This is one of the first interviews I have seen with Tatiana and it's kinda weird because she looks like Beth (or Sarah) but she talks like Cosima and then when I think of the fact that she's also the person who plays Alison... And I completely forgot Helena, Tony and Rachel! I just can't get my head around it and I love it so much.
Both Tatiana and Cosima are very expressive with their body language, and seem to embrace the more dorky aspects of their personalities. It’s brilliant and so relatable!
Finally an actress who isn't English doing a brilliant English accent as Sarah! Every person mainly American's I've heard do an English accent make us sound so posh she doesn't its pretty stop on! xx
I'm from England and have lived here the entirety of my life and let me tell you that her British accent is pretty spot on. It have a London twang and it think it suits Sara prodigiously well, as for Rachel's more "posh" accent, Titiana does an incredible job.
Shes a genious. Every character is believeable, not just a wig. I cant believe she didnt get an emmy... people win playing 1 character.. she plays 12... best actress ever
This is how you build a series. Every actor is perfectly casted, the writing is always a 10/10, world building is fantastic, mild input and directional feedback from fans, a lovely lead actor and a equally talented supporting cast with fun guest stars, oh and they also get 95% of all their scientific facts right. This series will looked back upon by major film critics, analyst and cult fan followers for a very long time. It’s kind of cool to have been a fan when it was just this little smart indie Canadian show🥰
I am neither American nor British, and trust me, myself and the the rest of planet Earth don't give a damn about the precision of her British accent and the pointless discussion about it below this video. She is an AMAZING actress that is able to create totally different characters in a believable way. Most of the times I forget it's the same actress playing half of the roles in that show, because she does each one perfectly and she gives them unique features. Even when she is a clone pretending she is another clone (for example, when Sara pretends she is Cosima at the end of season 1) you can notice the different layers of personality in the interpretation, and it becomes something extraordinary to watch. So what the fuck with your "her accent is not real, blah, blah, blah blah"???
Im addicted to this series 0_0 tatania is my new favorite actress. I cant fathom the difficulty of playing at least 4 different characters with 4 different personalities and etc!
She's probably my all-time favourite actress ever, although her accents aren't as great, her portrayal of each individual persona is just amazing, she puts such detail to her acting, I feel as if they're all portrayed by different people.
I just love her energy. She is an impressively awesome actress. The work she is doing on this show will probably spark many to want to be actors. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show!!! I try to hold off watching it when it airs to watch it as close to the next episode as possible so I don't go crazy waiting.
She may very well be the first television actress that I've seen be so knowledgeable and methodical about her acting. She knows what she's doing, and she knows why she's doing it, and I think that's very refreshing, to see someone be so intricate and have so much passion for their work. She really puts a lot of thought into her art, and it shows. Incredibly talented.
I was so wonderfully, gloriously confused most of the time watching OB…..great, great acting, writing and I’m sorry I came to it late and soooo happy I found it….thank you Tatiana -what an amazingly talented actor…will be watching out for more of you!
i love that she feels so comfortable talking about her work. You can tell she takes it seriously and that it's her passion and craft, but she doesn't take /herself/ so seriously that she feels like her character work should remain ~mysterious, or like it's too personal of a subject. i think a lot of actors have that problem.
I'm British and I 100 per cent believe Sarah is British. Any accent can be a hybrid of different regions and influences. I'm not even watching the show to rate her accents even though I believe them all. Her performances are flawless. Love this show!
Her "British" accent becomes unnoticeable after a while. At first it's all I could notice being a Brit myself...it's such a hard thing copying an accent from over here as our accents change every 10 miles. You can't only talk about her British accent sounding like it's either caught in 80s London or Australia. Her acting abilities are absolutely fantastic. You can tell who she is playing from her mannerisms alone. She is just awesome!
Tatania is one of the best woman actors working today. Up there with Blanchette and Streep. I wish a great, long career…with lots of statuettes on the mantel.
I myself am English and her accent isn't as bad as people keep saying it is! At times I forget she's Canadian, if you don't like her portrayal of the accent then you try and do a better one!
MariaTheMonkey - Tatiana actually helped in some improv workshops for my improv team and also was a judge at the Canadian Improv Games when my improv team was in it back in 2005/2006. She's such a sweetheart - and I mean, I remember fan-girling after a play she was in that my drama class attended, and even at that time she was known as being huge in the improv world in Regina waaaaaay before OB. She's also 5 foot nothing and just the cutest little thing....despite being a few years older than I am.
This woman is an amazing actress. I basically just watch this show because of her acting, though the FX are also very good. She deserves every award possible.
agreed 100% i think thats why shes so good at acting and yeh its really refreshing to see how excited she is and how much thought she puts into each actress
She does a better English accent than half the other people in TV shows who fake it. And there's no such thing as a British accent FYI. There's a noticeable difference in accent every 25 miles approx. in the UK.
This girl is gonna be the next Meryl Streep (if she keeps her head firmly planted on her shoulders). And, she needs a little refinement as an actress. But that might happen in good time anyway.
She's such an amazing actress. I would love to see her audition tape for the show and watch her change from one character to another right before your eyes.
I'm not from any region in England (or in the UK, for that matter), but, even if the accent isn't always 100% on point (which, admittedly, I wouldn't know), you still have to understand that she's called on set to play 5 different recurring roles. She's played nine roles in all, five (including Tony's Michigan-like sound) of which have had accents and dialects that were likely pretty foreign to her. She passed it off incredibly well, and I don't think there's any need to debate that.
I'm from the UK and yeah, her British accent can be a bit off sometimes but that's because she's a Canadian actress trying to impersonate both Sarah's cockney swagger and rachel's RP. For the first couple of Eps I thought she was British and I 100% thought that Jordan was.
The show is awsome. Tatiana Maslany is a gifted and wonderful actress and this interview shows how intelligent and sensitive she is. And I feel like thanking her for all the good things and the important questions she brings in our lives. I guess 10 years from now we will remember having watched the rise of the next generation mega star.
She is INSANELY good. I've binged. The whole season in a day. (I had no plans haha). She's so incredible that I forget it's her, talking to herself. Really, amazing job!
As a Brit - The North of England born and bred to be precise, I feel that her accents are pretty good. And the story and characterisation mean that even at their dodgiest, you're hooked. When I was in Boston USA, people thought I was Scottish & at home in a town only 10 miles away I've been asked where I'm from so accents and dialects don't have to be perfect to be believable.
Why didn't I find out this show earlier ? I am watching episode 7 and this is the best show on tv for a long time. Tatiana makes the show works and she deserves an emmy. Other cast members are great as well, Jordan Garvaris really shines playing Felix, great job.
I love her, been watching all her interviews and boy does she like to say:"you know" and you know what i mean" a lot,it's cute cause she's like making sure you understand her,but next interview i watch with her i'm totally turning it into a drinking game ;)
After having spent so long watching her be so many different people, it’s nice to see her be herself and finally get a bit of insight from the lady behind all those different characters. Although we didn’t get to see much of Beth in the show, I think she was probably my favourite of the clones. Yet seeing Tatiana in these interviews, Beth actually seems pretty far away from her true self? It’s fascinating, really!
I agree when she said a genre bender but orphan black is also very rooted in realistic science. To me it’s what Sci-Fi can be at its best. The sci-fi set the base for the show, the actors were really able to layer each of their characters to such a realistic level. But to me it’s true Sci-fi with elements of other genres blended so well
I love the tiny little details she put into each of her roles. For example. I just noticed, that Helena was left handed, while Sarah and probably all the other clones too are right handed.
Helena is a backwards twin so everything is reversed- all her organs inside her body so therefore while Sarah is left handed, Helena is the opposite so she's right handed. Love OB so much
This and Continuum have been my favorite new shows stateside this year. As a big fan of Fringe and alternate universe characters, Orphan Black took dopplegangers to a whole new level and Tatiana has been fantastic. She makes it seem like they are each completely different people and the transitions are flawless.
the thing is, she really plays 6-7 different characters at the same time. With different accents. And she does this perfectly, flawless. I really think whatever awards this show or Tatiana nominations to, she has to win them. She really deserves this.
I LOVE TIs/// i love her ....i spend a whole day watching all of those episode ...im so hooked i went to sleep at 2am in the morning wow its so good..she shld be more recognized ya know
Wow, that knuckle ding she got bashing around the suitcase in episode 2 was no joke, you can still see the scar. This is what true talent and commitment to a role looks like, folks. 2014 can't come fast enough.
I was mentioning to my improv teacher how much I loved the show and Tatiana and he casually says "oh yeah Tat's a good friend of mine. We went to the same improv school, she's great!"........... I FANGIRLED TO HIM FOR AN HOUR.
she's an amazing actress. imagine the work she has to put in for this show. her accents aren't perfect, it's true, but who's are, including the british... i could've sworn felix was from london, though. if he's not gay, as well, i would be astounded.
Jordan (who plays Felix) is not gay.. but he plays it really good. I love Tatiana. she's talented. I mean she has to learn quite a lot of accents to play these characters.
Her british accent sounds a little australian - but give her a break. She's an actress, and yes learning accents is part of the job, but it's not the end all. We're judging if she is a good actress, not if she's great at doing accents.
Both her English accents as Sarah and Rachel are a little dodgy. I think Sarah's can be fanwanked by saying that she grew up between England and Canada with an Irish foster mother so her accent could be somewhat mixed. The most important thing though, and what Tatiana excels at, is that she gives each clone their own distinct personality. It blows my mind sometimes because I feel like Sarah, Helena, Rachel, Cosima and Alison are all played by five different actresses. That's true talent. It would be great if she could absolutely nail all the accents 100% but it's a relatively minor thing in the grand scheme of things.
When I saw the pilot I wondered why Beth didn't look surprised to see another girl who's identical to her then I realized it was because she was aware of the clones so she was just like 'oh there's another one'
Accents are not a fix thing, Sarah the British came to Canada at a young age so it's quite normal that she would adapt to a more Canadian accent. The Beatles spoke with a strong Liverpool accent and yet they sang with an international kind of English and as the years went by the Liverpool accent and expressions (regionalisms) faded a lot.
I can see Sarah's face, but with the voice of Cosima....🌞 - BTW i finshed watched orphan black just right now and i feels like my life has stoped and i want another season of it 😭😭😭!
I didn't express myself well. I wanted to say that Tatiana's accent is a very well done London accent, and that Maria's accent is her own, since she's from Ireland.
totally agree! i love the work that she does with each character :) i've also seen Once Upon A Time's Lana Parrilla put lots of attention to detail into her work too :) actresses like them are rare, but they are amazing to watch!
I love how passionate she is about her career. Good job Tatiana!
More than a good job. She is the one getting the most tired...
Tatiana seem a lot of Cosima's persona. I LIKE IT!!!
That is so true...Cosima talks with her hands and so does Tatiana.
and the voices are similar
and her facial expressions aswell! Like the way she slightly turns her head to the side when listening
Cosima has a lot of pauses in her sentences and has this low voice
Both Tatiana and Cosima are very expressive with their body language, and seem to embrace the more dorky aspects of their personalities. It’s brilliant and so relatable!
I'm seeing Sarah with Cosima's voice. Just started watching Orphan Black and really love it and Tatiana.
She has done a brilliant job of making all these characters so distinct, she makes me forget that they are all played by the one person
Finally an actress who isn't English doing a brilliant English accent as Sarah! Every person mainly American's I've heard do an English accent make us sound so posh she doesn't its pretty stop on! xx
spot*
I'm from England and have lived here the entirety of my life and let me tell you that her British accent is pretty spot on. It have a London twang and it think it suits Sara prodigiously well, as for Rachel's more "posh" accent, Titiana does an incredible job.
***** Titiana?
Yes x
*****
it's Tatiana; Titiana sounds like the name of some horrible porn person....
HAHAHA shit, it does :,')
***** no!! I disagree, can't get past Sarah's accent haha
Shes a genious. Every character is believeable, not just a wig. I cant believe she didnt get an emmy... people win playing 1 character.. she plays 12... best actress ever

I actually thought it was different actresses when watching the 1st few episodes
me too! I had to look it up
I knew it was all her, but I kept forgetting it throughout the entire series. It's just uncanny! She is epic
Especially the Alison (soccer mom) character!
Im addicted to this series 0_0 tatania is my new favorite actress. I cant fathom the difficulty of playing at least 4 different characters with 4 different personalities and etc!
I just felt in love for this series.
She's probably my all-time favourite actress ever, although her accents aren't as great, her portrayal of each individual persona is just amazing, she puts such detail to her acting, I feel as if they're all portrayed by different people.
Yah that's what really got me to keep with the show after the first 3 or 4 episodes...
I just love her energy. She is an impressively awesome actress. The work she is doing on this show will probably spark many to want to be actors.
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show!!!
I try to hold off watching it when it airs to watch it as close to the next episode as possible so I don't go crazy waiting.

she's so into it, i love that passion.
"In a really shiiiii...crappy relationship" Love her!
hahaha that painting behind tatiana is alison holding a bottle and a soccerball. damn you felix
Ani0227 lmao at felix's painting of soccor mum Alison
Ani0227 hahaha love your comment!!!!!
I wish Felix's paintings could be bought!!! Maybe they can, must check now...
@@mipoorboy1478 he didnt draw it in real life.
Cosima pretending to be Sarah, but pretending to be Tatiana.
I was so wonderfully, gloriously confused most of the time watching OB…..great, great acting, writing and I’m sorry I came to it late and soooo happy I found it….thank you Tatiana -what an amazingly talented actor…will be watching out for more of you!
This show really makes you think can't wait for season 3 >.
She is so much like Cosima omg
It's the hand gestures and the way she talks right?
yeah i thought the same xD
Just found this show on Netflix and absolutely loved it. What a fabulous actress!!
Man, I could listen to her all day, she talks in a kind of way that could make any topic interesting.
i love that she feels so comfortable talking about her work. You can tell she takes it seriously and that it's her passion and craft, but she doesn't take /herself/ so seriously that she feels like her character work should remain ~mysterious, or like it's too personal of a subject. i think a lot of actors have that problem.

she is adorable. I love her.
it actually took me 1 season and a peek at the wiki to realise it is all the same actress
Her "British" accent becomes unnoticeable after a while. At first it's all I could notice being a Brit myself...it's such a hard thing copying an accent from over here as our accents change every 10 miles.

Tatiana has literally blown us all away with her sheer talent and the work she puts into this, she is the most remarkable woman.
She does a better English accent than half the other people in TV shows who fake it. And there's no such thing as a British accent FYI. There's a noticeable difference in accent every 25 miles approx. in the UK.
Most people are really thinking of Received Pronunciation when they say "British Accent"
I'd say even neighbourhoods have different accents. My cousin and I live down the road and have completely different ones.
i love this women
My crush on her is unhealthy.
Conor McGinnity Olivier I thought you were dead.
She's my big revelation of the year !! I've only just started the show but I'm hooked and she does an amazing job with all the characters.
I love Tatiana Maslany she is such a great person and an amazing actress! I really hope she wins a lot of awards in the future :)
Ik im late lol I just finished the show and that was AMAZING omg she’s the best character I’ve ever seen
I feel like she is that cool aunt that is always so loving and passionate. Damn she's nice
This girl is gonna be the next Meryl Streep (if she keeps her head firmly planted on her shoulders). And, she needs a little refinement as an actress. But that might happen in good time anyway.
I see Alison, Cosima and Helena the most in her voice, hands and body actions. Very interesting.... She does such a great job !
She's such an amazing actress. I would love to see her audition tape for the show and watch her change from one character to another right before your eyes.

I think she might have had this interview right after shooting Cosima, 'cause her voice is more throaty, like it is when she plays her...
Fran im pretty it’s after Sarah she is in the Sarah clothes
There's nothing like this on TV right now, I love it! And she is such a talented actor!
She is INSANELY good. I've binged. The whole season in a day. (I had no plans haha). She's so incredible that I forget it's her, talking to herself.
Really, amazing job!
Tatiana Maslany should be nominated for all the major acting awards, in the U.S. and the UK. Canada too. Everywhere.
As a Brit - The North of England born and bred to be precise, I feel that her accents are pretty good. And the story and characterisation mean that even at their dodgiest, you're hooked. When I was in Boston USA, people thought I was Scottish & at home in a town only 10 miles away I've been asked where I'm from so accents and dialects don't have to be perfect to be believable.
she's such a fantastic actress
Orphan Black is soooo good! I was pretty impressed. It's funny how here she seems like a mix of Casima, Allison and Sarah
Why didn't I find out this show earlier ? I am watching episode 7 and this is the best show on tv for a long time. Tatiana makes the show works and she deserves an emmy. Other cast members are great as well, Jordan Garvaris really shines playing Felix, great job.

she is so good, one of the best actresses i've seen and i've seen A LOT of movies. such a lovely lady too!
Tatiana Maslany is truly the greatest actor of this generation. Her acting craft and mental process and prep is so inspiring!!

I just came here to see how she really talks because in the show she has so many different accents that i didn't even knew
Love OB so much
Love this show so much
This and Continuum have been my favorite new shows stateside this year. As a big fan of Fringe and alternate universe characters, Orphan Black took dopplegangers to a whole new level and Tatiana has been fantastic. She makes it seem like they are each completely different people and the transitions are flawless.
She is so great on the show, I am thoroughly convinced.
She's like a combination of Beth Child's hairstyle, Sarah's gesticulations and Cosima's attitude (without all the dude's).
Indeed, talented af.
the thing is, she really plays 6-7 different characters at the same time. With different accents. And she does this perfectly, flawless. I really think whatever awards this show or Tatiana nominations to, she has to win them. She really deserves this.
Give her ALL the awards!
She's so incredibly talented, this girl can act
She is soooo talented :) love your work-it's amazing!!
I've been very impressed by her work on the show thus far. She's quite a talented actor.
when she goes to swear and goes 'really shhh... crappy relationship' haha
I LOVE TIs/// i love her ....i spend a whole day watching all of those episode ...im so hooked i went to sleep at 2am in the morning wow its so good..she shld be more recognized ya know
she is an amazing actor!!! i love this show so much
Wow, that knuckle ding she got bashing around the suitcase in episode 2 was no joke, you can still see the scar. This is what true talent and commitment to a role looks like, folks. 2014 can't come fast enough.
THIS SHOW IS STRESSING ME OUT. ONCE THEY HAVE A REALLY SWEET REUNION IT JUST FUCKS UP AGAIN I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY AH
Thanks for the interview, great Qs, great As.
I like that she mentioned In Bruges cause it was a special and awesome movie. 7 Psychopaths as well. :)
i am hooked on this show
I was mentioning to my improv teacher how much I loved the show and Tatiana and he casually says "oh yeah Tat's a good friend of mine.
I mean she has to learn quite a lot of accents to play these characters.
love this show so much
this is so freaking crazy, i see all of her characters at different points in her speech
remember when she was on parks and recreation for an episode
Which episode?
Gemma Roche I have no idea I'm sorry :( Just try and search up her filmography and it'll show you the episodes shes in.
Her british accent sounds a little australian - but give her a break. She's an actress, and yes learning accents is part of the job, but it's not the end all. We're judging if she is a good actress, not if she's great at doing accents.

Yeah here English accent did slip abit but overall I think she did really good. Felix though I diffo thought he was English
When I saw the pilot I wondered why Beth didn't look surprised to see another girl who's identical to her then I realized it was because she was aware of the clones so she was just like 'oh there's another one'
She inspire me and as an actress, you're really good keep on =)
love her!!!! hope She wins the Emmy
It is amazing and disappointing to me that Hollywood has not fallen at this woman's feet. It just goes to show you ..
I can see Sarah's face, but with the voice of Cosima....🌞
-
BTW i finshed watched orphan black just right now and i feels like my life has stoped and i want another season of it 😭😭😭!
Orphan Black is my new favorite show.
Love her and the show!
She doesnt stop for a second omg
So many abouts in this interview! Amazing
