      @@Henrik_Holst maybe depends on how many restaurants already adapted it. if no restaurant has the policy in the area then somehow no one dares to start as people may reconsider eating there instead of all the other options without it. but where I live, within the last decade, the majority of restaurants switched to that and it suddenly has become the custom as there often were people that shoved giant portions on their plate and left 90% of it

      @David B. Yes and no. Cevap basically means kebab. Cevapi pr cevapcici is the Bosnian and Serbian version of kebab. But it realy originates from Turkey, be it in another form. Cevapi and the Serbian pleskavica are almost the same thing only pleskavica is like a burger made from the same ground meat.

      The only good food in Slovakia is the ethnic Hungarian stuff I am sorry I have been to Slovakia over a dozen times. Even the Slovaks are abandoning their "traditional" cooking and eating Italian, Thai, Indian. Slovak food, I am sorry to say, it's boring and has no taste. Its kind of like Czech food.

    I'm from Switzerland and here you would get for 5,6€ a sprinkling water - if you are lucky. 10€ for a Döner Kebab, 50€ for a full meal in a good restaurant.

    I'm Hungarian, living in US. I enjoy your videos. You're real and not making up anything. I was laughing when you were explain the food. My grandparents were actually Slovakian hungarians. I know all those food you guys ate. Infact we have them in Hungary and we also claim them as ours. Funny thing, you callled the sourkraft and pork szegedi gulyas, we call it "szekely" Gulash witch is like from Transylvania.

    Nice. I’m sure I’d like it all! In the Midwest where I grew up there was a large Czech population, and koláči (okay, we called them “kolaches”) were something you’d find in any grocery store. But if you had a Czech friend with a babička they were better. :-) My best friend in elementary school was a kid from Slovakia, and there was always good stuff at their house!

    Actually Szegedinsky gulaš is believed to originate from the Hungarian speaking Szekler people, who live in transsilvania.
    Hence in Hungarian the dish is called "Székelykáposzta" (Szekler cabbage).

    Slovak and Slovene food are pretty similar. We, too, have friend cheese or " Pohan Sir", and you can basically find it most restaurants. We usually consume it with tartar sauce.

    6:35 Tarhonya is best with "marhapörkölt" which is a Hungarian beef stew (do not believe in google, it's not goulash, that's still a soup tho). Great review anyways, glad to see the similarities in Hungarian and Slovak dishes you mentioned. Also jaternica looks absolutely similar to Hungarian "hurka" (also flavored with blood or liver), and svieckova seems smilar to another Hungarian dish, called "vadas". Just some additional info, great content as always!

    Thank you for mentioning us. Your kitchen is also a dream. Only one thing we usually eat Ćevapi with onions or kajmak, usually with Lepinja too, a flatbread.     This was the best episode in the Slovak vlog, at least for me. :D As a Hungarian, it was so funny how you say the world "tarhonya" :D. My grandmother is from Northern-Hungary, from a small village very close to the Slovak border, and she calls every cake, "kalács". Also one of our favourite family dish is "sztrapacska", which is originally your national dish ( Oh man, I love sztrapacska). So nice to see, that many things like these are still living in the countryside, in an area where different nations mixed together. Thanks for the vid. :)

    10:58 we have the same traditional dessert here in Serbia, but we call it "bakin kolač" which literally means "the grandma's cake/cookie", and yes, grandmothers make it all the time. 😃

    It's great that there's a penalty twice the cost of the meal if you don't clean your plate. All-U-Can-Eat restaurants in the United States are so incredibly wasteful.
    I am missing the bread dumplings from my time in CZ.

      @@robertbess9636 There are several AYCE restaurants I frequent around here that charge extra for leftovers. For example the AYCE sushi joint I go to charges $1 per piece you waste. This other AYCE Korean barbecue place charges you by the pound for any leftover meat. I guess I misspoke when I said they charge everywhere - not all the AYCE places (especially not the big chains) I've been to charge extra for wastage like this, but places that do aren't completely non-existent.

      @@lifeofabronovich7792 - You mean charging to TAKE FOOD HOME WITH YOU. Of course they're going to do that. But they're not going to charge you for leaving food on your plate when you get up to go.

      @@robertbess9636 No, I meant what I said. At these places I mentioned, if there's food left on your plate when you ask for the bill, then you're getting charged for it.

    Hi Peter my family is from old czechoslovakia. I grew up on hulaski but its different from at farmers potatoes dumplings with cheese but I made twist on our family's dish. And we have traditional cake poppyseed cake my favorite chicken paprika ty for sharing!

    Im from the city of Szeged, and we have no idea what is Szegedinski gulas, many polish, slovak and czech ppl told me about this, but we have absolutely no idea what is this, and gulas (gulyás) is more like a soup. :D Looking at all the food you ate made me homesick af tho. Keep it up guys! :D

      Hm interesting and good to know. I was also believing that Szegedinsky gulas originates in Szeged. Btw we used to cook the normal Gulash similar to soup as well, but Szegedinsky gulas is yeah something else as you could see in the video.

      I'm Hungarian and I know "Szegedinsky gulas/ Szegedinergulasch" as "Székelykáposzta".
      In english it would mean sth like "Szekler Cabbage". The Szeklers are a Hungarian speaking minority group in Transsylvania.
      It's basically the same dish.

En mint felvideki magyar megtudom neked magyarazni ezt a rejtelyt :) A szlovakok es a csehek sajnos a Szegedi kaposztat ,, Szegedi Gulyas-nak,, hivjak (tejfolosen nem is ismerik) es a porkoltet meg ,, magyarszki gulas-nak,, kereszteltek. MIndkettot eloszeretettel fogyasztjak/tjuk a cseh tipusu knedlihez es nagyon szeretik. Eljen az egybesult visegradi konyha !!!! :)

      One good spoiler: It's coming. I saw a snippet of Peter on a summit somewhere (99% sure it's High Tatras), so there's surely going to be an episode about the mountains. My guess is Kriváň, the most symbolic Slovak mountain that appears on our 1,2 and 5 eurocent coins :)

    I'm shocked. I am an ashkenazi jew and we have a dish that is traditionaly eaten on passover called kneidlach(matzah balls) which are kind of soup dumplings and I never knew that this dish is inspired from knedl'a and I really find this mind blowing to me. Can't wait to visit Slovakia and try all of the food myself. Thank you!!!

    Bros, you are making me literally salivate. I love all of this. I am Czech but more from Morava, so we eat both typical Czech and Slovak food. The best of both worlds. I honestly don’t understand how they can make a profit. I would gladly pay double for a second hour. Eff you for making me so hungry. You guys effing rock. PS, I miss proper halusky with fried onions and bacon on top. Again, thank you. I love brinzove halusky. Another PS, thank you for including “Babicka’s” and not just calling them grandma’s, it’s just not the same. Na zdravi, from Toronto, Canada. From a Czech brother.
