I was flying in Civil Air Patrol in the late 90's when we got a GPS unit just like that one in one of the corporate 182's. I remember thinking "man, how much better can technology get?" It replaced an old Loran unit and it felt like going from a Model T to a Ferrari.
@@FlyingwithRich I see, You mean that the demand for pilots might get lower and lower , and one of the facts could be automatization. Thank you for sharing your concern. GOD bless 🙏
Rich, I don't know if I've ever seen a better salesman than you. Upselling a plane based on ancient avionics. The only thing that I can think of that you missed is that you didn't call them valuable antiques. LMAO. Love your videos - keep 'em coming & stay safe. 😂
These are the best videos ever for flight sim users. I fly X-plane 12 and try to duplicate real world flying. The power settings are especially useful in doing that. Thanks for the time and effort put into the videos. The videographer is great at showing the instruments like airspeed , manifold pressure, mixture and rpm. A great help. The auto pilot works just like that in X-plane.12 in the Beach Baron.
Man, when I started flying, the KLN-94 was state of the art. I remember the Millennium edition Cessnas all had that and the KMD-550 MFD. Coming from a 1978 172 into an ME was like getting into an Airbus A320! Hard to believe Garmin changed the whole avionics game in the last 20 years!
The Ram engine conversion makes a difference because I know a owner of a Cessna 340 that had it done and he said it made a lot more power to climb to higher Altitudes
Yeah, That Was Great! I've Been Watching A Few, So I Subscribed. A Piece Of Glass Is Nice If You Lose Vacuum But You Just Defined GA The Way Old Men Remember It! Thank You.
Nice! Keeping it real instead of ripping all the beautyful gauges out of the instrument board for two G1000 screens. That´s not how a real Cessna Chancellor should look like!
@@FlyingwithRich definitely not a half million dollar 414 from 1978 with ancient avionics and engines with 50 hours in 6 years. nice plane though, would love to fly one.
@@h2oski1200 435 seems pretty reasonable for a twin with the ram conv. Interior and panel can be upgraded for less than what a new g58 is and the 414 can do everything better. Basic iran on the engines should be fine after boro. I'd still buy an aerostar though. Not always a need for that much empty cabin space
The only thing I would suggest is maybe give some more details about the actual plane. Useful load, actual cruise speed, range, estimated cost for some avionic upgrades if needed, etc.. Really like your videos. Keep it up.
There is something always to be said about not having a single point of failure. New glass panels are excellent when they work, when they fail you wish you had your steam gauges back. That being said, I've always been comfortable with a perfect mix of both in GA. Fly the plane. Really nice aircraft.
Speaking of monkey field. Lol You ever go to that restaurant on the north side of the runway, had a french farm house look with a WWI aviation theme? Is it still there? Always loved going there and seeing those scale biplanes. Haven't been there in 20 years or more. Been in Vegas for the last 12. I did a little flying in and out of there and Gillespie in El Cajon. That's been over 30 years.
What makes your channel fun to watch is the variety of airplanes you fly. You know Jerry Wagner from Air Wagner he flies a 414 out of Auburn just curious. See you on the next one.
Reminds me of the one where an elderly gentleman en route to a public speech crashed into a house that engine sound is very distinct and it's kinda haunting to me. Because people were criticizing the man because he seemed rude when filing his flight plan but it was just because he couldn't hear well. It was sad to watch anyway sorry for the downer but enjoy watching you fly there sir. Be safe out there brother.
Yea I had a little bit of a learning curve, learned on steam gauges, instrument rating on glass and never went back. BFR time I decide to get retract experience in a old Mooney, flying VFR was fine, under the hood…… not so good…..but a good lesson that you need to be proficient in the equipment your flying……
i love the videos but i just gotta know, what do you normally have the gopros equipped to? i see in some videos it looks like a housing wrapping around most of the gopro, is it to help the battery or something? anyways loved this video as well as all the others!
Great job all around, and good message with equipment differences. KX/KLN vs G1000/etc is somewhat analogous to: you should speak both iOS and Windows/Android. Just be open to adaptability.
Hello Rich, I love the content. I think the Cessna 414A and 421 are real gems. Can you tell me if it's big enough for tall people? I'm 6'4" and 240 pounds. Thanks
Really tough to say - I’ve seen some big guys comfortable and smaller guys uncomfortable. I think once you are seated likely fine but will not be super easy getting seated. Hope that helps!
It’s an acquired skill but as you learn to fly and talk on the radio more you get acclimated to what’s being said on the radio and recognizing your call sign and instructions.

I know the feeling. Amazing how far it’s come - a little scary too.
@@FlyingwithRich if it's not too much to ask, why scary, in what sense, doesn't it supposed to be easier and safer? Great video, thanks!!!
Scary to me because need for pilots is clearly in question now. Hopefully not in my lifetime!

Haha - still live the old avionics and panels! A real pleasure to fly the piston twins!
Hey, that was brand new a few years after I learned to fly, that makes me a 'valuable antique' too?? LOL 🙂 --gary
Didn't seem like an upsell to me, seemed like insecurity and subsequent fixation.

Love that panel. Wouldn’t change a thing, well perhaps a better engine monitor.

Really digging the new intro on the videos recently. Keep up the good work! Love all the work you and the team put into these videos.
Much appreciated!

I better not stop by, otherwise I might buy it! A perfect SoCal to Cabo plane. I wish a seasoned pilot like myself could rent planes like these! Lou B
I’m flying the C414 in MSFS. Love this plane.
Pleasure to fly for sure!
Looking very good..Thank you for sharing..
Looking good with the auto pilot being on and having the older avionics in older aircraft is still good!!
Agree. Very solid avionics.
Nice
This is my next airplane. Not a great Cessna fan,(not including the 172) but the 414 is so elegant to me and very affordable! Can’t wait!
Great choice! Let us know if you have any questions!
It's fun get off ground for a while, but it's always fun to hear those tires chup on the runwa
Thanks Rich, Nice looking bird
Thanks you.
I like the old school panel all day

Yes they do.
insanity. can't wait for the aviation market to get back to reality.

I know Caravan operators were concerned with reliability on G1000 when it first came out on Caravans. Reality was better reliability.
Ah Rich, You're making me hungry for Casa Machado. I always eat there when I have a chance. Their food is the best.
Excellent food - love the pickled carrots/onions appetizers!

The short rounded nose on many 401s is so much better looking than the long, pointy 421 noses.

We all know that older avionics are sexier than the Glass panels
I had the understanding that older planes had to be updated with newer avionics by 2024? That's why so many older planes are for sale?😮

Seems like would be difficult to go from G1000 to conventional instruments and avionics and maybe really no reason to as airplanes get upgraded.

Are you sure you’re not confusing RPM and Manifold Pressure? This aircraft has 2 twin needle gauges?

Yes a while back. Love to get one on the channel - can’t call it a real aircraft review channel until I review a PC-12!
