I've heard many versions of this song since the original, and all of them try to impress us with their singing. But Justin Johnson, with only a guitar has grasped the essence of the song, the thing that made it truly unique. Best version I've ever heard.
Msybe he is not about the fame and more about doing what he wants while making a decent living. I only just found him and I think this may be the new way to not be totally chewed on and spat our by the entertainment industry. When people talk of stardom and fame, I think of the many great artists who were done no favors by it. He wants to share his music, he puts out so much raw acoustic stuff it is like he is part of your household. He even has great guitar lessons I actually started finger picking, he has inspired me like no other guitarist ever has and it is bc of the clise videos where it is like you are sitting across from him watching his hands move. I think stardom is way overrated.
This dude is simply incredible! I love everything he plays from funk to slide and everything in between! He has an incredible gift to totally control his instrument while making it perform at its absolute best. His instrument is an extension of himself and that is rare to see even in some of the most famous guitarists. He has taught me grace while playing my guitar and that was no easy task. I am drooling at his loft of guitars and I wonder what it would be like to play them. Thank you, Justin Johnson, for making the world of music a better place! You inspire me.
One of my biggest dreams was to learn how to play a bass... I had one for about 3 yrs but didn't have anybody to teach me... ended up giving it away, hearing this makes me want to cry!
I don't think hedrix could keep up with him. If we're being honest here. . .. But maybe .. Hendrix may have heard his styles, instantly learned them, and one upped him lol. Stevie, no way.
When you say most talented...I think or folks like Roy Buchanan who didn't use pedals to make music. He used his fingers and his guitar. Danny Gatton is a great. This fella is talented but not on the same level.
Fashion has nothing to do with abilities to make that guitar scream. Maybe total performance of the show but honestly I'm here for the music not the pants he's wearing.
@@michaelbyrd5573 I'd like to stop you. First off both of the guitarists you mentioned are talented, I'll give you that. Neither one of them were known for playing without effects though and they each used them. They were each pretty slow pickers too. Using many of the same scales and revolving around the same music that J.J. likes too.. He plays mostly on acoustic though with no effects whatsoever so I don't get your mention of not using pedals. Just because he used delay in this song? .. Lol Roy's the sound of telecasters... They were each electric guitarist and they each used effects from their Amos that can clearly be heard in every song. Whether they were playing with heavy reverb, high gain (most common for Roy), roy also adopted using a pedal for added delay while on stage. Whenever you pick up an electric, you're playing with effect. Telecaster have a switch to mix up the pick ups just like almost every other electric guitar and their amps had many effects. You hinted at playing a guitar. Clearly you don't though.. Neither one of those musicians have ever impressed me though and I find both of their voices annoying tbh... Maybe if they wouldn't have sang. Roy's a pretty nasty guitarist though. I'll give ya that. My dad use to listen to Danny Gatton, I honestly can't name one song by him I like. I never in my life heard anyone refer to him as a great. Lol you have a pretty odd opinion there ... Whether you want to admit it or not (clearly you won't) Justin's and incredibly talented musician. He could teach both Roy and Danny some licks. I sincerely doubt either one of them could show him a single thing he hasn't already mastered better than them on the neck of a guitar. You're in denial or ignorant in you think otherwise.
Now that was different. I just started listening to you. I can already tell I'm going to be a loyal fan. I could listen to you all day long. Excellent !
I think it's safe to say that when you watch Justin on this tune with his technique and use of the various pedals including the sampling looper, that he is a man in control of his environment. This one is masterful... Remember... the strings on a bass are like the top 4 strings on a guitar.
Man Justin, even on bass yer stuff is quite a TEMPTATION. I'm gonna have ta break out my Best of the Temptations c d just to hear the rest of the song now! Nice job on this one, takes me back to the days in high school.
Yeaha i grew up in michigan motown alice cooper the whole nine yards kid rock ted nugent all of the best i must say you put youre own style on everthing its so rockin
Most people follow the rules, and are successful, that's fine, but some people break the rules & achieve sub conscious greatness, JJ is one of those!!!
i once wrote in the three string shovel guitar video “you got me stompin’ my feet......AND you did it again!!!! ....you made me stomp my feet on this awesome track!!!
You make it look so easy and make it sound awesome. In my honest opinion (for what its worth) better than the original. Keep up the good work man... you rock!!
Magnifique , Justin , le talent fait oublier tous ce Monde unitile autour de toi ..!! Merci Justin pour cette belle leçon Musicale . Profonde et grande admiration de ton savoir Musical . Salut Hubert Etienne

I cast this on to my buddies big screen during the middle of a party. Within seconds people shut up and watched mesmerized. 0_o
He is simply one of the greatest musical talents of our generation and I hope he reaches the major stardom he so richly deserves!

This makes me want to go to New York in the 70's. You're a wizard
I need to hear more of that funky Bass playing.
I was knocked out when this song came out, and now again. It's cool that younger people are digging the same tunes I did when I was young!
Buenas tardes. Memorable canción. Espectacular Justin.
We love gifted individuals...
THE PURE EXCELLENT TALENT KEEPS POURING OUT OF JUSTIN. OUTSTANDING WORK !
One of my biggest dreams was to learn how to play a bass... I had one for about 3 yrs but didn't have anybody to teach me... ended up giving it away, hearing this makes me want to cry!
Fantastic jam! Also: Am I the only one who thinks his fashion sense is just as awesome as his playing?
No
A very unique dude in many ways, definitely.
Yeah, only you.
Very SRV-ish. And killer boots as always.
you not one )
Best Bass jam I've ever heard, and I'm in my 70's. If you're foot is moving while listening to this, you may be dead
:-)
This is the best version of this song i ever heard! Goddammit.
Music is a person's feelings to sound.
Is this the coolest, most talented guitarist of today? Dress code Jimi Hendrix meets Tanzanian Kitenge with a dash of country/western - super cool.
I don't think hedrix could keep up with him. If we're being honest here. . .. But maybe .. Hendrix may have heard his styles, instantly learned them, and one upped him lol. Stevie, no way.
I’m an old fudy dudy what I’m going to say I’m just being??? I need 2 pair of those pants 1 to burn the other to bury. Ha Ha Ha !!! I’m not serious.

If played loud enough, this cures ED... and almost everything else.
My favorite song!!
Now that was different. I just started listening to you. I can already tell I'm going to be a loyal fan. I could listen to you all day long. Excellent !
