      I mean how many years do you think till Japan managed to recover after being nuked?? Or after the tsunami incident?? I think it took years but that's with multiple aids from different countries and all the materials are on standby already and logistics and transportation are much faster in our world...
      Now when it comes to Hyrule well that's a bit complicated. Add the fact that the settlement (Hateno to be exact) in which majority of the Hylians reside were located too far to really start a mass reconstruction, Hudson is too occupied with Tarrey Town and was contacted by Zelda to prioritize building the towers first, as a recon spot... You have stables yes but they're busy with their own stuff. Each regions as well we're busy trying to recover fron the calamity..
      That's assuming there's no more monsters in the fields to slow things down further since I can assure you there's still alot since the Demon King is still present..

      @vivid8979 thats the goofiest argument I've ever heard for this lol. If calamity ganon was destroyed but the world remained just as dangerous and impossible to inhabit after the fact but then not less dangerous than after the upheaval then what does ganon change in either case? The world is just dangerous regardless with or without him.
      How long did it take to build Terry town from scratch originally?
      Link has still been around for these several years, and there's no guardians, did he not help?
      There's no good argument or explanation bro, nintendo just didn't give af to actually change the overworld because they expect people to be on their knees regardless if they get a new project or the old one left almost entirely in tact and the reviews as well as negative response to negative critiques have proved that.

      @@vivid8979 Fair point IF and only IF, there were still remains of the Shrines, Towers (okay if they went away like magic, sure), but disassembled the Divine Beasts, ALL of the guardians, minus one...If they had time for all of that, the could have had the time to rebuild some of Castle Town. Where is Zelda living? If not the Castle, then where? I can agree that a lot of rebuilding may not have been possible, but some could have been done especially considering how all ties to BOTW went away without a trace. That's the problem I have - Nintendo should have never made this a "sequel" or they should have put more time and effort into it explaining what happened in those 5-6 years between events and the Why's behind it all.

    Go play botw and you will realize totk is really different. The abilities work in very different ways. Like a sequel it took the ideas of the prequel and expanded on them which I think is a good choice.

    • @Didmikedothis2023
      @Didmikedothis2023  Місяць тому +4

      I've played botw (I referenced it all over the video lol) and you're right, it definitely expands the ideas, but it expands them in too many directions with no clear end goal. Aside from that, for every good expansion there's a bad one.
      For example, ultrahand is clearly an expansion of magnesis for the better. Ascend is an awesome ability which is a good use of a slot. On the other hand, the champion abilities are all downgrades (Sidons is actually horrible)
      So while some thing are a lot better, overall, the improvement to downgrade ratio is very off balance for a game we waited 5 years for and were charged 70 bucks for after the game uses damn near all the same stuff as the previous game but expands on some of it.
      Also, expanding on existing gameplay concepts isn't synonymous with sequel. Twilight princes is very similar to ocarina of time But expands on a lot of the same ideas, but it's not a sequel.
      Totk expands on botws gameplay ideas and is called a sequel but is completely disconnected in story and lore from the previous game.
      Majoras mask is a direct sequel with a new story that follows the old one but doesn't expand on the game play too much, other than the time mechanics. Get what I'm saying?
      One thing I will say though is that in the earlier hours of playing I actually enjoyed totk more than what I remember enjoying botw
      It just started to go downhill though by the second dungeon

    I don’t really agree. I liked Breath of the Wild….it was fine I put maybe 120 hours total into it. But I have like 600+ hours in ToTK!! I love this game honestly.
    I loved Breath of the Wild but for me Tears of the Kingdom is really good!! I loved the story for Tears of the Kingdom!! And I love the building mechanics. I’m on my 3rd ToTK play through. I played Breath of the Wild once and I was good. I think the imprisoning war stuff probably appealed to me as an old Zelda player because I love A Link to the Past. The cut scenes are so good. Also the physics engine is perfect imo but then again one of my favorite subjects in school was physics and calculus so I love the building mechanics and the general collision physics engine.
    The best complement I can give this game is I enjoy playing it as much as I enjoy playing Ocarina of Time which is my favorite game of all time. Between Ocarina of Time and Tears of the Kingdom I have a hard time choosing between the two games they’re really fun imo. I loved playing the Fire Temple because the puzzles were amazing the rail system was super easy I didn’t even use any flying devices.
    Also I mostly hated Age of Calamity and Hyrule Warriors those are easily my bottom 2 Zekda games because they’re not Zelda games imo. I played them for story only and I don’t plan on ever playing them again. I like Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link more than Age of Calamity and Hyrule Warriors. The story elements for Age of Calamity were neat I guess lol.
    Everybody likes different games it’s fine. I’ve played more than 20 Zelda games it’s my favorite series but if I can’t solve puzzles I’m not having that much fun lol. ToTK had so much creativity I loved it. I don’t get to really love a game as much as this one once in a blue moon maybe if Nintendo makes Mother 4 since I love the Mother series but I doubt they would without Shigesato Itoi.

      Lol I don't dislike the depths but with the money and resources nintendo has, they honestly could have done both. Botw was like 12G and Totk I think 16G
      If they removed 3 or 4 gigs of botw content, then that would mean that they added 50% new content max
      Since this game had 5+ years with 50% of the ground work done, I'm sure they could have got more hands on deck and threw in a couple more gigs of overworld content on top of what they actually gave us

    A good game, but not great. You brought up a lot of good points that further reinforce my opinion on this game. Being a "sequel" to BoTW, I was very disappointed to see the lack of any mention of what happened to the shrines, Divine beasts, Calamity Ganon, and for some reason Kass is just nowhere to be fucking seen. What I think was done well, however, was the prologue. It had such a grim atmosphere that I wish the rest of the game kept. ToTK isn't terrible, but if it was a chair, I wouldn't sit in it. If it was a steak, I wouldn't eat it. You know?

      Yea, it started out nice, I liked the link and zelda scene at the beginning, it gave a good sequel feel, and then the Ganondorf scene. But it literally started already losing steam at the point that I was talking to raurus ghost on the sky island. It picked back up when I got to the surface and set off to helping the regions but again lost steam after the 1st region and never really picked up again for me after that.

    I didn’t hate TotK, but I definitely liked breath of the wild more. I feel one of the largest pulls for TOTK is the ultrahand system, which while cool is overhyped and feels slightly shoehorned in to me. It’s used to solve puzzles and allows for a ton of creativity by players, but the whole building mechanic feels like it would be better off in a Zelda themed spinoff, rather than the focus of a mainline game.
    Regardless of gameplay, the story and how it is shown is my largest gripe with the game. TotK tries to have its cake and eat it too. They wanted a story with mystery and a plot twist, while also allowing the player to watch the story in any order. As such each tear/memory is far too self contained for a proper story, and too short to properly sell me on all of the developments that occur.
    BotW’s story worked so well, for me, for two reasons: 1) the story was simple, and 2) we knew the whole story from the start. The simple story meant that the cutscenes provided would be enough to tell the whole story. They didn’t need to waste time making me like a character so they can kill them off later. Since the player is not actively playing through either game’s story, the story must be told entirely through cutscenes and dialog rather than gameplay events.
    Additionally, knowing the story from the start changes the nature of the cutscenes shown. In BOTW we knew the story, so the memories could focus on the characters. For totk we didn’t know anything, so the tears needed to explain the story and develop the characters in a meaningful way. Despite needing to do more with the memories, totk does not have more a lot more cutscenes than BOTW. As a result it fails at both, it doesn’t tell an extremely compelling story, and the characters don’t feel especially fleshed out.
    Of course I know that having too high of expectations will always lead to disappointment, but I expected something very different from Totk’s story. After playing the game, I think a better way to develop the story and world would be this:
    Opening plays out the same, but both link and Zelda go back in time together. During this process, link loses the master sword. Zelda would stay at the castle training with Sonia and Rauru, while link comes and goes, trying to thwart the machinations of Ganondorf.
    There would be no depths, but there would be very distinct changes to the overworld and town layout. I imagine that twin peaks would still be one mountain, and during a large fight a dragon splits the mountain as is suggested in some dialogue in Botw. Other thoughts would be that zora’s domain doesn’t exist yet, so the Zoe’s live underwater. This could be in the necluda sea, lake hylia, or just underwater at zora’s domain. The past would have sky islands which is where the rito would nest across all of hyrule.
    As link completes the dingeons from the past, he can come back to hyrule castle and check in on Zelda, getting to see her progress and develop. Once link finishes those dungeons ganondorf will attack the castle and in the process kills Sonia while link is away. A huge battle ensues where you rush through the castle trying to find Zelda and stop ganon. This would finish with an unwinable fight, which ends with Zelda sacrificing herself to seal ganon during which she becomes a dragon so to maintain the seal for eternity. During the transformation she uses her last burst of power to send link back to the present.
    I’m not sure how the present should be altered to make it more distinct from Botw, but I would love to hear some ideas. No depths though.
    In the present, link would track down the master sword and find some McGuffin to save Zelda which would involve more dungeons. The final doing win would be a warped and distorted hyrule castle similar to OOT, and a final fight to kill ganon. Which ends with the dragon battle again, but this time we get to stead Zelda, and have to pin ganon before link can attack him.

    A very refreshing truthful review. My son wants me to play it, but after getting wind of various things that do not make sense "as a sequel", I decided against it. You cannot remove all things Sheikah from the game without explanation while not even rebuilding much of anything. You hit the key points on the head. It was a lazy money grab from what I have seen. BOTW has it flaws of course, but at least it felt more or less complete.

    My member berries are nice and plump, yet that did not seem all that long ago, and here we're at the first year anniversary of TotK. Funny how one year makes one feel like such an old man. Fuse is funny for a little bit but becomes a chore after like the first temple, and getting fucking one-shot at every damn stage of the game was absolutely terrible.
    The sage abilities suck and trying to press A on the right sage for the ability you want is terrible
    The story like you said was boring and repetitive and honestly my favorite parts to go through were all the Yiga Clan sidequests
    And I know everyone says they like the temples in this game better but like, they're barely changed from botw. And the bosses are so much worse this time around. The Blights may have had similar designs but they were all still fun to fight for the most part except Thunderblight, plus fighting the beasts themselves before entering them. The Temple Bosses in totk were awful. Muctorok and Queen Gibdo are the most annoying pieces of shit I've ever had the displeasure of facing, Colgera was only for spectacle and still managed to be boring, maybe would've been better if the cool method of beating them was more obvious, and Marbled Gohma is just ok at best because at least he doesn't do anything particularly wrong.

      I don't even think totk has better exploration because it's too easy to skip over stuff in it. Botw you either walked or climbed all the terrain and occasionally would paraglide but that was slow moving and usually low altitude so you still see things and aim for them to check them out
      Totk, if you're not flying across the land skipping things, you're driving across skipping things.

      @@Didmikedothis2023 I understand that autobuild can make traveling a lot easier but I was more focused about the new abilities such as recall and ascend which makes exploring the overworld a lot more smoother. For example, in Tears of the Kingdom you have caves that you can explore and when you reach the end you can ascend upwards and keep moving right along instead of having to walk all the way back out of the cave. The new verticality aspect gave room to some interesting and unique forms of overworld travel like recalling certain objects to make them go back in time. The sky islands and depths also make the world 3x bigger and it’s crazy how the sky, surface, and depths are all connected. Just some thoughts.

    • @Didmikedothis2023
      @Didmikedothis2023  28 днів тому

      @ShadowWizard224 I was talking about the zonai devices in general. You can literally fly over everything in the world. Now I do think the towers are a lot better in this game. And ascend is a dope ability but it really only works well in the design of the caves. If there were no ascend, the caves could just have an opening at each end (which some do) and then nothing would be gained from ascend. Recall is mid.
      And the world is definitely not 3x bigger. If you bunch the sky islands all together, it's barely bigger than the great plateau. And I'm pretty sure most people started flying over everything in the depths at a certain point because it was so repetitive. I never heard anybody say they skipped over areas in botw, partially because it was better to explore but also because you mostly couldn't do it at all.

Majoras mask is all about the story and the stories of the npcs. Oot had a typical story but grwat conplex deep subtext. But ok i giess skyward swords wasnt that hreat, nor was vreath of the wilds. Ajd the top down games are so simple theybarely have a story well no actually awakening is all about the stroy too. Okay so yeah somr arent that great but several stories in zelda are great
    Idk i dont like tesrs or breath very much. I think zelda is going down a bad path. Zelda is probably dying if you love vreath or grew up wuth it great you gonna get the same games over and over. They know eevided to ditch what zelda actually is. Sonthese games will just keeo trying to be vreath snd will be awful.

    I'm very glad more and more people critisize Totk for what it is, instead of praising it into heaven.
    This game to me has one of the most unearned and unreasonable ratings i've ever seen and is one of the games i started to heavily dislike while playing to the end. First tho, i'm no Botw fan, nor am i a Zelda fan. I like the original Zelda games i've played so far and Botw to an extent, so there is no favoritism or anything involved.
    Totk itself is a confusing mess of a game, even more so considering it as the sequel to Botw, with some impressive things like ultrahand and fuse, the zonai devices, the scale of the map(s) and making combat more engaging thanks to fuse, although not more fun or rewarding.
    The rest is dumbsterfire.
    Starting at the story, the thing most people have in mind when thinking about Zelda in combination with puzzles, and its horrible. I won't repeat the things you said in the video, but i want to add a few things. The whole plot with Ganondorf getting a secret stone could have been completly prevented, but for some reason, the smart princess of Hyrule and the current queen at the time seemed to know that the fake Zelda is a trap from Ganondorf, yet went there to...do something? Then Sonia gets killed and everything breaks apart. Ganondorf, for some reason, has a single secret stone and is more powerful than 7 other individuals with one as well, one of them the fucking king, and bests them in a 1v7 without even a scratch, flawlessly. But later, he regains his power and now Link is possible to beat him without one and some basic ass weapons you find in the world? You don't need the Master Swords after all. Nah, not happening. But thats not it, cause Draconification. It was a noble and heroic moment for Zelda to sacrifice herself to eventually save Hyrule, without even a guarantee it would work, but the whole thing gets blown out the window at the end, as you said. However, shouldn't a Draconification be irreversable? Should a dragon not be immortal? So why does the Demon Dragon have weakpoints to kill it? Cause evil? Cause plot? That doesn't make sense no matter how you put it.
    Sheikah being gone was especially confusing. Like, hello? We had guardians everywhere in Hyrule, shrines, towers, 4 giant divine beasts. These were part of what Botw is. Why not keep them, at least to an extent, and do something with it? The divine beasts, even if it doesn't make sense, could have end up in the depths and you just see them laying down there in the dark, covered in gloom and infested with enemies. Why do the guardians have to be gone? Use them, make them different. One of the ideas i had for a new, rare miniboss enemy like Lynels would be Gloom Guardians. They are controlled by gloom hands, more aggressive, faster, have melee attacks thanks to the hands, can climb around on walls and ceilings, can shield it's eye with a hand to prevent stuns. I and other people think that is a banger idea. But no, nothing.
    Speaking of enemies, it's good they increased the variety, even if they weren't incredibly good, but how in the world is it possible they did not make any new weapon type for the game? The whole combat system was now present and therefore in development for over 10 years and they can't bother to give Link anything new?
    Dungeons, my god, dungeons. All the people that complained about the divine beasts have no right to now praise the new dungeons. Except for the exterior design, they are they exact same thing. Maybe the bosses are an improvement to some, but some are so much more boring to fight or just as boring as the Blights. Yes they were looking similar, but i at least had somewhat of a challenge with Thunderblight. Colgera i just shoot 12 arrows at, Gohma i let Yunobo roll into his legs, the mud octorok i just spray some water on and the Gibdo Queen was challenging, but more in a "clusterfuck of enemies" kinda way.
    The depths and sky are impressive at first, but are the most barebones addition to the game. Sky is filled with shrine "puzzles", bringing a crystal from point A to point B with a few exceptions. Aside from that, there is nothing of interest, not even a damn village or something. The depths are even worse with Yiga Hideouts and their blueprints, which you look at once an then probably never again. You can find armor down there, from the previous game. You can find minibosses, from the previous game, and Frox, which are a combination of a Stone Talus and Hinox, which existed in the previous game. If you are not into the sandbox feature, the depths give no reason to explore them.
    There are a few more things, but those and the map being recycled with barely no changes at all, are my biggest gripes with the game. This is Botw, but again, and by no means worth $70, maybe if you haven't played Botw before, but even then it's a bit questionable. It's no masterpiece either, cause the, what, maybe 20%-30% of new, meaningful content, are by far not enough. Otherwise, why do other studios not take their best received game and now add something new to it, but release it for the same price again or more? Atlus does that with Persona, but those are special game editions, not a sequel, even if i also not like this concept, it's much more reasonable to see the same content in it.
    This game would have been much better if this was the original Botw, the only game in this Zelda style, or they had Link warp back in time to the founding of Hyrule where Zelda went to. It's fine if people had fun with it, i had for the first 20 hours, but saying it's "the best game ever" is wrong on so many levels

    • @Didmikedothis2023
      @Didmikedothis2023  Місяць тому +1

      Lol you could do a whole video with this comment. But yea, link going back in time was literally exactly what I had though of. That would be a way to reuse the map but make it different, but the mfs couldn't even be bothered to add more than like 5 new buildings in the whole world.
      Funny thing about the gloom guardian idea, is Age of Calamity basically has that but it's malice guardians, and they're a really good addition to that game. I'd recommend it if you haven't played it. I have another video very similar to this one giving my thoughts on that game as well (It's my favorite out of the three games on this map)

    • @blackdust7353
      @blackdust7353 Місяць тому +1

      @@Didmikedothis2023 I did play AoC, but i genuinly forgot about the malice guardian existing lmao. Not to say it's so bad i don't remember the game, it's just been a while and as someone that likes quite a few of these warrior type games, i would say it's a pretty good game. It had some interesting ideas for a game of it's genre, like the material collecting to upgrade certain things, having different weapons with different effects, some of the original enemies getting changed up a bit like the blights, who were my favorite enemies to fight iirc. I actually had a the urge to play it again lately, but maybe with the dlc, if it's worth it.
      The map reuse is actually the biggest problem i have with Totk, cause aside from some minor changes like having sinkholes in the desert and a river in the canyon leading to it, the most noticeable out of like 4 changes is the lava being gone in Eldin. Changing shrine, tower, enemy and korok locations isn't enough, same goes for the 100+ caves that are a snoozefest to explore after your 10th and neither counts Hateno with the buildings having hats and piles of rocks everywhere. Give us a new fucking town or show how a village expanded in the last year. I thought they were rebuilding Hyrule, not decorating it.
      Trust me, if i could do a video about Totk, i would do it. Same goes for some other games like Dragons Dogma 2, actually Botw to an extent and Mario Odyssey. Basically games i don't see deserving all the hype, but at least thanks to them being overrated most of the time, i slowly but surely learned to not trust any ratings from websites and such. Just Starfield alone getting a few 10/10 ratings and being called "masterpiece" somewhere was the final nail in the coffin

Would i have one of these, i could think about getting the other, but that isn't happening anytime soon.
      I agree with you there on AoC, but i personally can't go too much into what it did good or bad, cause it's simply really has been too long. What i still remember however, is all the characters, even if the selection wasn't very big, feeling unique in their playstyles. I still remember of fearing that similar characters like Mipha and Sidon would feel almost the same, but turns out, they were so well made, Sidon in particular, that he, together with Link sword/greatsword and the king, became my favorite character to play with until the end. This is because of the 6 year time gap, where most people only played Botw maybe once or twice and moved on quickly, not remembering a lot. In that case, this game probably brings back the same feelings from playing Botw for the first time, while thinking most of the game HAS to be different and the sheer size of the depths, the bits of sky and all the zonai devices are exactly for that, to overwhelm players even more than before

      @@Didmikedothis2023 For sure, but that just made it so much easier for them to sell Totk as well as they did, since Botw was so well received and the Zelda series as a whole anyways. It's not even that surprising, seeing how other developers release pretty much the same game every year an still make a huge profit from it, for example CoD.
      They once said that Totk came to be from too many ideas for dlcs, but now it's essentially an expansion or dlc pack for Botw, but as a new game. These ideas could have been expanded on much more, but they probably went on to put it all in there first and then realized how much work that would be.
