place here in 1988. Confession of sin is not repentance of sin. "That they sinned against their knowledge and profession, did that themselves which they taught others to avoid: Thou that teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? Teaching is a piece of that charity which begins at home, though it must not end there. It was the hypocrisy of the Pharisees that they did not do as they taught (Matt 23 3), but pulled down with their lives what they built up with their preaching; for who will believe those who do not believe themselves? Examples will govern more than rules. The greatest obstructors of the success of the word are those whose bad lives contradict their good doctrine, who in the pulpit preach so well that it is a pity they should ever come out, and out of the pulpit live so ill that it is a pity they should ever come in."
@@realshanegray You are mistaken if you think confession is repentance. King Saul confessed his sin to Samuel but their was no repentance in his heart. What did he immediately do when he was confronted with his failing to obey the Lord and told he was now rejected by the Lord? “Then he said, ‘I have sinned; yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.’” (First Samuel 15:30) Saul wanted back up and support that he was still king over Israel from Samuel before the leaders and nation of Israel even though he was no longer king in the eyes of the Lord. I was attending JSBC back in 1988. Some of my college instructors would not support JS in his refusal to submit to the AG rehabilitation plan of a one year hiatus from preaching. They were terminated because they would not support his decision to reject the discipline of the AG leadership. His public confession of sin was not repentance but purely damage control. Had he truly repented he would have submitted to the AG rehabilitation requirement. JS had always publicly insisted that ministers guilty of immoral sexual behavior must step down for a year from preaching to demonstrate their humility and sorrow for a moral failure. JS said any minister that refused to do so was evidencing an unrepentant heart. Of course when he had a sexual failure he was not going to abide by the very demands that he insisted others must abide by. That is not a repentant heart.

He was caught three times, actually, in December 1995 he was caught in a red light district not too far from his church, looking for prostitutes with pornographic magazines in his car, claiming he was trying to investigate a radio tower...which he had already sold eleven months prior.
I believe those tears were because he saw all the money flying out the window. Had he really been repentant the he would felt sorry and would have confessed during some of his sermons way before he was exposed. After this incident happened he messed up a few more times to which he said it was no one’s business…..doesn’t sound very much like repentance to me.

Not to mention, he wanted the daughters of now ex-prostitute Debra Murphree, and housewife Catherine Kampen, both girls being *only 9 and 12 years old,* to watch (even asked the prostitutes questions you'd expect to see in a chat log from someone caught in a nonce sting), which fortunately never happened. Had that happened, had he so much exposed himself in front of the two girls, he'd be in prison (he'd have been arrested for those chats anyways if he had done this nowadays), would be placed on the sex offender's registry for life (sex offender sentences in Louisiana and the Bible Belt are always life sentences) as a possibly Tier II or Tier III offender, completely excommunicated from all churches and expelled from the Christian community, be permanently banned from and not be allowed to wander nor live within 2000 feet (610 meters) of a church, playground, school, school bus stop, daycare, amusement park, beach, or any other places with children or any elderly or disabled people considered vulnerable to sex offenders, would never be able to get another job (not that he would have had marketable skills since he dropped out and only has an 8th grade education, no college degree and not even a high school diploma), would not be able to vote in elections, without a pardon from the governor of Louisiana at the time, who, in 1987 and 1988, would have been Edwin W. Edwards (Democratic) and Charles Elson "Buddy" Roemer III (Republican), and not allowed into/permanently banned from all future crusades/revivals, campmeetings, church picnics, potluck dinners, Bible studies, harvest festivals, Passion Plays, Christian bookstores, and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter celebrations/services. Part of it could have stemmed from the fact that Swaggart was introduced to porn at a young age (probably in his early teens) but that's still no excuse. Like I said, it also wasn't the first time he was caught in sin, he was caught twice more, in Indio, California, in October of 1991, only like one week after his crusades, whilst driving down the road Jimmy panicked seeing a policeman as he had pornographic magazines in a car he'd borrowed from a friend, and when trying to stuff them under the seat, swerved onto the wrong side of the road, causing him to get pulled over, and surprise, there was another prostitute in the passenger seat. Then in December of 1995, the same year his ministry published a Rock Of Ages Family Edition KJV Bible, Swaggart was pulled over in a red light district not far from his church with porno magazines in his car...again (his excuses were that he was "lost", and then that he wanted to "check out a radio tower"...which he'd already sold eleven months prior!!), and while he was released because of lack of evidence, it still has tarnished his reputation. Not to mention, mind you, he was convicted in court of defamation of Marvin Gorman, where he ruined Gorman's career all because of jealousy and was ordered to pay ten million dollars to him (there's a part where Gorman was crying and apologizing, for what he did, but Gorman's crying I believe actually was real, unlike Swaggart's). Read the book _Let Us Prey_ by Hunter Lundy. Jimmy is more of a modern day King Saul than a Man of God, (and he's also got a fake study Bible that's twisting the Gospel to his own views, as an excuse for what he did) like Israel's first king, has failed to realize that _...rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry._ - 1 Samuel 15:23 NIV I think Lundy summed it up best on page 269 of his book: “Jimmy Swaggart was basically a naïve and ignorant man, an ill-educated bumpkin who had somehow stumbled into greatness - into celebrity - by virtue of God-given talents and an imperfect understanding of human nature. He had instinctively mastered the powers that came from combining spectacular showmanship with faux eloquence to exploit the masses, to move millions to emotional expression to enrich himself and enhance his personal status.” And Lundy is no atheist, he's a Southern Baptist Christian, and he's exposing a false prophet there.

Jimmy Swaggart is one of the biggest factors in my family coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. When my Grandparents were backsliden back in the 70’s, it was Jimmy Swaggart’s Radio and Tv Broadcasts that helped them return to Christ. Which paved the way for their kids and eventually for me. I will always love, respect, and esteem Jimmy Swaggart. He helped bring Pentecost to the spotlight and the world to the foot of the cross.

I'm a Catholic, but happen to enjoy Jimmy's music. I guess this moment remains an off-limits topic within the FWC today. But please don't think of him as nothing but pure evil. He's done a lot for God through his singing and piano playing, though in common to everyone else, he's got his flaws too.
Their music ministry is second to none in my opinion such talent anointing & professionalism. I had a chance to play a campmeeting with them & it was a beautiful thing.

Jim and Ester Rentz wasted no time getting out of there. I had a relative who was in the FWC Choir & attending JSBC at the time. He said the day after this service JSBC saw a mass exodus of its student body & basically shut down. Just after the PTL scandal I attended my first camp meeting in Nov 1987 & noticed that morning the microphone & spot where Janet Paschal stood in ministry was vacated & the mic and chair removed. A whirlwind of whispers filled the building...mostly WHERE'S JANET? WHAT'S HAPPENED TO JANET? Turns out the Lord directed her out of there in advance. That same day I found it very disturbing that during the taking of offerings...those presiding over it told the congregation we don't have hotels and water slides at this ministry. That grated on my spirit & when all this came to light I realized why. They rejoiced at the fall of Jim and Tammy & PTL and sure enough it came back around to bite them. It's a reminder that any of us are subject to falling & we better take heed that without HIS GRACE MERCY AND FORGIVNESS WE ARE NOTHING.

JESUS SAVES

How can we hear it? Scripture tells us. Romans 10:17 "Then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (We receive the "word" in many ways. The "Word" is Jesus Christ!); John 1:1-5. God the Holy Spirit teaches through the Word of God in the Bible.
The Birth of Jesus Christ
Isaiah 7: 14: "Therefore the LORD shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and call His name Immanuel." Hebrew: עִמָּנוּאֵל, "God with us" in human flesh but without sin. The Savior of the world was born to die for our sins! He did so 33 years later. His terrible ordeal; body mutilated; blood poured out, finally died (John 19:30; Luke 23:46 ) and was placed in a tomb and rose from the dead the 3rd day ! "HE IS RISEN" Matthew 28: 6.

Only God knows if Swaggart was sincere in this speech or not, but I’d be much more convinced that he was if he announced his resignation. Going forward, any mention of his name was going to make people immediately think of his prostitution scandal, and that would’ve been a huge impediment to the activities of the church. Had he resigned, his church could’ve started the healing process.

What did he immediately do when he was confronted with his failing to obey the Lord and told he was now rejected by the Lord? “Then he said, ‘I have sinned; yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.’” (First Samuel 15:30) Saul wanted back up and support that he was still king over Israel from Samuel before the leaders and nation of Israel even though he was no longer king in the eyes of the Lord. I was attending JSBC back in 1988. Some of my college instructors would not support JS in his refusal to submit to the AG rehabilitation plan of a one year hiatus from preaching. They were terminated because they would not support his decision to reject the discipline of the AG leadership. His public confession of sin was not repentance but purely damage control. Had he truly repented he would have submitted to the AG rehabilitation requirement. JS had always publicly insisted that ministers guilty of immoral sexual behavior must step down for a year from preaching to demonstrate their humility and sorrow for a moral failure. JS said any minister that refused to do so was evidencing an unrepentant heart. Of course when he had a sexual failure he was not going to abide by the very demands that he insisted others must abide by. That is not a repentant heart.

He was caught three times, actually, in December 1995 he was caught in a red light district not too far from his church, looking for prostitutes with pornographic magazines in his car, claiming he was trying to investigate a radio tower...which he had already sold eleven months prior.
I believe those tears were because he saw all the money flying out the window. Had he really been repentant the he would felt sorry and would have confessed during some of his sermons way before he was exposed. After this incident happened he messed up a few more times to which he said it was no one’s business…..doesn’t sound very much like repentance to me.

Oh, and though I freely admit to being a bit of a Bible geek, I can't help but notice that when he was reading Psalm 51, Swaggart was playing up his act so much he failed to notice he swapped parts of the fourth verse around; it's "thou speakest" first, then "thou judgest", and there's no "unto thy church" in the eighteenth verse.
And I'm sure you've sinned thousands of times since then. My goodness. Praise the Lord for his continued ministry.

I've explained in paragraph two though, how Swaggart has not been repentant for what he did, or if he has repented, I'm not sure, there's no proof that he did. And he also rebelled against what the Assemblies of God offered (stepping down from the pulpit but returning if he underwent counseling/therapy for like two years), calling them "too dumb and too stupid/a cult", narcissistically declaring he heard from God himself, so they defrocked him. Funny how he said that when in his 1981 book _25 Great Years...25 Anointed Sermons_ he showed kindness to them.
And even then and there, this isn't about doing stuff like losing your temper and smashing inanimate objects. Swaggart committed a willful continued sexual sin of a type that even most unbelieving atheists and anti-theists would have enough sense to resist and it wasn't even a one time thing. Swaggart lived a double life and a lie to the church and others, visited prostitutes for at least *thirty-five years,* lied to his wife and committed adultery, after he was saved and while preaching the Gospel. Not to mention, he wanted the daughters of now ex-prostitute Debra Murphree, and housewife Catherine Kampen, both girls being *only 9 and 12 years old,* to watch (even asked the prostitutes questions you'd expect to see in a chat log from someone caught in a nonce sting), which fortunately never happened. Had that happened, had he so much exposed himself in front of the two girls, he'd be in prison (he'd have been arrested for those chats anyways if he had done this nowadays), would be placed on the sex offender's registry for life (sex offender sentences in Louisiana and the Bible Belt are always life sentences) as a possibly Tier II or Tier III offender, completely excommunicated from all churches and expelled from the Christian community, be permanently banned from and not be allowed to wander nor live within 2000 feet (610 meters) of a church, playground, school, school bus stop, daycare, amusement park, beach, or any other places with children or any elderly or disabled people considered vulnerable to sex offenders, would never be able to get another job (not that he would have had marketable skills since he dropped out and only has an 8th grade education, no college degree and not even a high school diploma), would not be able to vote in elections, without a pardon from the governor of Louisiana at the time, who, in 1987 and 1988, would have been Edwin W. Edwards (Democratic) and Charles Elson "Buddy" Roemer III (Republican), and not allowed into/permanently banned from all future crusades/revivals, campmeetings, church picnics, potluck dinners, Bible studies, harvest festivals, Passion Plays, Christian bookstores, and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter celebrations/services. Part of it could have stemmed from the fact that Swaggart was introduced to porn at a young age (probably in his early teens) but that's still no excuse.
Like I said, it also wasn't the first time he was caught in sin, he was caught twice more, in Indio, California, in October of 1991, only like one week after his crusades, whilst driving down the road Jimmy panicked seeing a policeman as he had pornographic magazines in a car he'd borrowed from a friend, and when trying to stuff them under the seat, swerved onto the wrong side of the road, causing him to get pulled over, and surprise, there was another prostitute in the passenger seat. Then in December of 1995, the same year his ministry published a Rock Of Ages Family Edition KJV Bible, Swaggart was pulled over in a red light district not far from his church with porno magazines in his car...again (his excuses were that he was "lost", and then that he wanted to "check out a radio tower"...which he'd already sold eleven months prior!!), and while he was released because of lack of evidence, it still has tarnished his reputation.
Not to mention, mind you, he was convicted in court of defamation of Marvin Gorman, where he ruined Gorman's career all because of jealousy and was ordered to pay ten million dollars to him (there's a part where Gorman was crying and apologizing, for what he did, but Gorman's crying I believe actually was real, unlike Swaggart's). Read the book _Let Us Prey_ by Hunter Lundy. Jimmy is more of a modern day King Saul than a Man of God, (and he's also got a fake study Bible that's twisting the Gospel to his own views, as an excuse for what he did) like Israel's first king, has failed to realize that _...rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry._ - 1 Samuel 15:23 NIV
I think Lundy summed it up best on page 269 of his book: “Jimmy Swaggart was basically a naïve and ignorant man, an ill-educated bumpkin who had somehow stumbled into greatness - into celebrity - by virtue of God-given talents and an imperfect understanding of human nature. He had instinctively mastered the powers that came from combining spectacular showmanship with faux eloquence to exploit the masses, to move millions to emotional expression to enrich himself and enhance his personal status.” And Lundy is no atheist, he's a Southern Baptist Christian, and he's exposing a false prophet there.
