    I am a Native Texan and I was raised pro-Confederate. This song resonates with me. I don't want to force my views on others, but I also don't want others' views forced on me.
    I am a Tenth Amendment champion. Let people in other States live as they wish, let me live as my own wishes.

      North Carolina native myself. My people got here just after the Civil War, from Germany, roundabouts 1867. I was born in 1987, and I grew up being taught the Confederate people were right, with the big mistake of Slavery. I have a stars and bars flag in my living room, bought for me by a dear friend who happens to be a black man. I say that to say our heritage is complicated, but I'll fly the Southern Flag until I die. That's just the way it is.

Hard work, honesty , treating others as you want to be treated but most of all about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the price He paid for our sins on the cross...

    As a Latina woman from the heart of Chicago listening to this in 2022, and listening to the lyrics " I guess there's something you don't understand", that means something different to everyone who hears it. I was also raised in this land and lets all do the best we can to be the best human to our fellow Americans, and, our fellow humans. Empathy goes a long way. Even when we don't agree, don't mean we're enemies.

      @@llxlxllxlxll your opinion is valid. Though, I don't have to be from the south to empathize and relate with this song. I grew up hunting and fishing because my father, who's not from this country, taught me that our food comes from somewhere other than the grocery store. He raised a woman that can shoot and hunt if she needed to. More importantly, he taught me to respect others, even if their opinion differs from mine. He worked hard for what he has, just like the lyrics in the song. It ain't that hard to relate to people....if you actually tried.

      The "original" Pledge of Allegiance did not include the phrase "under God." That was added in 1954...mostly due to political preaching from a foreign evangelist (Rev. George Docherty) who had never even heard it before his son told him about it.
      The ORIGINAL Pledge of Allegiance was: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
      "my Flag" was changed to "the Flag of the United States of America" in 1923.
      So, to pledge your allegiance the ORIGINAL way, in the United States, means to leave religion out of it. You can be loyal to a country without believing in any specific deity or religion.

    For some reason this reminded me of my grandpa. He passed away when i was about 15, and im 37 now. I remember he always just so happened to be shooting targets when we got off the school bus (we had to walk up a pretty long dirt road to get home). Later on, my grandma told me and my brother that he would sit out on the porch waiting to hear the bus, and he would go out there and start shooting when he heard it stop at our road, just so me and my brother would walk over there and spend time with him. And we would always go down there and mow their grass and rake their leaves, the he would tell us to hang on while he went inside to get some money for us from my grandma. We would always wait until he went inside then we would run home because we didnt want to take their money. Man i miss those days....

I live in the suburbs , My dad was born in Brooklyn , my mom was born in Asia and grew up in iowa, I dont know what its like to be a country guy by any means but i love this band, and these lyrics and music are something i can really feel. “Say merry christmas not happy holidays” “theres a bible on the table cause he bled for what we have” those lyrics really resonate with me.
    Figured id edit and add to my comment, but right now the lyrics “grandma’s in the kitchen” really hit me most. I lost my grandma on my dads side in 2021, and just 2 days ago my grandma on my moms side also passed away… i miss them both terribly. And those lyrics remind me their cooking and hospitality were immeasurable. Something that will stay with me forever.

    This band is a refreshing breakthrough on so many levels. A southern rock spirit that can not be passed off as revivalist of a genre, but rather a more intimate and current state of southern influences, ie: Wal mart, Dollar General, Baptism, Mud Bogging , Bar Hopping, and Friday Night Football, etc., The Irony of it is for so many decades the dominant market radio stations of these regions locked out all original and local bands to guarantee a solid commercial market through the advertising sales of a Classic Rock format. So now when a fresh and truly original southern rock band tries to get recognised for thier natural talents, playing at the local live band venue will get them little more than a few CD sales, and great memories, and a good time for those who don't get too drunk to remember it. These guy's Rock!!! Call your local Radio station and demand they play it.# I Want My Whiskey Myers!

      Unfortunately your local radio station unless you are very lucky to have one that does in house programming only plays whatever is sent to us by "the network" the networks only play what Nashville says to. In a lot of cases the station is gone now and its just a rack of equipment at a transmitter tower in a cow pasture. Is what I do for a living.

    I typically don't comment on any platform but @Whiskeymyers deserves WAY more recognition here. Well written and well played. Captures the southern spirit and culture. I particular love how you sewed together our American values that resonates with all of from from North to South, East and West. While it does speak to a Southern way of life, this resonates with so many of us as painting a picture of a country built on solid values. Values we are unwilling to waver on. Our founding values and principles of God, family and country. A country where we are to put God and TRUTH before all else. A country where we teach the next one in line to work hard, give back, honor and protect this land at all cost, thank our soldiers for their sacrifice and while family can be challenging-love them just the same...and for those of you just tuning into these guys...Listen to Broken Window Serenade. Once again, they've captured the struggle and the sadness and wrapped it in a bow. For this CT Yankee, I'm still listening and following. Hope to see y'all in person some day. I pray for continued success!

    I really love this song. Stumbled upon it while cruising You Tube and I am totally blown away by it. I am not from the South, I am not even an American. Being from The Netherlands I still relate to this song. I think because of what they sing about are such universal feelings. We have our traditions and roots too. I think every human being with an open mind and a love for music understands what this is about. Love for your family, for your traditions, for the memories you have from growing up. My grandma made pancakes too on Sundays, our Christmases where also filled with joy and laughter and we too sat on our porch and looked at the clouds finding ships and faces in them and were just plain happy growing up in peace and love. We also learned to respect all the people of this planet en were taught we are all brothers and sisters under the skin. 💕

      Yep, Iowa farm boy hear. My family has been here since they stepped off the boat back in the early 1800s. We lost the farm that our family lived on since the 1890s when the interstate highway came through and forced us out back in the early 1990s. Our roots ran deep there and I don't think anyone in the family has really gotten over losing the old place.
      While I have nothing against our fellow countryman from south of the Mason-Dixon, it sometimes gets a little annoying how they seem to think they're the only ones with pride in where they come from. It's not so much a southern thing as it is a country- rural thing.

    My 1st rifle was actually a 243 my dad gave to me when I was 13 this song really hits home awesome song. And he did teach me to shoot with a steady hand and I guess that is something some folks wouldn't understand, Its like Hank said, " we say Grace and we say amen and if you ain't in to that we don't give a damn."

      It is actually "we say grace and we say Ma'am and if you ain't into that then we don't give a damn.", but the concept is the same.

    Love this song but not the title. I'm from Northern California and I can relate to every part of this song. It's like southern people think their lifestyle is so much different than everyone else. Whether you're from the south, Midwest, southwest, west coast or east coast there's rural areas where we all live like this.

      I've lived all over this United States and the South is different and before you ask ive lived in California Washington Missouri Arkansas Florida Virginia and been everywhere inbetween. Us Southerns hang on to our traditions and culture where most places you bring up something over a month ago people forget. We dont. We remember and we will never forget our home our Southland and our heritage. Its our birthright. Its who we are from Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, to the hills we grew up in to the Stories we lived in there. It's sacred to us and Dixie is tattooed on our hearts. Not everyone understands that. If you do your uncommon in todays world and hats off to you.

    Bein from the south, I feel everything in this song. It is an anthem for us. Stars and bars forever. Do the work, get the pay. Ask for nothing. Eat what you hunt, eat what you fish. Nuthin more, nuthin less.

    My first rifle was a .243,
    Papa gave Daddy and Daddy gave to me,
    and they taught me how to shoot with a steady hand,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    Now I grew up on a prison farm,
    sneaking pulls of shine from a mason jar,
    used to go fishing out pickle creek dam,
    but I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    Grandmas in the kitchen;
    Papas drunk past dawn;
    We sit out on the front porch,
    Just a pickin’ on the songs;
    and there's blood on the table,
    cause we work for what we have;
    and I was raised in this land,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    I still fly that southern flag,
    whistling Dixieland enough to brag,
    and I know all the words to simple man,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    I pledge my allegiance the original way,
    say Merry Christmas not happy holidays,
    I can’t change my ways I know who I am,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    Grandmas in the kitchen;
    Papas drunk past dawn;
    we sit out on the front porch,
    just a pickin’ on the songs;
    and there's blood on the table,
    cause we work for what we have;
    and I was raised in this land,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    They'll grind us up in a big machine;
    They'll feed us all on the same beliefs,
    Holy dollar and a credit card;
    but we got a way of doing things,
    and no bankers gonna steal from me;
    they wanna tear it all apart.
    Grandmas in the kitchen;
    Papas done past on;
    we sit out on the front porch,
    just a pickin’ on the songs;
    and there's a bible on the table,
    cause he bleed for what we have,
    and that’s the ballad of a southern man,
    I guess that’s something you don't understand.
    My first rifle was a .243,
    Papa gave Daddy and Daddy gave to me.

    My first rifle was a Winchester model 70 featherweight in .243, my grandpa “papa” bought it in 1962 and passed it down from my uncle to my dad to my brother to me. Papa just passed away recently, this song hits differently now.

      I love living in Dixie land! Keep my door open living alone in case I don’t hear a knock, getting up in years. Sure wouldn’t want anyone stuck out in the cold or needing food. Son and grandson live next door and another good family on the other side, so I’m safe. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear anyway. Of course I lock the door at night to protect anyone who might try to break in, as local homes do get robbed in this area sometimes. Don’t want anyone to get shot and locals I love have keys. I’ve just become aged and small, so hope they keep choosing wisely LoL. GBU ~
