- In our last episode we covered a lot of ground, discussing the evolution of the Leica digital M over the last 15 years, but we're not done yet! Leica experts David Farkas and Josh Lehrer will be doing a a second part in their retrospective look at the last 15 years since the first Leica Digital M was introduced. Over these two episodes, they'll cover every digital M model, starting with the M8 and going all the way to the latest M10-R, talking about unique features, improvements and offering thoughts on each. If you're looking to get information on what sets apart an M9-P from an M262 or just want to know if it's worth upgrading to a newer generation of camera, this is a must-watch episode. As always, questions are welcome, both ahead of time and live.

Glad you enjoyed it! We're capturing video using two Leica SL2-S cameras, one with a 24-90 and the other with a 90-280. Lighting is care of Intellytech's Litecloth LED panels.

From the last episode you are quite right about not using now the IR/UV filters supplied with the M8, I tested it against the X-Rite colour checker passport and found a difference. I have been using one on a Summicron -M f2 35mm and an M 240 P quite foolish of me! Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Guys...I don't know if anyone has mentioned this to you or not but when you think you're cutting out from the Live-Stream...you're still live as far as I can see watching days later. Just jittery...but still watchable! No need to pause the recording. Those watching live can always check back later...just sayin'...Otherwise, my favorite Leica show! We need more content like this to help the rest of us navigate the labyrinth of Leica's many iterations :)

Never mind the internet speed, brilliant episode! I loved the Reporter and Noctilux surprise reveals too. I am so craving to get that Noctilux one day. It would be incredible on the M10M. Any chance you could bring some M10M sample images to the Noctilux episode? I have also been wondering for a long time about why the M10-D has been discontinued. A successful model from what I could tell based on all the enthusiasm around it. Greetings from Norway :).

46:18 I can definitely confirm that 28 elmarit asph(v2) works lot better on M10 compare to M9. Not much on corner sharpness, but color shift is lot better controlled on M10.
1:09:42 regarding the M10-P upgrade to get the virtual horizon/spirit level. What upgrade program? You mean sell your M10, then buy the M10-P? OR send your M10 for a hardware change? Never heard of the latter.
The latter is what the upgrade program is about.

@@allena3430 I talked to my local Leica Store. Given the hardware needed and cost of the upgrade, its better just to sell the m10 and get the M10-P. Problem for me is that the M10 is way down in price for upgrade value. Guess I'll keep the M10 :)
@@93mm_18 I agree. A used M10P is pretty close in price too. Still a thousand but closest to getting the M10P without paying for a brand new price tag. Perhaps M10R would be a better purchase if you do find one for not more than 2000 in difference. 🤣

I’ve never held an M10 in my hands but, from all the dimensions I’ve seen online, the M10 is 2mm thicker than the M9. So I’m curious why you’d say it’s finally the same size as a film camera - isn’t the 240/262 the only fat ones?

Great show like always. Leica m10-r I watch a lot of pictures in Flickr where I upload my q-p pictures. Why the pictures , color, resolution look not great? I am very disappointed so far.
I see in a german camera website that the m10 has 16bit colors per channel, vs 14 bit colors per channel on a Q2 or SL. Is it me or when I look the colors from an M10 are my favorites compared to other Leica. Could it be those 2 bits per color channel difference?
This is unfortunately a continued source of confusion due to conflicting spec sheets. All Leica digital cameras capture a 14-bit RAW file, but use a 16-bit DNG container. What you might be seeing is the additional dynamic range of the M10-R vs. the Q2 or SL.
@@RedDotForum I have seen hundreds of pictures on Flickr and the only ones that look good with the m10-r are taken with the APO’s. If you get a chance to view this on Flickr you would clearly see what I mean. This does not happen with other M’s. Maybe it’s a software issue or the lenses except a few render well on such resolution. I am sure it’s a great camera and I am sure this problems will eventually get fixed, but for now I am not tempted to order one until It gets fixed.I take this opportunity to thank you for you live UA-cam shows, I really enjoy them. I have been watching your video's on the M cameras and the leica lens for the M from the M9 to the M10R. Also the SL camera's. I bought the compact D-Lux 7 last year and I love the images I get from the camera . I plan to take the camera to Europe for travel. I find that I leave my Nikon at home in favor of this wonderful little Leica. Could you do a review of the D-Lux camera's? Get way to get started into the Leica World.

excellent show, Is Leica ever going to introduce adjustable diopter to there M range, its only been 80 years since the iii had it.
Doubtful, but you never know what they may choose to do down the line. The Q2, CL, SL2 all have adjustable diopters.
Why don't Leica introduce a frame line selector that you can use to switch between the frame lines you prefer to use. Useful for focal lengths that do not have accurate frame lines available. Like the 40mm which automatically triggers 50mm frame lines rather than the more useful 35mm ones.
Hi guys could you guys make a video of Leica flash system. I feel every Leica M photo I see is not using flash lighting. Remember Lights Camera = “Leica”
If I had a Red Dot Camera I think I would be in shock. I’d stand down in my Darkroom and not know what to do. Shoot with a Leica. Upload. Done.
Now it’s: Shoot. Develop. Dry. Cut. Sleeve. Print/Scan. Dodge/Burn, Print, ReDoo 8 times for appropriate dry down factor. Press. Mount. Done.
I think using an M10 my brain would be in shock. I would have to get an M2 and a 35mm Summaron to feel normal.
I find it odd that so many Leica shooters aren’t bothered by the small buffers of so many of the M bodies. At one point in this broadcast, the question is asked if there is any difference using the M262 vs using the M240. Josh answers, but doesn’t mention that the M-P version of the M240 had a much larger buffer. To me, the small buffer of the M240 and M9 hinders my usage of those cameras. The M262 would have been the first “perfect” M240 if they had given it the 2 Gig buffer. It’s just hard for me to understand how other shooters aren’t as bothered by the small buffer cameras as I am.
@@MrGWils I think it all comes down to your shooting style. I don't hit the buffer on my M10, but I'm certain I'd hit it on an M10-R. I hit it frequently on the M240. And don't get me started on the M9, haha. I know it's not a priority for most M shooters, but I really wish Leica would make it a priority on the next M body.
Guess it's shooting style, I've never hit the buffer limit on my 262

Hopefully not. I love the D. The D fits great in hand. Some people don't like the D, but it's all black and quite mysterious how it works at times. Fin.

Maybe the M11 will have an IBIS and BSI sensor.
M cameras need a larger buffer and a more snappy performance overall much more than they need IBIS.
there will be no IBIS on the M series from what I've heard any time soon

I wish. Unfortunately, our current Business Internet service is several hundred dollars per month, which only makes the situation that much more frustrating. We are now just awaiting our upgrade to dedicated fiber ethernet. Annoying that we will now have to pay over $1000/mo just to get reliable upload speeds for 4K streaming.
