Thanks for sharing. Awesome video. That's what I call a tight fit. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Love you guys. RESPECT
Bought an engine for my ‘74 years ago from a guy who had put a small v8 in his spit. He had redone the frame, suspension, hood ,fenders and much more! It looked more like an A/C cobra when done and went like one too! I remember the drive shaft was only about 8 inches long. His favorite pastime was racing muscle cars. Time, money and ingenuity can do anything.
My '74 Spitfire had a 240Z engine and 5 speed shoehorned in. The heat from the exhaust was melting my shoes so I had to put a lot of padding to offset it. At least I didn't have to worry about being cold in the Winter.
Had a 67 Spitfire many years ago. It was my first project car. Overhauled the original 1147cc engine and rebuilt the SU carbs. It ran pretty good. Sadly, I never got to legally drive it on the road.
Thank you for doing this amazing work. Im about to get a 77 1500 spitfire and am wondering what kind of swaps work. Clearly a miata engine works with some skill so ill see what is possible.
Lots of variables, but it can be fairly spendy unless you can do some of the work yourself. You'll need to make some custom brackets and mounts along with some sheet metal trimming.
Having owned a Spitfire Mk4 in the 70's I found this really interesting. Quite a few old Triumph engines are beginning to wear beyond repair, or have been bored out to the limit so something has to go in there. So thanks for a great video. By the way what size was the engine you fitted.😊
Thanks, I did wonder. the power to weight ratio will be phenomenal. It would be interesting to see how the owner keeps the engine cool in such a tight space on a hot day, I hope he thinks about that. Regards Vin Heffernan.😊@@IronHorseGarage
fun stuff. I had a 1976. TR 6 - in the bad initial years of pollution control so it had little power and as much reliability... English engineering , from like 1938 what I wanted to do but never had a smidge of the resources - Toyota truck engine & trans.... the 150 + HP of the fuel injected TR 6 plus light years better Toyota drivability / reliability. Ya sometimes see American V 8's in Tr 6 , even Spits - with the amateur hour suspension, not up to standards brake etc , oh my. way back , in college I was driving my. 61. MGa. down the interstate , 60 mph in the slow lane. the steering wheel came off in my hinds. yes. pure luck I went off into a field rather than bridge support. got home, took like 15 min to drill a hole for a cotter pin. English engineering , amateurs.

Right on, wow. Thank you very much for watching!
@@IronHorseGarage As for hood clearance I would swap it out for at GT6 hood. It was on my to-do list.

Too bad, but sounds like you learned something. Thanks for watching!
Hey Horsemen. Good stuff. You guys need a lift if you are going to do this kind of work. This going to be nice when you are finished.
No doubt! Thank you very much Andy!!
Chilled Mekanic😂
Oh yeah!!
Hackmeister! Silly project.
We love getting silly!
Thank you for disabusing me of the idea of swapping out my Spitfire's engine. Ain't gonna happen.
Not a small job at all. But anything can be done. Thank you very much for watching!
Why is the only footage of Jason show him standing around and eating? 😆😂🤣
Hahaha, you know why!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You'll need to put some GT6 brakes on with that extra power and redo the rear suspension to avoid tuck in.
Thank you very much for watching!
That thing will fly with a Miata engine in it
Oh yeah!!! Yee Haw!!
That’s crazy
Thanks for watching!
You guys rock but shouldn’t it be stainless steel iron horse? We don’t want to get rusty now 😅
Possibly....and thank you!!

No problem, thank you for watching! Lots of possibilities with some work and time!
Until you get rid of the the shitty swing axle rear suspension, adding power to a Spitfire is just increasing the danger.
Sounds great! We love danger!
Should be the Rover v8 like in the dolly sprint version
That would be awesome!
What does it cost to do that modification...i havr a 1977 truimph...i want to do the sme thing
Very hard to say. Every situation is different. We appreciate you watching.
I have a spitfire and i really want to do this. Please, how much did you charge the customer for this engine swap?
You can find our phone number on our website. If you give us a call we can discuss further details. Thank you!
I would have notched front xmember
That would be the easy way.
Maybe get an old school vice….
Also see here on UA-cam "the widest V8 MGB GT in the world"
I'll check that out! Thanks for watching!
What's the cost of one of these swaps look like?

Ohhhhhhhh wait a minute now! Was I Firstestnes?

Just like stuffing a size 12 foot into a size 7 shoe.
Yes sir!! Thanks Glen!

Thank you very much for watching! I believe this is a 2.0 Mazda Miata engine.

Thanks again, we appreciate it!
I understand the earliest Miata engine is slightly smaller and a little easier to install. It is 1600cc. @@IronHorseGarage
Old trumpet
Something like that!
10 pounds of engine in a 5 pound car!
