Many times, an audience will clap - once they are sure the singer is singing a particular song (in all genre). Nessun Dorma is arguably one of the most famous songs in Opera and everyone would have been anticipating him singing this particular song. Once they know where he is going, the excitement will spill over!
Each time I say: "Geez". And I literally have tears and goosebumps.
His voice was DIVINE. His passion HUMAN. His technique ALIEN.
Rest in Peace, great soul.
Be well BIG LUCIANO.
I LOVE YOU 😊
This performance was at a concert, which is why the audience clapped. This is probably the favourie tenor aria and Pavarotti is incomparable. Enjoy.
"Nessun Dorma" was il Maestro's signature piece. He OWNED that aria!
At the end, Luciano knew he had delivered a performance that would go down in the annals of history
As far as the applause at the beginning. This is an aria taken from an opera in a concert setting. In an opera he would be in costume and makeup. They wouldn't applaud until the end there. Here they're reacting to first realizing what aria it is. And nessun dorma is his signature piece.
Thanks so much for the info. Makes perfect sense now :)
Flawless. For those of us old enough this is Italia 90 vibes
No one sleeps because there's a game on! 👍
Luciano passed away in 2007 at the age of 71. The opening ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympics may have been his final performance. He sang Nessun Dorma. This is a lifetime of training. RIP Luciano. Check out The 3 Tenors 1994 Los Angeles performance. You will get a lot out of it.
I'm no expert on opera but I do know these people train for years and years and Pavorotti was THE MAN.
Notice how he respects the conductor's efforts to control the tone and temper of the moment.
I enjoyed your comments...would like to see more in the future. Good insight.
Bravo, Luciano!!! You can appreciate opera without knowing a damn thing about it. The melody of this aria, the powerful voice of Luciano ... INCREDIBLE!!!
Hello Steve. People do clap during opera performances, after especially well done arias. Also, during real opera performances, there are NO mikes at all. The power of the singers' voices carry it to the whole house. La Scala opera house in Milan, for instance, has five balconies.
the applause was recognition of this aria.
Thank-you Steve for your heart-felt comments. Luciano Pavarotti was certainly one of the all-time greats when it comes to opera.
The two micro-phones allows the vocal to be recorded on separate channels, left and right for a surround-sound effect. This achieves a better quality sound than separating a single audio channel on the mixing desk.
Thanks so much Michael. I'm here for the art of music, but I'm also here for the education as well. :)
Bonjour et merci pour votre vidéo "First time hearing Luciano Pavarotti- 'Nessun dorma' from Turandot [reaction video]".
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia!
(ll nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè! Morir! Morir!) coro
Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò!
Vincerò! Vincerò!
The translation
Let no one sleep,
Let no one sleep!
Even you, oh Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
But my mistery is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
When the light will shine.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) chorus
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win!
I will win!
I will win!
Thank you for posting.
@@leannsherman6723 You're welcome!
I saw on another video the mics were there for recording purposes….his voice wasn’t amplified…
This isn't an opera. It's a concert of opera arias where people clap more than actual operatic performance. You don't clap at an opera until the singer is finished singing...and then only only if it's an amazing rendition.
Opera is simply a play with singing...often overdramatic and simplistic...But the music is absolutely heavenly!💗💗💗💗
Pavarotti was my grandma's favorite. Can't tell you how many times ide walk in my grandparents house and hear one of his cassettes playing.
I love the memories we get to live through music.
Pavarotti was the greatest voice of our time bar none
He took at least 4 breaths during the time you thought he didn't take a breath. In opera, we are trained to drop our diaphragm in order to bring air into the lungs, so it sometimes looks as if we aren't "taking a breath." Breath control! I sang opera for over 7 years with the Arizona opera co.
This is a vocal performance of an aria from an opera. When learning to sing like he does one learns to take a breath without making it extremely obvious that you are breathing.
Exactly! I'm trained in opera, and "taking a breath " involves simply dropping the diaphragm.
He was saying in a interview once that to reach a high C at the end that he has a split second to decide whether it's going to be from his diaphragm or stomach.brilliant voice .
I watched so many reactions and this is the first one that mentions the breath control so much. I always thought this is so interesting how you did not see him breathe and that he makes it look so casual
Watching the performance is so much more satisfying for me due to that
Loved the reactions. You seemed really focused and interested on the performance
He made a movie named "Yes Georgio" where he sang this aria. He held that last note 18 seconds.
He's got an infinite expressive capacity.
I love how you showcase the performer in a larger screen, but the other commentator is correct in that you stopped it way too much.
Thanks for posting this! But i have to say with all respect, you should never pause music like this. It loses it value in the sense of touching ones heart. Let it play all the way, then see how it feels.
Thanks for the feedback Jordin. Never being deeply exposed to opera, this is all new to me. However, I am learning and taking notes :)
@@SteveDab317 Agreed, Never.
@@SteveDab317 What an awesome response!
You are absolutely correct Steve!!! Everyone should be dead silent and let the man sing!
This is a concert by The Three Tenors, not an opera. It was appropriate for the audience to applaud in recognition of the very recognizable first notes of this aria.
Or maybe you were joking?
They used double microphones because back then only one mic couldn't take all of the voice range of a tenor like Luciano pavarotti
Steve, you have such insightful reactions. For example, I've watched this clip about 50 times, but never noticed his breath control. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
You can see in his facial expression that "he did it" !
Pavarotti Legend 🔝
The three tenors in LA was an awesome album, they sung more than opera at that concert. You really feel the music. Glad you're open to the experience. It's not my go to music but I still appreciate the beauty and talent of it.
Another famous tenor was John McCormack. He was popular around the 1920s. Roses of Picardy was very popular during WW 1
Thanks. I'll have to look him up 😎
The best of the best
❤❤❤❤It's all about the feeling.
Luciano Pavarotti really legend in the world 😂😇🇮🇹
NEEE' - sun - dorma = "NO ONE sleeps!" ( A Narcissistic Princess in an Ancient Palace in China is looking for a suitable husband, this Prince is selected to compete, and has to accomplish an impossible task, or he will be put to death. He sings this; because he is "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" so, noone can sleep until he accomplishes his Quest.
It is a very enlightened approach to The Opera, I hope you enjoy your searches, and experiences.
For a breather, in between the SERIOUS studies, you may find Andy Griffith's 1950's Comedy Album, a humourous break; "Wit and Wisdom of Andy Griffith" or "What it is, is" where he explains the STORY behind the Opera: "Carmen", and a few others. (He also made a monologe re: "Understanding FOOTBALL").
his head barely moves - not even to try to reach these notes - BRAVO!! try not to stop his music this song is so short - save your thoughts of it after the song.
appreciate the tip. I'm learning :)
Thank you

Pavarotti was not only the greatest tenor to have ever recorded - he is also credited with bringing Opera to millions of other fans by hosting charity concerts in his hometown and inviting other popular artists. This is my favorite - Miss Sarajevo - and it’s the story of U2 and how Pavarotti convinced them to write this song and why. His great friend Princess Diana suggested charity concerts for a cause - and Pavarotti spent several years dedicating his life to these events. All the duets are fantastic but this one holds a special place - a song for peace! Enjoy!!
Thank you. I added it to my list of videos to check out
Other wonderful duets with Stevie Wonder, Sting, James Brown, Celine Dion, Elton John, etc.
I am very familiar with this song. Also love the Andre Bocelli one...I giggled when you paused and said he really bumped it up a notch (knowing what was coming next). Man, I wonder if you have done a reaction to the original Paul Potts audition on the Talent Show...Holy Cow!
I can't say I've listened to much opera, but I think its because I've never really been exposed to it. When I do my technique workouts for olympic lifting I like to put on an Opera station to help me keep controlled and smooth movements.
no stop when the MAESTRO is singing pls
Thanks Luca. I'm new to opera, so learning. :)
no problem Steve
is normal for u ..because
u are learning opera
bye ciao and have a good day for u and your family👍👍🤝😄🇮🇹🇮🇹
The aria is from the opera, Turandot..! Composer: Puccini…!
This is from 1994 The Three Tenors Concert in LA Dodgers Stadium with Pavarotti, Carreras & Domingo. It was the biggest venue that could hold such an event and took 3 years to prepare. This is one of the best performances ever!! Friendly advice... Do not pause such a performance..
Thanks for the added info :) and yes .... almost every comment has been about pausing during the performance. lol
All we can do is live and learn sometimes. Duly noted advice though
Double mics...in case one poops out. And remember, this is a concert performance, so the singer is in front stage. In a regular performance, the orchestra is in the pit in front of the stage. Opera houses tend to be big, so the singer has to develop a voice to fly over the orchestra and be heard in the nose bleed section. I look forward to your other reactions.
great talent, 40 years training, 400 years tradition. and tha't all. every single movement of a muscle must be on purpose, then comes interpretation; but it must be tecnically perfect. and he was old here. you are supposed to do it in a theater, without a mic, and the walls must shake.
If this doesn’t play when the world ends I’m putting in a complaint
Nessun Dorma = Nobody Sleeps the last aria from Puccini's opera Turnadot.
This is a aria from an opera. In the opera there is much movement and most times a costume that sometimes weights quit a bit!
Opera 'The Barber of seville'! - Nobody Dies! - you will recognize SOOOO many music themes! - from TV commercials alone!
Opera Arias are like rock-n--roll - the avg song by the Beatles is 2:35 because that is the attention span of the avg American, and maybe yours too!
Russian Album 'The Three Basso Profundi' - that's the Octave BELOW Bass - that'll make you question your manhood!
To get the full appreciation you need to understand the Story of the opera "Turandot" and where this Aria ("None Shall Sleep") fits in. If you get chance get the video of the Opera you will be amazed.
"I didn't know that people clap.at a song, but I'm gonna pause it for 20 seconds to get that 30 cents of ad money"
🤣 more accurately, I get $0 from this video. It all goes to the company that owns the media 😉
In this case it’s WMG, but I’m sure they appreciate you. As do I
This is one translation I found from “The Happy Linguist”
It is sung by Prince Calaf to Turandot. The opera sort is sort of an Italian version of the fairy tale “Rumplestiltskin”
None Shall Sleep (Or Nobody Shall Sleep)
Nobody shall sleep!
Nobody shall sleep!
Even you O Princess in your cold room, look at the stars how they tremble with love, with hope.
But my secret is shut away inside me. My name nobody will know…No! No!
On your mouth I will say it when the light glistens
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die!)
Vanish O night
Fade stars! Fade stars!
At dawn I will win! I will win! I will win!
(Giacomo Puccini)
It is pronounced Turando (silent T). She doesn’t seem to have a real name. The title Turandot is actually “Daughter of Turan.”
Wikipedia has quite a bit more information
Some might not agree with this and in fact this is the second translation I checked out. The first was slightly different (Set stars rather then Fade stars!).
PS you are right about the audience applauding. Except since this is not an actual performance of the opera but rather a single performance of the Love aria they are most likely applauding the Maestro’s presence!
BTW: one commenter wrote (about the double mics) “…might indicate a differential pair, pioneered by The Dead, virtually eliminating feedback.”
hey im subscribe, tnks from brasil, , im a headbanger but this is a great line , u welcome
Thanks so much! I'll try headbanging off camera first to see if I get dizzy or not. 😂
This needs to be listened to without intruption for best impact
If you want the full impact don't stop the video, let it play all the way.
Oh goody…. I enjoy watching people reacting to opera, as I personally love opera. So here’s a layman’s 411.. an opera is a play with no talking only singing. There will have solos called arias (songs). Pavarotti was one of the most famous opera singers ever. Generally, but not always operas are sung in Italian. None of them really end happily… but some are funny, some just sad as hell. Check out Deana Damrou she is a soprano (sings the high notes). Watch her sing the queen of the night aria from The Magic Flute …. It’s intense.
Pavarotti was a legend, yes! Just FYI it’s pronounced Nay-soon Dor-mah by Too-rahhn-dough :)
GOAT!!!!!!! RIP
They clapped because it's the aria he's most famous for. you're right though, opera goers don't usually clap, until the end or at the end of a special performance of an aria during an opera. However this was a classical concert, not a full opera
You must have heard this before because no one stops in the middle of 'No One Sleeps' by Puccini.
I believe the mic setup was for recording the performances.
You need to learn an appreciation of when it's appropriate to pause.
and perhaps you need to learn an appreciation of the fact that the entire world does not revolve around YOUR preferences ;)
Good Day!
Agreed, for opera especially it’s kind of rude to pause in the middle of a phrase.
@@SteveDab317 Calm yer tits. I watch enough 'reactors to know a good one when I see them. For various reasons he isn't one of them. That's on him, not you so don't act so butt hurt fella
@@SteveDab317 Wow, really? Please understand that you paused during the most important moment of this particular performance, widely acclaimed as Pavoroti's best ever, just as the King of the High C's was ready to hit the aria's climax. Pavoroti is rightly considered to be the world's greatest tenor of his generation, if not the greatest ever.
Accepting constructive criticism is a good thing. No need to "react" in such a touchy way.
@@NC-Mama-Bear it’s not always what a person says, it’s how they say it. That individual could have easily said, “hey, in opera the moment at (wherever it was) means XYZ, so it’s best not to pause during it.”
I wouldn’t have had a problem with it as I clearly explained that I am new to opera and learning. I receive criticism well when presented tactfully. Check out my other videos and you will see that on multiple occasions 😎
you have to listen to "Caruso" sung by Pavarotti... Ciao 👍 from 🇮🇹
I would love for you to enlarge your own image in these videos, because seeing your facial expressions is the joy of reaction videos - seeing YOU get the goosebumps that this aria gives to US!
Please, I urge you to listen to this masterpiece one through uninterrupted.
He's double micced for recording purposes, Steve.
Ya gotta try Mozart Queen of the Night arias! From Magic Flute.
Hi look at Nesun Dorma from the singer Amira Willighagen and react please.
Somewhere along the way “react” hosts assumed their interruptions assumed starring role. That’s hardly the case. Consider summary reaction instead? A short piece like Puccini’s aria from Turandot suffers from pause.
I feel like you probably said something of great value to me, but unfortunately I didn't fully understand it. If you don't mind, can you rephrase that?
@@SteveDab317 …sure, let the piece play without interruption, then share your reactions at its conclusion. It’s better for your audience and your perception of the music. 👍
This is a performance of the aria by Luciano Pavorotti from the Opera Turandot. I would suggest you watch the much earlier opera performance where his voice was at its true peak.... ua-cam.com/video/Q_hLh4qCqpg/v-deo.html
Try truly listening. This was his signature song.
They used 2 microphones because 1mic just couldn't handle Pavarotti.
Perhaps you should not pause the music so much....especially Pavarotti
These reactions would be much better if comments were saved until the end, rather than keep interrupting the performance.
Ooh ooh ooh, do this one…ua-cam.com/video/YuBeBjqKSGQ/v-deo.html
Thank you
You keep stopping...No no no
That's been mentioned in a dozen or so comments. lol
As someone not familiar with the genre, all I can do it learn. Some people cried about it in the comments, while others were more appreciative that I took the time to begin a new journey ;)
talking mid climax is 😞
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID! 😂
WHY THE F DO YOU KEEP STOPPING IT!!!! Let it go. It's Luciano. The greatest.
Why the F are you even here? 😂
You talk to much
Thanks for watching. Have a great day ;)
Please wait until he gets through singing and then comment.....I'm outta here....I want to hear the PAV........it ruins the performance....I won't be back here again.............
Thanks so much for not coming back again :) Oh, and for the comment. Have a great day
🤜🤛 Luciano doing Caruso's one of my favorites
