I have a suggestion for how to draw AND meditate sort of mindfully as an exercise.
There was a proko video that gathered tips for good art habits etc and I pull this from there, but it's quite helpful.
So you draw from life how you normally would. You find an object or subject to draw, but- rather than looking back and forth between your page- you focus on the feeling of your pen. How it feels on the page, where it's position is and so on.
You draw blind effectively. And it can be done with closed eyes also.
But you try and visualise where the pen is from how it's feeling, (without looking) and you conciously determine where each stroke should go.
It's very helpful for pen control and spacial awareness too.

I had an "artblock" for a big part of life, and part of that was that i was uncomfortable being aware. I could only do it if i reached a flowstate, so i naturally gravitated towards activities i could do while unaware. Meditation actually helped me be okay being aware, so naturally my desire to draw came back because i didn't need to be in a flowstate anymore to be comfortable drawing

This is the most useful art talk that hardly talks about art, sinix always highlights the interdisciplinary-ness of art
I always think every aspect of life can be seen through the passion of art if you will it to be, i think sinix might feel the same.
probably why I've been watching for so long

This is one of your best videos, I usually don't comment much here on youtube but felt like doing the exercise and coming here at the end to wish you a great joyful practice in your art making. I've been learning a lot from all your videos after re-watching most of them recently. This discussion also confirms some of the things that I had going in the back of my head after coming back to art with a much more positive mindset, after taking a break for almost a year. Thank you for re-uploading it to your channel because I think it will be of so much help to a lot of people, today, tomorrow and for the rest of the future. To anyone else reading this, I wish you a great day and may you make the art that you love!

i only started drawing at almost 30. i had a horrible childhood. one good memory is the -maybe- only time i reached flow state (besides when i read books). i had taken a huge stack of paper from my dads printer and phantasized about making a princess dress out of it and draw scenes from my favorite grimms fairytales on every part of it. i was like 10 or something. i dont even know how much of it is phantasy and what i actually did, i was straight up in trance. when my dad came home and i showed it to him he was angry because i wasted his paper. everytime i drew it was like "dont waste my paper". yeah, good looks lol. i wonder how you could transfer that to writing what you say in your speech. i write too but i always struggle with the heartbreak of having to decide for one of the two. with writing, i feel like i have a natural gift for it, cant really explain. with drawing not so much but i cant stop somehow. theres this weird need to be good at it. but i never lose that inferiority feeling of "oh its just not for me" whenever i dont like what i did. very depressing at times. also, with drawing i crave to do something uniquely my own but often find myself reproducing generic stuff. i did a course of yours and i cant thank you enough because it was the first time i felt lifted up and not put down by a teacher. i learned more than in years combined. when i catch myself kicking myself when im down i think of your statement that theres a way to bring my very own, unique vision that only i have out of me. still, i feel like its buried in a lot of seen-before clutter. any idea how to overcome that?

When my art looks too generic I do it over and over again and force myself to bring a new aspect into it each times. for example I don’t like how I draw eyes. Then I draw 50 eyes or so, each being unique from each other through lines, shapes, shading, color value… it’s a real challenge to do, but once ur done u will have amazing results. It also helps to have a folder on ur pc or such with lots of different artists work that inspire you. Hope this helped and good luck :)

Some people are mentioning drugs in various ways. While it can be, sometimes, interesting, relieving even eye opening or simply enjoyable. I am a bit disappointed some of us instinctually turn to that aspect in the face of concepts explored in this talk.
I am partially to blame to choose to comment this, so hey, I guess i am part of the problem too... YES sometimes I hit the za za too!
But i kinda feel it is a disrespectful endeavor not only to the amazing talk, to the subject, and honestly to ourselves.
I am not here to tell anyone what to do, or what to feel bad about (we all know there's enough things inside and outside to feel bad about) i simply want to emphasize the powerful tools residing in this talk. For me, exercising compassion and gratefulness to ourselves and to other artists was the greatest take way! I will reenforce what Sinix said, and invite you to wish upon a fellow artist you know, the grace of effortless and enjoyable creation.
So if you're reading this, go ahead and enjoy yourself, marvel at your own creations with caring and childlike enthusiasm, you deserve it... We all deserve it!
Lastly, thank you Sinix for the courage and vulnerability! Throughout the years, unbeknownst to both of us, you have shaped my artistic worldviews in a very positive and proactive way. Thank you for creating the way you do.
And thank you to everyone who read this! English not first language 😖

Hi! Can anyone share a gist of the talk? I have a difficult time processing all the words and would love to get another person's pov on what was talked about. From what I was able to capture: We can build trust in our skills and knowledge through practice of mindfulness. This mindfulness practice helps us to focus less on being too technical or mechanical or overwhelming with our works so that our art process becomes enjoyable again. From my understanding this speaks to artists who have reached a certain skill level but are unsure or lack confidence in their skills, artists who stress on the details (?). Taking the reigns of the shoulds and woulds and trusting yourself and your sub consciencse so as to relax throughout the process.
I do love the summarized second part, the Mental frameworks. Too bad that got cut short! It hit me hard as I am someone with depression (and also a little enlightening because I didn't realize i had this kind of default framework). I love the final exercise of wishing the best towards another artist to lessen the negative in one's life! :") Heartwarming!

I'm a bit lost with you using the term "in the flow/zone" or "flow state". Don't they use this term for people that already mastered their topic? As far as I know this refer to a kind of hyper focus they have while performing their task, they focus on 2 or 3 things and everything else goes on "autopilot" because they don't have to think about their fundamentals anymore since they already mastered them.

I disagree financially l fundamentally that there's a set of universal aesthetic rules. Perhaps there are things that are *more common,* but what you talk about as aesthetics here... I've always been baffled by them. Never once did it occur to me that most people *agree* with them, I guess that makes sense, but I'd assumed for much of my life that Art Rules are the way they are because some dudes during The Enlightenment period decided they liked them that way, or whatever. And I see things talking about the motion of a piece, how the lines guide the eye to this or that place... I've accepted that many folks *do* find their eyes guided like that, but I've never understood how, or why. It all feels like an inside joke I'm not privy to the context for.
In fact, that idea you mentioned, of an image half lit and half in shadow -- maybe I'd say something different on seeing such a thing, but conceptually that appeals to me a lot. I like symmetry, or reflected opposites, or whatever.

    • @_fabiolaborges
      @_fabiolaborges 7 місяців тому

I don't know what I think about the subject of aesthetics, but I've always considered that I have a problem reading images, because the focal point where most people look, where the "lines" are pointing, is not usually the place that catches my eye. I often get lost in games because I don't recognize the indications subjectively pointed out. When I realize I'm falling into a manhole in the game or got stuck in some random place lol
Maybe that's why I liked genshin impact, random places is where I'll find treasures lol
