What really is the color of this 1972 Mercedes 350SL? Is it worth more in its original color?

    It's Mark Anderson here
I think that G tells you the paint manufacturer doesn't it. I think that they had two paint companies that they used.

That would sound right or single stage vs 2 stage?

@@jeffscars2713That would make sense. 2 stage being a paint coat and a clear coat ?

@@jeffscars2713if the single stage two stage involves clear coat on the two stage I have been told by a couple people they did a paint only up to 1976 ? 1986? And the color coat clear coat after that..I'm guessing the color matching the plate is going to appeal more to hard core Mercedes collectors. I'm guessing the most popular color is going to have the widest appeal to non Mercedes collectors. I'm betting red is more popular on an sl because it's a sporty car with a sporty color.

@@jeffscars2713 I may be totally wrong on this but I think that when I was looking at color explanations a number with a G behind it told you that it was 50G 50 bring white and G being white from supplier Glassurit the glass company and 50B was white from a paint company like ?Bayer?

@@jeffscars2713 I found this on Benz world
Your original paint code plate - after the 3-digit code should be a letter - usually "G" for BASF Glasurit..

@@TheTurbulators A lot of people painted them red as that was a popular color especially when the TV show Dallas came out. Thanks for the silver suggestion.
