i have some suggestions for your defece plan: everything that is level with your current base (top lake area, where your anky i, obviosly your base and the small part where it goes down into the cave) as well as the cave entrance where your boat is should be well defended. a mixture between plant x (mainly set on players and dinos) and auto turrets (mainly set on only players) is recommned. for your yurrent base specifically i suggest to not wall off the natural pillar spaces, but to block them for unfriendly players with plant x and now and then a autoturret. the lake and where your anky is are (i suggest) mostly for storing dinos in non - war times and dont have to be that well defended. be aware that players and exspecially dinos can jump in your base from up top. pillars are great for specifically that problem. they do not obstruct any spawns, but can easily block an t-rexes path. almost for got to say: you should definitely get another player to test the damage in the cave. it might be 6 times the damage compared to non cave structures.

I believe you could lead an argy/pterodon army through that cave you have blocked off and surprise attack people with the complex cave system, if you decide to have an army

a way he could make more defence for his base would be to tame low level dinos naming them them which part of your base so when some one attacks that part and kills that dino you know where and maybe how is attacking

The reason the rocks and plants melt is to reduce lag it is why you can swing a bronto tail with almost no lag
