I was contemplating what to make for lunch and your video popped up on my feed...just in time! ;) The consistency was what we expected from an electric pressure cooker, so if people are looking for stovetop consistency, know there will be a difference, but it came out perfect for us! The only issue was the salt amount in the recipe was a tad bit too much for us, it came out too salty for us to eat, but other than that, followed the recipe to a T and it was great! :) Definitely will be added to my weekend lunch rotation!

Thank you for the recipe, Poonam. The cooking time was perfect. However, With 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt it came out salty. Did you really mean 1.5 tea spoon of salt?

    1. I cooked up another batch with 1/2 tsp of salt and the salt was ok. May be need a bit more. 2. Also, the recipe asks for 1 TBSP of eno. I see other recipes asking for 1 TSP of eno. It seems, I am getting flavors of eno and resulting in not that authentic taste I am looking for. 3. The recipe write up on your website says leave khamn in the IP for 10 min after steaming and releasing steam after steaming for 15min. In the video, you seem to take it out. When I took it out after 15min to cool at room temperature, khaman did not seem to be fully cooked this time. Can you please let me know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks!

I started to use almost now everything in insta post. Thanks for this video. I wondered that for how many minutes we have to put on steam mode? That you didn't mentioned in this video. That part is little confusing

It wasn't as fluffy as it does in cooker. Few places it was plain. Usually we leave it in cooker so it stays puff. Releasing steam may not be a problem but we shouldn't open lid as soon as air is let out. I will try that next time but let me known ur thoughts

It just dint work for me..also the idea of keeping vent sealed with steam mode is not a very favorable option..i will look for other videos on making dhoklas..u should have also shown how it came out after cutting it.!

Hi Poonam. I love all your videos. I was wondering, do you feel like ever since you bought an Instant Pot, thats all you have been using to cook with? I feel like I have restricted my cooking to only things that I can make with the Instant Pot. I feel like I am missing out on a lot of great things just because I refuse to cook any other way. Do you feel like the quality of your cooking differs if you make something in the Instant Pot vs. on the stove/oven/other devices. Thanks and looking forward to trying this! PS: Please do a special for Eid because its coming up this month. Thanks:)

I do use my instant pot a lot but I still use conventional stove top cooking for certain things. I really don't think the quality of my cooking differs from the Instant Pot and stove top. We will keep in mind to do an Eid special. Thanks for tuning in!

I don’t have a steam button in max model so what’s an alternative option for steaming dhokla n idli?

These instructions don't work with Gits Khaman Dhokla, as the website instructions claim. When sealing the vent, and using "Steam", it turns out soggy and half cooked. I saw another website that instructed users to keep the vent open during the steam process. This sounds right, but I'll have to test it.

I’ve had a go at making this. They came out flat/dense rather than fluffy. Taste wise it’s fine but the texture is wrong. I can’t work out what I’ve done wrong 🤔

I also got lot of red spots in the second batch. Looks like 1tbsp of eno is reacting with turmeric. 1tbsp of eno is making the batter very alkaline. I will try again with 1tsp of eno, which is 1/3r of the recipe asks for to see if rises fine without giving any red spots.

Oh my goodness this just didn’t work out for me. I don’t know what I did wrong?! I used a ready made gits packet rather than mixing up the lot myself. The only thing I didn’t do was add ENO, because I didn’t think it was necessary for ready made packets. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing we can think of is that maybe the ready made packets might require different timings?

Can I use my dhokla stand directly in Insta pot, instead of its ring and pan as shown in your video? Thanks

Eno= bicarbonate of soda, found in the baking aisle

  • @D__b23

You did not showed us how it looked after cutting also 15 mins is too long it will make it hard in instant pot and eno doesn’t taste good my advise whoever trying this out is add baking soda and baking powder both and only do sauté mode on with the seal open if that makes sense and just eye ball it this recipe can be very tricky i am trying since so many year but still cannot make it like our moms and grandmas looks simple but its not also do not put turmeric as u can see in her video it has weird red spots which doesn’t look appealing to eat .

    • @911rk
      @911rk 5 років тому

Yes, I got weired red spots as well, in my second batch, not the first one though. Wasn't sure what happend second time. Didn't realize that turneric can do that.

the recipe online says 10 mins NPR, but the video says QR. which is better?

We sometimes edit the recipe after recording the video if we feel like something we did on camera could have been done better. I suggest always following the recipe
