Organic vs. Non-Organic Foods: Food Scientist Debunks Common Myths
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- One of the biggest myths around organic farming is that they don’t use pesticides, but food scientist Erin the “Food Science Babe” shares that it’s not true. Organic farmers use large amounts of natural pesticides, and they can be worse for the environment. Plus, is there a meaningful difference in pesticide residue between conventional and organic produce?

The only organic foods you call it organic if you plant them with your own hands and produce them from your farm. Not the food or anything from the market.
Growing up my family planted plants around the house and in the forest between the big trees where the soil so rich, we never ever use any pesticide.Sometimes we found little bugs in our greens but we washed couple times and inspected it before we cook :-)
People would rather eat poison since Hollywood has convinced us that bugs are gross and evil.
The ignorance in the comments is astonishing
Which comments? The pro-organics or the sceptics of the organic Hype?
@@dalebaker3799 Probably the organic pushers. If you're not growing it yourself, there's almost no difference. Organic is a buzz word. Just eat as healthy as you can and you'll be fine
It’s also funny how a lot of people don’t do research on what GMO actually is and how organic is just a scam. People should do research on these topics before commenting. A lot of vegetables you see every day, are actually GMO even if they say organic. Hate to break it to you but look it up
ever heard of picking your poison?
I didn't realize that. I'm avoiding glyphosate. Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm going to follow the International Agency for Research on Cancer's advice.
I actually changed my mind and started eating cereal and porridge again.
it's the EWG that published that paper. Not sure if Cancer research centers actually published one but if they do, they'd also show their parameters. They usually test them on rodents in high dosages over an extended period of time. basically they're either drowning them in glyphosate or gave the rats an exclusive glyphosate diet which is way out of proportion
You should avoid glyphosate, it's linked to a lot of imbalance in the body. Good on you! If you read through the medical journals that are peer reviewed on the subject, it's all pointing to it being a bad thing for anything living.
Brought to you by the corporate food industry.
100%, 😂 but something she said is true. Commercial organic farming is not as people want to believe it is. Grow your won food or make sure you buy from the right framer.
Exactly
Has the Doctors become a single host show?
When I go grocery shopping, I double check all of the stuff in my cart to make sure nothing is organic so I'm not getting ripped off.
Organic means it hasn't been sprayed with glyphosate (also known as round up). This chemical is a Class 2A carcinogen and is a huge contributor to our cancer epidemic Eating organic does matter because you are significantly decreasing your consumption of this poison.
"Organic" foods comes from the same fields, don't let them fool you.
Look it up. You are buying the same stuff with a empty promise attached.
R.I.P
@@chiaraboccelli4189 Nobody gets out alive. Just because someone puts a "organic" sticker on a package makes zero difference. It all comes from the same fields.
Lol your uneducated then
Who does she work or do "research" for?
Yeah allergies are sky high each generation is having more and more auto immune issues. People are so sick. Gluten allergies. Every one I know who drinks beer regularly feels sick all the time. Couldn't be because wheat is the most heavily food sprayed. Wonder how much big food paid this person.
She didn’t say pesticides aren’t harmful, just that the residue left by them isn’t at high enough levels to cause harm. If wheat gets sprayed more often, then the residue levels may be higher and potentially cause harm, but other foods wouldn’t have that issue. So, maybe just avoid wheat?
She needs to debate one of the popular names advocating organic as a lessor evil
she would lose.
I love eating organic food and eating farm food
Cold pressed and all but I also like buying local more
I shop at new seasons
What about DDT in grains and oats? Should I be concern and buy organic?
oats are one of the highest testing foods for glyphosate. absolutely buy
organic always
Wtf is an "organic food"??? All foods are organic by definition😂 If its alive or was once alive, which ALL plants are, then it's organic. The term is a meaningless marketing ploy by the same companies that sells the "Non organic" shit.

@@kearstynfox1354 No, thats not what organic means.
Organic foods do not use estrogen-based pesticides designed to disturb the hormonal function of pests. These estrogens end up in the body and can cause hormonal disruptions there, including acne, nervous system issues, cancers, and addictions. It’s a very basic idea once you grasp it.
high pesticide poison vs low pesticide poison i wonder which is safer please mommy let it be known
@@starc.The frequency of use is important but so is the potency. Synthetic pesticides may be sprayed less often but since they are stronger, the harm may be equivalent, if not more pronounced than non synthetic pesticides.
@@mental_sentinel equivalent? Not even close, organic food eaters have 25% lower cancer risk
@@starc. Genuine question, how do we know that’s not because of all the other healthy choices they make? Anyone eating organic is likely prone to have a healthy lifestyle over all.
@@mental_sentinel wouldn't be that many they'd be balanced out by other negatives. Organic is bought by a certain group more middle class type who aren't always being fit or in physically active environments so that question is as much a hit as miss. Non organic eaters can make more healthy choices because theres this financial mentality out there especially for guys of working out for fitness on a budget, same reason they use protein powders, why buy more expensive when theres a cheaper option? I used to think that until learning that not only is there less pesticide but more nutrition in organic so maybe its 20% more expensive but it has 20% more vitamin C in a more efficient package with 20% less pesticide so really you're not overpaying at all. Theres really not that many health choices one can make when most have to work indoors all day anyway we all live the same type of lifestyle more or less. Another answer would be that the skyrocketting sudden rise of cancers over the last century is attributed to something and the pesticides are an easy answer along with the microplastics and other similar nano contaminants
Wow she's lying terribly
Prove it. She know basic science, you do not.
if you have such genius intellect that you cannot tell when someone is lying showing proof wont work. You do not even know what science is let alone basic science and are asking to be spoon fed when you will reject that information anyway. Now I gave you everything and it will never be enough for the @@queequod2
@@starc. It’s not about “high” or “low” pesticides. It’s about how much pesticide residue gets on our foods. She claimed it was parts per billion, do you disagree or have evidence to support otherwise?
It’s funny when I see a sign saying organic corn. Almost every single corn in the US and Canada has been genetically modified.
BINGO!
So 450 servings of strawberry daily? How about a salad daily? Lettuce, kale, tomatoes, celery, ... if every ingredient is as the strawberry, we are all in trouble!
someone intelligent enough as to get on TV and to not know how organic is grown is now telling us high pesticide food is okay because our short term data says so but forget that we have no long term data. Nice try biosoldier.
Nonsense, she is paid to lie.
Underrated comment for sure😂

GMO"S are foods with added or removed genes. In nature People, Animals and Plants genes are added and lost naturally through breeding and cross breeding. It may be unnatural but unnatural doesn't inorganic.

And organic on the package only means it was grown with organic fertilizer. Which usually means manure 💩 but it can mean dead animals or decay plant martial. It doesn't mean no pesticides.
Many countries dont have due diligence when it comes to use of pesticides. In the end we have to be responsible for our own food choices.
It didn't address the GMO issue and pest resistant seeds. There's pesticide inside the seed already!!!!

@@kearstynfox1354 I know what organic means. It’s about people having an irrational fear of the scientific advancements that have made it possible for there be more food than humanity needs. There’s this other somewhat modern convention called a kitchen faucet. You’re supposed to wash the food before you eat it. It’s easier to wash off the chemicals than the natural toxic molds etc… that get on the food without the chemical treatments.

The thing is 450 strawberries is not that much and actually achieveable if you juice...compared to ODing on spinach oxalates which requires lbs and you'd most likely be full before hitting a dangerous level
She said 453 SERVINGS per day. Not 450 strawberries.
@@ram0166 What is serving size per day for strawberries? No one knows. I eat about 10 to 15 strawberry per day. So in a short amount of time I will catch that amount fast.

Immediately lost all credibility when she said a lot of people think organic means they can't use pesticides. I've spoken with people on organic food for years now and I've never come across one single person who thinks organic means no pesticides.
If I told you I’ve spoken with many people who believe this, would it discredit what you’ve said? No lol of course not but it does expose our anecdotal bias.
