- Narrowboat life as a continuous cruiser in winter is not all castles n roses. Supplies are needed and if your moored up out the way then it means some physical strength and determination is needed. In this episode I 'work" to gather supplies before a big freeze on the canal. I take a well deserved 'rest' in my wonderful deckchair! And 'play' by producing barge pole art work on the frozen canal.
The Journey started here... I once lived in the fast lane of life, happily married of 26 years, with two children. That chapter was suddenly shattered by the sudden loss of my wife to cancer, which led me in to depression and homelessness. Waking up in hospital, after attempting to take my own life, with just a suitcase, kayak and bicycle and no money, I've managed to rise up out of the darkness and find happiness and continue my next chapter.
I'm a self taught film maker, and creating these vlogs, it gives me something to do, share my personal experiences as I continue my journey cruising and living life on the canal. Please do consider supporting my channel below... Thank you Dave

I knew when I saw the name of your vlog & boat that this would probably be a source of material to complement mindful meditation. Your vlog does not disappoint - beautifully done.
I enjoy really long cruises with little dialog or cuts. I live in the urban wastelands of Dallas, Texas but I teach drawing, shoot, and edit video (all for just my own pleasure in learning). I would enjoy some "making of" video explanation of your process, gear, and personal production background. You don't mention any assistant credits and say that your workflow is organic. That would require a lot of planning, setting up, and jumping about to accomplish alone, not to mention a sizable collection of serious HDR gear and an experienced eye Thank you for your work and quality. How do you do it?
Will eventually do a vlog about this, as I'm asked so many times these questions. Cut a long story short.. Not trained in film or photography, self taught. Making of vlog.. One man production. In the moment production. No planning, no script, no storyboard. I work as I go. All ideas come instantly, I go with my natural flow. I do not plan what my next vlog is or when. I trust and go with nature and what she puts before me. 🙏 No big equipment and all listed on my channel vlog description. 🙏 Thankyou for tuning in 🙏

You should fashion yourself some kind of shoulder/body harness to pull the wagon, then you wont have to pull with one arm like that and would have better balance when its icy. Just a thought. Love your videos and your artwork on the snow was lovely

We are new to your channel and surprised we haven't stumbled upon you sooner as we are absolutely in love with narrowboats, canals and the bridges and locks with all the history that comes with it, via UA-cam. Hoping to retire on the canals part-time if all works out. It's currently 3 degrees Fahrenheit here in the US. The coldest snap we've had all winter. We are now subscribed and I will be going to go back to the beginning and see your past videos. Looking forward to it! This is Tammie Miller commenting. My husband is working today, but he'll be watching with me in the a.m. as that's how we like to start our day. A relaxing video highlighting the snow and sun. I must get one of those trolleys!! It must help then having a car parked nearby!! We have 2 vintage deckchairs, they will come in useful when on our boat! A good warm up stretc exercise... narrowboat barge pole doodle painting..... brilliant!! Lynette x

It is sooooo easy listening to you eulogizing about the joys and the beauty of our canals and it's surrounding nature. For 15 minutes or so, I'm transported into a different mindset. I am by nature a calm and peaceful man, luckily, but you still manage, along with your musical awareness, to take me deeper into my natural state. I'm moored on the Llangollen canal, so fortunate, it too has its charm and peacefulness, easy just to relax and stay calm with the views outside, the Robins dancing on fences and branches searching for their elusive fodder, the wind whistling around the boat, and through the tree's, whilst being cossetted inside by the fire. Like you, I feel privileged, to be allowed to co-exist in this tranquil scene.
I know you will have some idea of how you bring peace and calmness to others with your vlogs, because they too, take time to write and inform you so. Your vlog endeavours are never in vain Dave, long may they continue. Peace to you and yours. Keep them coming.

A wiser man than I referred to "All that is" as being only made of 'stuff' that "IS". He ascribed to some obscure philosophy coined 'amprinistics', I believe, which focused on totally eliminating the 'subjective division' of all that is via 'positive' and 'negative' concepts, thoughts or words, into the objective perception that "It all IS". Allowing oneself complete 'beingness' comes along with the realization we are only 'made up' of ISNESS, every single one of us.

How interesting to see Poynton and The Trading Post. The last Narrowboat we hired was from Poynton when we explored The Peak Forest Canal. Such a beautiful stretch of canal. Those trolleys go far better if the wheels go round. In the early clips the rear wheels were static for some reason. Love the doodling. Regards AJ
Mud mixing with snow was jamming in between wheel. A poke with a small stick did the trick. 🙏

Thank you John 🙏... Just look up online 'waterless wax and polish' there is lots of brands out there. Last one I used was from home n bargains.

How do you manage being a continuous cruiser, and having a car. That's one of the things holding me back from buying a narrowboat.
I don’t understand how you manage to deal with a car while living on the narrowboat and continuous cruising? Do you pay for long stay parking? What happens when you move a few miles down the canal ? Isn’t there a risk of abandoning the car miles from anywhere it could get vandalized or stolen? So many questions ...maybe do an episode on it lol

Just to add... Wherever one leaves a car. Like me I leave it parked on the road with other cars and I obviously insurance. I do not focus on the negatives. 🙏

Just thinking I live full time in a motorhome , and I filter all my water , with either a lifesaver Jerry can and or a uv serilizer, is their not a system where you could if needed filter the water from the canal?
I would never attempt to filter from the canal 🙏☺
