@@sicosis Yeah, I'm from the UK; built a Westfield myself - A hot Pinto OHC though not a V8. Only 148bhp but still just 640kg so it still moved. 😁 Rover started developing 16v 'heads for the V8 which morphed into a V6 for the Metro 6R4 rally car, the new design later being developed for the Jaguar XJ220.
What's the rear end? This was the Spitfire's achilles heel with its transverse leaf spring I imagine that the car was similar to the GTE with the 2ltr I-6 in terms of weight distribution and that was lethal. The front suspension was however, the piece de resistance and it was totally bemusing that the Spotfire had the best front suspension and the worst rear suspension of the time. The bug catcher is just plain ugly and serves no performance benefit, a pancake filter would do much better and allow you to see where you are going.
@@dukeallen432Its no different than a great many 'hot rods' from times past. What has been done is no different to what Sunbeam did to the Alpine to create the Tiger. You could also argue that Triumph did something similar to the Spitfire by installing a great lump of I-6 cast iron when they produced the GTE. Back in the day I remember an MG Midget being fitted with a 4.2ltr I-6 Jag engine. The only objection I have to it is the Fugly bug catcher.
nah, you dunno what yir takin about. The late Spit 4 banger is GARBAGE and the cat coverter breaks up inside burning the valves, cracking the exhaust manifold. The Lucas wiring, the connector under the seat can part and cause a fire. I had that happen, the whole wire harness seat to tail lights burned up, smoke everywhere.😅 😅😅
Nothing better than 100 HP 4 speed in 200lbs. Keeping it in the torque band. This vehicle has been unceremoniously stripped of its essence and fun. More HP is not good. For most cars.
With the limited amount of traction this thing gets, you would just roast the rubber off of an expensive tire the same way. Also, premium brands don't really make tires in this size anymore.
I love old style British cars with a v8 motor.
I have a bugeye sprite with an sbc 383ci.
Handling sucks. Guaranteed.
OMG!
Triumphs being radical with body design since 1959
Please tell us that they've changed the rear suspension!
Or on it's lid it goes.
Yep leathal back end.@@kenashcom7580
Sounds amazing!
I think you might want to tighten that alternator belt, you know the one that's flapping in the wind.
$3.99
that red pick up .. nice
I need to drive it!
I'm in love.
aluminum block not iron if it sthe 215
A buick 215? If it is.... it should have a alloy block ??
Same, but in 1964 they changed the CID to 300 from 215. I thought it was iron, could be alloy? Either way its a Buick Lightweight.
@@I95Muscle rover bought the rights to use the 215 alloy block from Buick early 60s. Rover used it up until early mid 90s in Europe I think. ✌🏻

Why care what rear end is? Whole things been butchered.

yeah and Carol Shelby butchered a car to create a real race car, the standard 4cyl Spit motor is ' garbage' @@dukeallen432
I love bug catchers
If you watch Led Zep The Song Remains The Same movie, John Bonham had a taste for v8's w/bug catchers. I like this Spitfire.

What a perfect way to ruin a perfectly good and classy sports car.
We've got a stock Spitfire on the way if you are in the market...

That is one of the most Anti-American things I've ever read.
Looks 100 times more fun as a hot rod than an underpowered car with Lucas electrics !
All this work and money to add Aton of horsepower and then put on crappy Walmart tires

How stupid and dangerous too

Thats a terrible way to ruin a cool car. Do that to a Prius or some other trash car, and you’ve got me support.
