Hiroki! What a legend! 🤩
Love his construction style!
Hiroki is amazing. He very much impressed me.
THIS is becoming a lost art. Learn from these people how to MAKE! Thanks Josh. 73
Us pre-millenials call it "home brewing".
@@videotrexx like 'making' was something a child did in the bathroom lol
this is brilliant Josh! thanks for letting the gentleman explaining his ideas und inventions!
This is what I call the electrifying spirit of ham radio! 😮
It wonderful to seeing amater still making radios just like the old days fantastic.
Thanks for taking us along Josh, definitely some interesting and innovative ideas, I really liked seeing the creations that Hiroki put together. 73 de VE7WNO
That Trusdx housing is definitely going on my Christmas list lol
Ed Fong is the man!!!
I swear, I'm amazed at some peoples tinkering skills and what they're able to come up with. Awesome video as always, Josh!
The body of the poor man's KH1 was a AN/PRT-4 used during the early part of the Vietnam War I beleive. 7:43 This video was amazing, thank you. 73
It was really cool watching...I heard you talk about Ed Fong and my ears tweaked up..
I have one of his antennas... then later when you were interviewing Hiroki AH6CY...I was like... wait a minute...I made a CW contact with him... had to go dig out the QSL card. He was very patient with me as I fumbled up my code. Nice guy.
Both of those men are ham radio treasures. So impressed!
Im loving the diy keyers especially the magnetic loop antennas by hiroki
Cool, I would have loved to see the presentations there.
Being a QRPer this was wonderful to see and yes seeing Ed Fong was awesome.
Thank you for sharing! That was way innovative.
I want to see more from these guys!!
BTW, Josh, what's the need of the guy with the heart valve? Does he need our help?
I gotta go to one of these events. I could bother these guys about their ridiculous(complimentary) builds all day.
Nice to live where people do stuff.
What I admire most in Ham radio. DIY ingenuity.
Got my tech Saturday, your class years ago is much appreciated! Thanks
Glad to help!
And I got my license berfore Josh was born.
@videotrexx and?
4:23 Elderly hams making radios out of their old prescription bottles. 😅
Some of us elderly hams in our mid 60s that are prescribed medications by a physician have been licensed with an Advanced Class License for almost 50 years, and have been 'home brewing' our own gear using unusual materials. That was long before the newer generation of no-code appliance operators were given the exact question and answer pool of the testing for the three current available classes of amateur radio licenses. At least many of us old farts know how to determined a "RLC" tuned radio circuit components needed for a wanted frequency. I was able to attend the 'Dayton HAMFEST' in 1977 as a teenager in Detroit with a WD8 callsign prefix/ de KK6ZY
This is why the hobby and innovation is dying. These guys i can tell will never adapt new technology into their world. It's really sad this is what's come of the hobby.
My type of hams haha.
Big issue price tag! Haha all my gear is hacked together . I go by Ratchet Ham for for all my ratchet hack jobs.
Currently showing my uni club K6UCI the way. UHF repeater on the way, hf remote station , digipeater , and hopefully winlink rms soon.
Really need to get on the roof and figure out why our tri beam rotator is a fuckery . Hopefully just a loose or corroded connector😅
Does any RF escape the dummy loads to the point that a radio a few feet away could pick it up with another dummy load? Never used one.
Sure does
We had a test lead clipped to the dummy load as an 'antenna'
@@AI6XG It all looks like fun.
That poor mans kh1 is the best thing ive ever seen!
This was great Josh. We appreciate your channel. ki4cfu.
I appreciate that!
Found it Josh, not until December!!👍🏻
CAN YOU SUGGEST
A GOOD POWER SAPPLY FOR THE RADIODDITY QT80 10 METER RADIO TO USE AS A BASE STATION ?
I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU.
Oh man.. i need that aluminum case for the (tr)USDX.. that is sweet looking! Hope his heart surgery goes well!
There are some clever people out there.
Josh that aluminum case was very nice!!! Any info on acquiring one of them???
Yeah. We talked about it on the video. Check QRPGuys in a few weeks.
When the shtf comes i need one of these guys in my bunker.
thank you
Make that trusdx case with integrated battery & sound card 🙏
can you suggest your favorite GMRS radio thanks
Is that a Hill People Gear Kit bag on your chest???
Yeah buddy.Y recent EDC video talks about it.
How awesome is this?
Hey Josh will you be coming to Quartzsite Hamfest in January 2025? Would love to see you there
As of now, no. But things can change!
I would like to think this is NOT a dying art but a vibrant niche of ham radio. We have never lived in more opportune times to build and experiment. We can watch UA-cam videos by the likes of Peter Parker VK3YE, Charlie Morris ZL2CTM, Mike WU2D on his Microwave1 channel, Paul VK3HN, Nick the Vic M0NTV and the list goes on forever!!! We can build kits by QRP Labs....buy cheap powerful components (microcontrollers and IC's) and homebrew, or be nostalgic, and play with tubes. So HAMS reading this, if you haven't try to build anything...try it ...but be careful lest it become an affliction, like it has for me!!! Salutations and 73 de VK2AOE dit dit.
Hey Josh, how nice to see your relaxed smile - wine glass in hand. The hamfests near here are very small, but, wow - now I have to go to a large one to see something other than folks selling ham equipment. As always, time well spent watching your videos. KQ4IXD
