Yeah, those kinds of songs were somewhat common in the 70s and accepted to a certain degree. The idea of being tied to someone but wanting someone else. Stephen Stills - "Love The One You're With". (If you can't be with the one you love then love the one you're with"), Rupert Holmes - "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" (a couple putting ads in the paper and searching for lovers to have an affair with thinking the other doesn't know, until they meet) There was even a hit song that just blatantly justifies having two lovers. "Mary McGregor - "Torn Between Two Lovers". ("There's been another man that I've needed, and I've loved. But that doesn't mean I love you less...There's just this empty place inside of me that only he can fill" ) What can you say, it was the 70s.
Apparently the world was still wrestling with the issues of the "free love" Woodstock era, trying to define--or redefine--and justify their moral bounds regarding relationships. As a kid at the time, I remember finding "Torn Between Two Lovers" (as well as the song "I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene) to be particularly scandalous! 😳
One of those songs that I can sing from start to finish, never forgetting the lyrics after 45+ years. The lyrics are clear, poetic, and memorable. What did I think when I heard this song in 1977? I thought it was amazing and probably told the story of many people who could relate.
This was fun watching your faces as you realized what they're singing. Gone Too Far is a great song of theirs with the opposite message of Sad To Belong. It was a hit back in the day. I think you'd really love it. Thanks for another fun reaction.
The story of my life. I could always relate to the lyrics. Love the soft Pop. So grateful to have grown up around such beautiful music. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Dan Seals ("England Dan") went on to have a VERY successful Country Music career in the 80s and 90s. Wrote and recorded some great, great songs! He also sang a hit duet with Marie Osmond, "Meet Me In Montana" that was a number 1 hit on the Country charts and his first chart topping hit as a solo artist.
The truth in this song is many decide to marry for the wrong reason whether being conditioning, unaware through blindness or other motives. Time has proven it and continues too!
This has happened to millions of people over the years. Why do think over half of couples have cheated on their spouse or significant other? It happens a lot.
@@wiltchamberlainisthegoat13 Wilt was a beast and so many know zero about him other than his name. He could bench almost 600lbs as a NBA player and beat Jim Brown in a 40 yard dash challenge!
@@UncleCharlie111x2 You’re exactly right, although back in the 60s and 70s, Wilt was one of the most recognizable and famous people in the world. If he wasn’t the greatest of all-time, he was almost for sure the greatest physical specimen the NBA has STILL ever seen.
JAMES TAYLOR & J.D. SOUTHER - " Her Town Too " from 1981 Singers and Song Writers classics and I also guarantee this Incredible song too , you guys cannot miss out on this Epic 1981 classic.
Thank you for this brutally honest reaction to a brutally honest song. When I first heard it I was only a child, so I didn't really understand the implications of the lyrics--but on hearing it as an older adult, my reaction is much like yours! I think the moral of the story here is either (a) be VERY selective when choosing a mate, or (b) when you are in a committed relationship (i.e. marriage), don't EVER let your guard down and allow your eyes or mind to wander! Either mistake can lead to misery--for not just yourself but those around you as well.
This song hit different in the 70’s. It was heartbreaking. He does the right thing and stays faithful and cherishes the fantasy instead of acting on it, perhaps making a mistake. By doing this he proves his real love to his partner, not an idealized fantasy.
He proves his COMMITMENT to his partner, not his love. He spends the WHOLE time FANTASIZING about being with this other woman, even while he is in bed with his partner - WISHING it was the other woman! That is NOT love. That is A LIE that he is living with his partner. He may be smiling at his wife but in his mind his smile is for someone else. By doing this he is PLACING HIS PARTNER IN HIS LIE TOO, as she DOES think that she has a man who loves her, who is happy to be spending his life with her, happy to be making memories with her when in fact this is a false situation he IS MAKING HER BELIEVE - he is LYING to her with his every move, his every word & his every smile! He is NOT being a good noble hero as you are making him out to be. He is being a liar (& even a cheater in his mind.) Instead, in order to ACTUALLY be the good partner, the ACTUAL noble hero, he would be putting the new "sight" out of his mind & DELIBERATELY focusing his mind back on his wife/partner every time his mind (not just his body, but when EVEN HIS MIND - STRAYS.) He would be TELLING himself that he DOES NOT KNOW this new person & she may not be anything great at all if he got to know her - that she may have irritating qualities or a personality (or even a voice) that he can't stand. He would then REMIND himself of the good qualities he has been FORTUNATE enough to have with his partner. He would focus in on WHY he fell in love with his partner, WHY he chose to marry her on the good memories they have ALREADY made together & how many more there COULD be - if he ACTUALLY WENT BACK TO APPRECIATING WHAT HE HAS! If they married because he got her pregnant, then he should be committing to that family & be happy for the children he has in his life because of his partner - who is probably doing a lot to take care of that entire family - so he is still truly fortunate for her! There was a time in the late 70s - early 80s when men used to call women "fickle" just about everyday things. As I am sure you are aware they stopped calling women fickle because it was the MEN who proved the WORST of what fickle could mean - as so many men REFUSED to remember the good things they had with their partner, or what drew him to her in the first place OR the good times they had created together or the memories that he had committed to creating in the future with her - & instead turned to new women with cheating & divorce. Just in case you think I am a bitter divorced woman (a very real situation with MANY women who ACTUALLY BELIEVED their partners when they made their verbal & written marriage VOWS), you would be wrong. Because of this ENTIRE environment of dishonesty in men at the time that was causing so many marriages to explode & families to go through so much anguish FROM the men in the family, I did not want to experience that as an adult woman, nor did I want to have kids (that I DID badly want in a loyal loving family) to go through all the things myself & all the kids around me were experiencing. I WAS very coveted by the boys back then, but I kept my general distance from most of it - because I would not risk going through the adult woman side of the pain that had become (& continues to be) so normal these days with fickle men whose word (& vow) means nothing - in mind or body. Things that you AND ALL men should think about. Lying & disloyalty have far-reaching & enduring effects for many - when actually appreciating the good things in life you have could mean SO much to ALL those you owe it too, & that would even include the one who would consider breaking everybody's world apart.
It's funny - even though I was a kid in the '70s, I didn't even think about this song's lyrics then because there were so many songs kinda like this. Hearing the lyrics again now = 🤯
Not only that, James Seals gave Dan the nickname England Dan. They say it's because during the British invasion, he was going around talking with a English accent.

The message is: "Marry in haste, you may regret it down the line." There were a lot of songs back in the 70s/80s about a person in a relationship longing for someone else they meet. (The Pina Colada song comes to mind. Plus that Ray Parker song "I'm in Love (With Another Woman)" . Not really sure if that's the title.)

This song is absolutely awesome. It’s beautiful…..and relatable. I was single, but in a serious relationship with someone else when I fell in love with someone else with whom I worked. Then I was conflicted. I bet I’m not the only one this has happened to.
I can't tell you how much I look forward to 6ish every day when you guys post. I'm patiently waiting for a song with a killer sax so Amber can freak out in her chair. That gives me goose bumps seeing someone who aren't my kids who love the music I grew up on. I love you guys. ❤❤

That has always been my favorite song by that duo i am glad you reacted to it. I have learned with music to not get so caught up in the lyrics and the message and enjoy the song for the music that way you can enjoy the song more.
Glad you got to this one. You did "I'd Really Like To See You Tonight" right after I suggested it and this was the one I wanted you to follow it up with! 👍🏻 😊
"It's sad to not be able to get away with Cheating when the right one to Cheat with come along"... Guess I was too young when this came out to get the Skullduggery goin on here!!
Dan Seals ( England Dan ) had a successful solo country career. His big hit “ One Friend “ is such a beautiful classic that stands the test of time. You should react to it
The song topped the adult contemporary (then called "easy listening") chart for five consecutive weeks from June 25 to July 23, 1977 It also appeared on the top 40 "rack singles" list on June 7,1977.On December 24, 1977 it ranked #3 on Billboard's end-of-the-year easy listening chart. It is still performed in concerts by the surviving member of the duo, John Ford Coley.
This has happened to millions of people over the years. Why do think over half of couples have cheated on their spouse or significant other? It happens a lot.
You'd be surprised at just how many people fee this way .. and this song gave them some release .. Or gave them the courage to go ahead and get out of a dead end relationship , instead of being miserabe or feeling stuck .
Yes, check out "Nights Are Forever Without You", "We'll Never. Have To Say Goodbye Again", "Love Is The Answer", "Gone Too Far", etc. They epitomized 1970's mellow rock.
I loved this song, and I wasn't at dating age yet, so I just love the rhythm or song. And this happens to people all the time, they fall in love with someone when they are with someone else.
As the song says "It's sad to belong" to someone else when the right one comes along. Most everyone has been with someone for a time, whether that's 'going steady' or married and meet someone else that intrigues you. Don't get me wrong, it could be that the sadness comes in different forms. You may always wonder if you do nothing it could be better... You may take the plunge and tear apart something you have AND hurt someone you obviously already love OR regret this new thing seeing that you were better off before breaking off what you had. By my way of thinking, it truly is sad when something that looks better comes along. The trick is to listen to the song 'Love the One You're With'... 😏😆
These guys made it to Sunday Break 2 in Sept. 1976. It was on the Steiner Ranch outside of Austin Texas. The other bands were Firefall, Steve Miller, Chicago, The Band and Fleetwood Mac. Great times and great music! My girlfriend and I hitch hiked from Killeen to see them. We were 16. You could do that back then.
I love England Dan & John Ford Coley! England Dan is Dan Seals, brother of Jim Seals of Seals & Crofts fame. And they weren't from England, they were from Texas. After his pop/rock career he did very nicely as a country singer. Dan passed away in 2009, at the age of 61, from cancer.
After this duo went their separate ways, England Dan had a successful solo career using his given name, which was Dan Seals (he is the brother of James Seals, who is half of the Seals and Crofts duo). You should react to his song "Bop" or his duo with Marie Osmond, "Meet Me in Montana."
Great Reaction. I always loved this song but you both had me busting out laughing. He was so miserable that he wished he could go back to the day he was born… cracked me up 😂😂😂
If he could go back in time, from the day he was born, he'd rearrange his life differently. Indeed, sad to belong to someone else when the right one comes along.
Your faces, LOL!! But it can be true because sometimes you're just with someone so you're not alone and then dang it, you meet the ONE. I'd rather be alone instead of with the wrong one any day, lol.
I really enjoyed how you both reacted to the lyrics of this song. A song that brings relationship wisdom in its lyrics is Jimmy Soul's "If You Wanna Be Happy." It's from the early 60s and the lyrics will no doubt spark riveting conversation between you two!
Just a note...... "England Dan" is Dan Seals, who is the Brother of Jim Seals of Seals and Crofts. Dan had a great Country Music solo career. He was one of my favorite Country acts. You should react to his hits "My Old Yellow Car" and "Everything That Glitters Is Not Gold". They're not Too Country and crossed over onto Adult Contemporary Charts as well.
My favorite song by them! Yeah, it's an eyebrow raiser, but I've lived it. Another good one along the same lines is Dan Seals solo "You Still Move Me."
"We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again" is a beautiful song by them. This song didn't didn't affect you like that in the 70's, I guess because us teens were "dating" at that time.
Its a good idea for people to pay closer attention to a songs lyrics. A friend met a man who had just got happily married. He asked the man what his wedding song/dance was. He told my friend both he and her were huge fans of Engelbert Humperdinck. Their wedding song was "Please Release Me Let Me Go....for I dont love you anymore"! True story.
I had a friend who had Meatloaf’s Two outta Three Ain’t bad for their wedding song. I want you, I need you but I’m never going to love you. Real romantic. 🤦♀️ They divorced long ago.
@@debrawilson9791 That just sounds absolutely crazy that that song would be played at their wedding. But this song is relatable. It has happened to millions of people over the years. Why do think over half of couples have cheated on their spouse or significant other? It happens a lot.
I agree with you guys that it's sad and beautiful at the same time. I've always loved this song but we have to be careful when we sing it around our mate. lol
Jay/Amber got shocked by soft rock ! 😂 Checkout "Nights Are Forever Without You" or "Gone Too Far" next. How about a new band? React to The Babys "Every time I Think Of You" or "Isn't It Time". Thanks. 😎
We can't always control our feelings but always have control our over our choices even though he's fallen in love with someone else he chooses to stay will the person he promised to for the rest of his life this why I love this song. It has a moral,❤️
Oh my. I love them and this song. I was so young when I heard the song I didn't even know quite what they were talking about but I just loved the song.😅
I think many people can relate to this song. It's a tough position to be in and if you were to act on those feelings someone will be hurt. It's kind of sad but the feelings expressed are very relatable to many people. Another great tune by them is "Love Is The Answer"
I'm a glad I'm gonna go out with you. Love and can't get enough of it. I don't. I don't. I'll choose not to be a hater, but I'm just gonna break it down. Lazy all right brother? I just type my favorite just not
Sort of gives me the broken back mountain or broken Brack ridge. Or whatever that might be was sort of guess by that Bob. I don't like that, I'm not that why I'm not trying to gender nothing. Only thing I do is a sexy sexy female
I agree, the lyrics are different, but back in the 70’s it didn’t seem so weird 🤷♀️ You should check out a song called “Torn Between Two Lovers” by Mary MacGregor from the 70’s 😉. ❤️✌🏻🎶
Not at all related to this reaction, but I'd love to see you two react to the 70s comedy starring Barbara Streisand called "What's Up Doc?" I guarantee you'll be rolling with laughter!!

Check out "You Can Have Her" by the great Roy Hamilton. This time the shoe is on the other foot. Musically, a nice song. As you say, good soft rock. Thanks. Nice reaction.

The grass is always greener on the other side until you step over the line and see it's green because that yard was tended, or you find out it's greener because of sewage. Most ppl have regrets at least once in their life or feel drained because M is requires time and care to keep it beautiful.
my favourite of theirs is "i'd really love to see you tonight". "nights are forever" is also good!

Yes, check out "Nights Are Forever Without You", "We'll Never. Have To Say Goodbye Again", "Love Is The Answer", "Gone Too Far", etc. They epitomized 1970's mellow rock.
You deserve it, it gives us older folks a chance to reminisce and younger folks a chance to be exposed to joyous songs from the past.
Nights are Forever is their best work and the vocal mix is underrated ..it's great work
I loved this song, and I wasn't at dating age yet, so I just love the rhythm or song. And this happens to people all the time, they fall in love with someone when they are with someone else.
England Dan is Dan Seals, brother of Jimmy Seals from Seals and Crofts. Dan also had a solo career in Country music in the 1980s.
...and a duo country career with Marie Osmond 🙂
Even when I first heard this back in the 70's I was like, "that is so depressing"!
A must review by them is nights are forever without you 🙋🙋🙋
These guys made it to Sunday Break 2 in Sept.
Dan Seals. his solo work isd amazing too. meet me in montana, One friend, Everything that glitters...all amazing.
They have others that you'd like the lyrics a little more. "Nights are forever." "Just tell me you love me."
"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" is the only song I know from them, but it was a good one.
You must do Nights Are Forever next.
After this duo went their separate ways, England Dan had a successful solo career using his given name, which was Dan Seals (he is the brother of James Seals, who is half of the Seals and Crofts duo). You should react to his song "Bop" or his duo with Marie Osmond, "Meet Me in Montana."
Meet Me in Montana is the best country duet ever, in my opinion! Perfect harmonies!!
Great Reaction. I always loved this song but you both had me busting out laughing. He was so miserable that he wished he could go back to the day he was born… cracked me up 😂😂😂
Love Is The Answer
This song has such an early Seventies sound and meaning. They were some interesting times. ✌️
The 70s always had good music, even if it made you think. I was in highschool when this came out. ♥️✝️🙏✌️😎
Another great song that I remember as a kid😊
That's even worse than using "Every Breath You Take," which is a stalker song. lol
lol

Love you guys reaction....it is a sad lyrically, YES! But, a younger person can totally relate to this!!
Oh my. I love them and this song. I was so young when I heard the song I didn't even know quite what they were talking about but I just loved the song.😅
I got to see them in concert here where I live when they had all these songs popular at the time. They were awesome.
I was anticipating y'alls faces when y'all figured out what they were saying!!😂😂
Awesome duo has some good songs
Such beautiful music!!! Highly recommend Dan Seals duet with Marie Osmond, Meet Me In Montana! This song is gorgeous!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful song. REAL downer, though. 😂
Next up for them, Love Is the Answer. Beautiful AND uplifting! 😍
About who I'm for loves. That's I think that's wonderful for you and I don't. I don't put no hate on it I just don't love it
Old school music is the best ,
Great song with shocking twist.
WORE OUT their album: Dowdy Ferry Road, back in the day!! LOVE THEM!! THANKS for reacting to them, You-Guys!! HUGS!!
"England Dan" also known as Dan Seals. Later went back to his country music roots, Taken from us to young. Try "everything that glitters is not gold"
We’ll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again
I agree, the lyrics are different, but back in the 70’s it didn’t seem so weird 🤷♀️
You should check out a song called “Torn Between Two Lovers” by Mary MacGregor from the 70’s 😉. ❤️✌🏻🎶
Not at all related to this reaction, but I'd love to see you two react to the 70s comedy starring Barbara Streisand called "What's Up Doc?" I guarantee you'll be rolling with laughter!!
Absolutely love this song. I would consider it a late 50th Birthday gift. Turn that 2 days ago.
Hey, you’re still young! I turned 59 back in August. I wish I was still young like you!
@@wiltchamberlainisthegoat13 Yeah I'm still young. Enjoying 50.
i highly recommend getting their greatest hits. not a bad one in the bunch.
Hang in there, Jay. Oh I recall this one now. Nice tune. How's that for an uplifting song subject? Right on, Amber! OMG, the look on your face. Yes, to go how far back?? Love it. Check out "You Can Have Her" by the great Roy Hamilton. This time the shoe is on the other foot. Musically, a nice song. As you say, good soft rock. Thanks. Nice reaction.
I loved the harmonies and the music but Like you the lyrics were like What!
Must have my Suggestions, sorry. Have to become patron to find out.
Great reaction. Loved this song in the 70s. Requesting more Karen carpenter. It’s been awhile. Would love this masquerade or solitaire.
This has to be the most beautiful song about wanting to cheat on your loved one.
LOL! I love that reaction, so funny.
"Nights Are Forever" will rip out your guts ... lol. You should do that one next.
Your reactions are perfect.
The look on your faces>Priceless! Almost as good as when ya did the "Escape" The Pina Colada song "Nights Are Forever" will get ya back on track with England Dan n John Ford Coley.
The grass is always greener on the other side until you step over the line and see it's green because that yard was tended, or you find out it's greener because of sewage. Most ppl have regrets at least once in their life or feel drained because M is requires time and care to keep it beautiful.
