Now we need the Dirty and Dixie Dawg show. I would watch it.
Yep
Darn tootin'
@@hellacoorinna9995 They are very cool in the personality department.
Ah! _Cooking With Santee._
Wouldn't mind more episodes down the road like this one.
Also.... OMG! Dixie dog is frickin' *adorable!* :)
We will! I know, she stole the show!
Agreed.
Authentic (or as close as is reasonable) replication of historical "Old West" foods is an almost untouched market on UA-cam. I am particularly interested in "cowboys" and "indians" as well as Mexican. Santee's inclusion of the chiltepin was hugely authentic, by the way.
I am part Native American and love old west history my last name is west to
Nice!!! Thanks for keeping it alive.
God Bless America 🇺🇸🙏❤
🤠
Pup’s timing was PERFECT!!!
I know...I know.
My great grandpa on my mom’s side was a Mescalero Apache from Texas we used to eat at his house when we were kids and I remember it not having much flavor and it was all organic he lived to be 95 years old I doubt I’ll ever reach his age were to used to process food also my wife grows her plant’s the way you mentioned it here on the show we still hold on to our Mexican/Native American heritage and still use a metatè and stone and pedistol to make tortillas and salsa.
Very cool that you all still keep the traditions. Interestingly, all the early American & native American dishes you see have salt and maybe one other herb or spice to flavor it. Nowadays there's at least 4 in almost every recipe!
@@ArizonaGhostriders yes we hold on to them dearly since it’s easily grown here in Oklahoma plenty of water in California it was difficult for our crops to grow I would like to get a hold of Kent Rollins to see if he would make a video of our family cooking problem is I’ll have to translate so it might be lengthy also to show family photos from mine and wife’s side during the Mexican revolution and cristero war they were Mexican cowboy while my great grandpa from Texas was a Native American/Tejano
@@Platano_macho my respect for your respect of your peoples agriculture and culinary skills .
@@lifestudent2472 hey man thank you we have to keep the legacy going
I found the information about how they grew corn, beans and squash together very interesting. They obviously had a very good understanding of how these things work. It reminded me of something I read about native farmers in East Africa who grew local produce in the same way it would grow in nature, such as in the shade of the local trees. From the air their farms look just like any other part of the forest.
Sioux chef. Made me burst out laughing. Would that have been Sitting Bull,.As chef is French for chief then he would be the Sioux chef.
Glad you enjoyed. That was a Sioux chief after the joke. Chief Red Cloud.
Sous chef, Sioux chef, now I get it! lol
@@rickkinki4624 LOL
Good to see videos like that. Hope too see more on native people and their ways. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome.
Dirty Dan is looking really good. I'm glad he's doing well. My congratulations to him for his new puppy.

You're welcome.
Great episode Santee. Shout out to Rita, Dan, and of course the pup. That pup laughed right on the mark
Thanks 👍
Yum, Yum, Yum, I'm going to try this. That little pooch is a cutie!
I thought about you while making it. It may taste even better with Elk.
@@ArizonaGhostriders oh my, perhaps. I'm gonna try it.
Thank you,
You are welcome!
Outstanding! We may try this, as it certainly looks good! Dirty Dan is looking spry and healthy!
Love those beautiful German Shepards! Welcome Dixie!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you! Much appreciated.
Thanks! You guys have a wonderful Day! 🧙🤣
Our pleasure!
Love your channel and really enjoy the Native American episodes.
Glad to hear it!
Always nice to encounter a fellow frasier fan in the wild.
Yes!
Do one on tools in the old west: Axes, Pickaxes, Hoes, Saws, Hammers, Ropes and so on. Or maybe ropes deserve their own video? Awesome recipe by the way! Will try!
Thank you!
I think they have already done one on the hoes ..... sorry .
Ah Yes!! A classic "Woody" line!! Santee, thanks for video and the visit!! See you next week for Saturday morning coffee!!
You're welcome. See you then!
Yee haw Jesus hath blessed us again
Thank you!
Scrumptious!
Yup
Sioux chef...🤦♂️ lol great vid brother. It's cool to see the food of other tribes. Also glad you mentioned 3 sisters.. those crops grow the best together like you described.
John's idea. ;)
Thank you!
@@ritashuff7136 it actually made me laugh. I love his dry sense of humor 😊
We been fixing that for a Long time, didn't know it was a native American dish. Its really good too
Yep
The stew looks very savory. Glad Dan is looking and acting well!
Thanks
I like this ... I'm from Kentucky
Nice!
What a cute puppy!
🤠
Loved the entire show. Your a Master Chef
Wow, thanks! To be fair, the crockpot did the hard work.
Sioux chef!!! I love it! 🥰🥰🥰. Thanks for sharing. Hope you bring more American Indian recipes to the channel
I hope so.
Hello, my friend🌳💝🌺😄
Very great video
Thanks for sharing 🎁👍
Have a brautiful day

Thank you! You too!
That recipe had my mouth watering. I'm going to give that a go this week!

Mrs Santee is funny! Enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed
Always informative, and a cute little puppy to boot. Thanks man. Thanks to your posse to
Thanks for watching!
Just plain great stuff. Thanks
You're welcome.
Excellent!
Thank you!
Will have to try that dish out.
It's good. Maybe not deer meat again.
@Arizona Ghostriders Buffalo meat maybe? That be good stuff!
I've been waiting for another native American video🤠
More to come!
@@ArizonaGhostriders ooooooh I can't wait!
Thanks!
Welcome!
Now I'm starving 😋 that history in the pot amigo! Thanks for sharing has always have a great weekend guys.
Thanks for watching
Watching this in Santee, South Carolina
Nice!
Another great episode!
Thank you!
It did look pretty good to eat. Good thing you were able to get that historic crock-pot. And the puppy looks adorable,,❤️
Thank you!
I sometimes make a corn salsa. I use different kinds of kernels, creating a four part hominy. It's a snack made of True Grit.
I don't want to squash your accomplishment, but "grit" should never have bean in it.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Who do you think you are, Kernel Sanders?
That was very interesting. I'm not surprised that the Native Americans originally ate a healthy diet. Thank you, so much... 🤠👏
You're welcome.
new pup is an hand hand full!!
Yes
Thank you for the recipe
You're welcome.
Slow cooked venison Tepary bean soup. Mm mm, Looks mighty tasty. The traditional south Arizona summer cooking method is to set the pot on a rock for a medium fast cook, or set it inside a vehicle with the windows rolled up for a fast roast.
HAHA! Thank you!
Hah!
The stew looked tasty my friend. Enjoy the pup she won't stay that way long.
I know. They grow up and those ears stick up.
i see Dan is back to his best again :)
Yep
Never thought of it, but good to learn.
Thank you!
Loved this, made my day
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great episode Santee !
Thank you!
I wouldn't have thought that the Three Sisters would be prevalent so far away from the temperate Northeast, but that just shows what I know about the adaptability of agriculture.
Thanks, Santee.
You're welcome.
You evolved an ancient native American dish right into a present day crock pot. What an outstanding history lesson.
Glad you learned something. It's always great to hear folks gaining knowledge from these videos.
That was a great looking stew!!
Thanks 👍
Thanks Santee for this information 😎
You bet!
@@ArizonaGhostriders Remember Train Station 😀😀😀😀
Now I'm hungry! I'm not much of a cook but I sure like puttin' some groceries away! Great video Santee!
HAHA! Thank you!
A watched pot never boils! Always interesting content.
Yeah...so I found out.
01:51 "...and I ain't doin that!"
LOLOLOL!!!
Thanks. We who live in it understand it.
I’ll have to make this, sounds good. Found out my buddy is moving to Jamestown CA, a video on that could be cool, it’s an interesting town.
Hmmm, I'll look into it. Thanks.
Delicious one 😋
Thank you 😋
Great Native American food episode. Love the historic cooking equipment. Just kidding. Dirty Dixie Dog was sooooo cuuuuute.
LOL!
I have always loved Indian Fry Bread, also, maybe?, know as Navajo Fry Bread. But, I discovered this delicacy in Cherokee, N. C.
I imagine all the tribes probably made some fry bread with their rations.
The video with the food dish was very hearty you see what I did there hearty lol well it definitely made me hungry 😋great job. Eric
Thank you!
My family still keeps lots of traditions from our native heritage. Living in Missouri though, there aren’t all that many chances to visit groups. But there are still events. I love when you throw in native facts and stories in your videos! Thanks Santee!
Thanks for sharing!!
Loved it
Thank you!
That stew looked fantastic! I could almost smell it. You need to start adding historical cooking to the channel. Maybe even put together an Arizona Ghostriders Cookbook to sale.
Sure!
Great video and cooking. I'm going to try this. Thanks
Hope you enjoy
Awe! Pretty Kitty
Much appreciated.
Another great episode! May have to give it a whirl.
Thank you!
That looks good Santee!
It was! Secretly I snuck in some Worcester sauce to tame the venison down a bit.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Yes sir.
Great video! I live in Navajo county, have a lot of Navajo tacos. My maternal great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee, so I'm watered down native american, LOL. TFS
Very cool!
An episode on plants that Native American use for healing would be good.
OK. Also look at the Cherokee Physician, written in the 1850s.
Excellent video Santee. Looks very tasty. Your making Kent Rollins proud! Live your wife's joke. Souix Chef! 😆😅🤣😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi santee hope you are doing well buddy now this is right up my street cooking venison stew look at you cooking love it you have smashed it 8 to 10 hours that as you be so tender cute puppy santee dropping a thumbs up thanks for dropping by buddy really appreciate it 👍
That's a great compliment coming from you, Chef!
great work as always santee!
I appreciate that
Yum yum great dish stick to your ribs delicious! the AGR logo helping to grow them carrots another very well done vid keep up you alls great work Thanx!
Thanks! Will do!
Great video. I enjoyed it. The humor, as always was great. 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks delicious.
It was!
Very neat have a good weekend.
Thanks, you too!
Great stuff guys and gals. Keep it comin! Walt from Coolidge
Thank you, Walt! We're kinda neighbors.
I might try this in the fall if I can score some venison from my buddies who deer hunt.
Cool! You may want to season that venison with garlic or soy sauce to tame down the gamey taste.
Aww Dixie is so cute good job on the stew Man U made me hungry and I just ate i think I’ll try it just without the pepper
I like heat, and knew Mrs. Santee wasn't going to eat it, so the pepper was essential.
Very interesting awesome video
Thank you!
Good looking stew there, pilgrim. Not many people are acquainted with tepary beans these days. Thanks for the video, and an ear scratch to the puppy.
You bet Thank you!
Interesting. I’ll have to try!
It was really good. I might try just buffalo meat next time.
“Hopi” does a good job .
Yes
The Stew looked really good Santee
Thank you!
Awesome video. My little boy and I attempted a 3 sisters garden this year. In this part of the country, the ancients ate goosefoot seeds and other things long before corn ever made it here. Growing some of it, too. I guess it cooks like quinoa.
So cool!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Morning Santee
Hi
I didn't spend a whole lotta time on the Rez, but one thing I do remember is having to get used to the taste of beef and chicken as opposed to deer, moose and duck. Luckily the Wife is South African, so I was introduced to Droewors and Biltong, which is essentially pemmican and jerked meat. plus, where I live now is pretty thick with rabbit, so I can still get a little wild in my diet..
Cool info, thanks.
I would like to see a part two to what ever else you can find that you can make
OK
Ah. Another Saturday can begin because I watched one of your videos. 😎
Also the recipe idea is a pretty good video idea. 👍
Yay! Thank you!
Now I’m hungry!
🤠
Potatoes were native to South America. I only recently learned that. Great video as always, Santee!
The Choctaw tribe of Oklahoma grew potatoes
Even helped with the potato famine in Ireland
Yup! I should have put some in, but It was already getting kinda crowded in there!
Hey Santee! I just discovered your channel and I love you guys already. Keep up the good work!
Welcome aboard!
I've always wondered what the native Americans eats
That's just some of it.
Visited the Smithsonian museum of Native American history in Washington DC. The cafeteria there serves traditional food from all the different native American people. You can have quite the culinary experience with the variety of food from the Plains to the Pacific NW to the Southwest. Of course you can always get chicken fingers and fries for the kids haha.
Before Europeans came it was all Indigenous American staples. After the Columbian exchange a lot of old world staples got incorporated gradually. Natives today in general eat colonized foods altho if theyre more in touch with their roots or live in communities with more of their people then they are exposed to more Indigenous foods.
Should also be noted that theres modern day foods & cooking styles in both the US and Mexico that are very indigenous influenced. Technically anything that has tortillas could be considered “Indigenous” since tortillas originated in Mexico. Even Tamales which were made by Indigenous Mexicans could also be found made by Native Americans in the Southern US.
Bear and buffalo.
Nice dog Dan! Cool hat too!
🤠
Hi, here in Sonora, México we called it gallina pinta, it’s just a little different but it’s almost the same, you did a good job at cooking it looks really good, I think you should do a video of the vaquero sonorense, it’s a really important part of the cowboy history and also it’s something that not a lot of people knows
I will at some point. I really want to interview a modern vaquero who knows the history.
A little 🌽 corny, I’m glad you got to the 🥩 meat of it… I’ll squash the like 👍🏻 button 🤠 see ya on down the trail
Look at you, just gonna "stir" up trouble??? 🤠

It's good to see Dan back !👍
"Freedom cat" is my daughter and she wanted me to mention...." When Dan would whistle for Dixie girl.... HE WOULD BE WHISTLING DIXIE." 😁
