How is it that when omnivores have health problems they never blame it on their diet, but if you're vegan all of a sudden it's all about what you eat?

    • @Mystro256
      @Mystro256 2 роки тому +19

My guess is that it's easy to cut out food, but hard to replace it with nuitrionally equivalent food, unless you can afford things like lots of mock meats. In north america diets, legumes are less common, so dropping meat means to also take up legumes, which you might not know how to cook with, or don't have a good taste for, or even you get gassy/bloating because your body isn't used to eating them; all of which leads to avoidance, and in turn, mild to severe protein deficiency or lack of satiation. There's also mild b12 deficiency, which I can vouch is not pleasant.

She clearly knows nothing about cows (beside so many other thinks she doesn't know...)
Cows have 4 stomachs, not 3 like she says. They need these not only for protein but also/mainly for fiber and carbs. Other animals with just one stomach that eat mainly grass (like horses) are perfectly able to digest protein in this stumach and the small intestine. For fiber and carbs they use the big instestine in a way a cow uses their rumen (first stomach). So yes, we only have one stomach, but no that's not the reason.
I always "love" these kind of reasoning, that makes no sense at all...
And her "one cow" theory. What does she think does this one cow eat? Most cows are not just standing around eating grass all day long. Where does she think the feed for the cow comes from, how it is harvested and how many animals have died for it? It is common knowledge how much resources we can save by eating plants instead of feeding them to animals to eat.
But well... Why do I even try to come up with scientific facts, she obviously doesn't care about sience... piece & love...

Yes, indeed, a cow will also consume plant foods that cost animal lives, and on top of that, so will the person consuming the cow! It's not like the choice is "one cow for a year" or "fruits and vegetables for a year" - the person living off that cow will also consume plants along with the meat, so the whole comparison makes no sense whatsoever. Directly consuming the plants ourselves reduces harm significantly, even if the "live off one cow a year" idea was realistic.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos disease and my doctor actually recommended I adopt a mostly plant based diet because a side effect of Hashimotos is a propensity for high cholesterol even on a moderately healthy, animal product diet. Many of the issues she listed as a result of being vegan and a woman are common to Hashimotos disease and yet, along with medication one of the best things to do to manage severe long term symptoms is to adopt a plant based diet. And these recommendations aren’t even coming from vegan doctors! The blanket statements provided by this women are actually very sad given that many people experience the symptoms she lists, and instead of seeking medical advice and diagnosis, they delay treatment by attributing their illness to diet, thus entering into a cycle of self treatment and continued illness. Being told that what you are experiencing is caused by what you are eating, changing your diet, and still experiencing symptoms can really take a toll on self esteem and mental health. Thank you for providing commentary on this video, hopefully it can help others seek actual medical treatment for symptoms that may be linked to an actual illness, and still feel comfortable living a vegan lifestyle!

That cow argument is hilarious, considering the reason for not being able to digest cellulose is enzymatic, not mechanical digestion. Also wanted to throw in some nuance about raw milk. Generally not good when considering whole risk/reward (more bacteria does not mean better and there is a public health reason why we pasteurize...it's not Big Milk), but raw is the only truly local and grass fed source for me and I use it for yogurt (which kills many - not all of the harmful strains). P.s. I'd love more guidance on making vegan yogurt - the recipes I've tried never turn out thick enough.

This is infuriating! When I was trying to conceive my first baby, having irregular and long cycles + acne (so PCOS) I stumbled across so much content like that ... telling women in my situation that they NEEDED animal fat (but not dairy, which was described as poison, literally), that they couldn't possibly "heal their hormones" (whatever that means) being plant based and that they had to take a bunch of herbal suplements. And go keto.
Well I got pregnant twice quite easily, being vegetarian, almost vegan, not at all keto, and taking the one suppement that's actually prescribed by doctors for this condition (myo inositol). Guess my hormones healed magically. This type of content makes me so mad!

She has other very good videos en PCOS.
I have the "lean PCOS" phenotype (maybe cause I'm mainly plant based?) and so the advice on keto to lose weight was useless to me. Every PCOS case is different but to give you hope, most women who dont't have other fertility issue end up pregnant, sometimes with the help of simple ovulation induction. This is anecdote bu for me, it took seven months to conceive my son (which was only 4 cycles actually) just with myo inositol (+ a prenatal ans B12!) and this time (I'm 15 weeks pregnant) it took ..... one cycle (given I had been taking myo inositol for 3 months before that).

If you think eating a cow saves other animals lives like squirrels you are kind of wrong. The amount of food a cow needs is more then a little pasture. So either you rotate your one cow (poor thing, all alone) across massive patches of land, or you farm hay and grow corn/soy to supplement the diet, at least during winter. The amount of harm the farming of hay and corn does is massive, and keeping a one cow displaces a lot of land for your squirrel friends (cows don’t graze on trees after all). The conversion of vegetable kcal to meat/dairy kcal is very poor. So if you need 2000 kcal a day, getting it from the cow takes up way more land then getting it from plants. Not to mention how a cow that is used for food probably leads a more confined and worse life than a wild squirrel. I grew up on a farm, and am not vegan. But this woman knows nothing of what it takes to raise cattle.

My response to the people who say the vegan diet failed them, that is fine, but they need to move on and stop making grandiose claims about veganism being deplorable. There is actually a channel that loves the attack on the looks of all vegans. She will look for the worst freeze frames in videos and say look how sunken the eyes are and basically trashes the appearance of anyone who is vegan. Apparently, veganism did not work for her, so now she is picking apart anyone who is vegan. As a rangeland ecologist, I'm here to confirm that cattle eat different vegetables and have different physiology for a reason. Even when you compare other ruminant and ungulate animals, they all differ from eachother because they specialize in eating certain vegetation types to fulfill a certain niche in their environment. Deer don't digest the way cattle do, yet they are clearly meant to be herbivores. Cattle are ruminant and have some thiccc coeloms to eat grasses, which are very high in cellulose. Cellulose is a large molecule that is difficult to break down and only certain microbes are capable of doing it, hence the ruminant bacteria. Since grass doesn't have a woody stalk, the cellulose helps to provide structure to the plant. Deer, other herbivores, and humans eat more "leafy' vegetation. Forbes and other broad leaved plants have more "woody" tissue in the stems often containing high amounts of lignin, abother large and tough molecule to digest. That is why we dobt eat much for stems of plants. We pretty much exclusively eat leaves, roots, and fruits of plants. That way we eat the plant tissue with better nutritional bioavailability, and no longer require the usage (and extra energy expendature) on more complex digestive systems. It has NOTHING to do with humans not being able to eat plants and be nourished by them.
    Edit:
My older sister is a dietician and while she is not vegan, she 100% endorses that a vegan diet is perfect fine and perfectly healthy for humans to live off of permanently if you're making sure to hit your nutrient requirements like supplementing B12.
I would also like to point out that grazing IS indeed actually really important for our prairielands. Temperate grasslands are the world's most endangered ecosystem and grazing is a big part of it. The difference is, we are WAY overconsuming meat to a point where grazing is being forced into ecosystems not suited for it, and the land that is suited for it is being very over grazed which also causes a lot of prairieland damage. Too much of a good thing is often a bad thing, same goes for grazing. But yes, grazing is actually indeed extremely important to ecosystem balance in the great plains ONLY WHEN it is managed properly and not overdone.

Does she not know that with proper planning you can follow a high quality protein, low fiber vegan diet? She seems to think that veganism is one diet, whereas in practice you can have two completely different diets, the only similarity being the lack of animal products. Now I'm sure that the most common trait of ex-vegans is just not planning right and not being bothered to even try. I always try to sympathize with people who struggle following a vegan diet, whether it be family pressure or events, but this one ain't it.

Studies do show that intermittent fasting is more beneficial for men than women, specifically, that it is dangerous for women to pass the 12 hr mark of fasting as habit. The exception to this would be in sporadic 24-72 hr fasting which holds the benefits of fasting like autophagy and digestive pause, without burdening the endocrine system, also because it has been shown that hourly increase, beyond 12 hrs causes an escalating spike in blood sugar not seen in men.
One thing that I have noticed in being Vegetarian for 17 years (mostly whole plant food) and a person with gut issues and who has corrected hormonal imbalances and disordered eating patterns is that there are co-factors in animal products that can be essential for some ppl, which Veganism doesn't advocate for, like Carnatine, Creatine, and Choline; all of which I supplement with (vegan sourced) to optimize my metabolic and microbiome health.
The other thing that I think gets missed in the optimism of beginners Veganism is that our bodies take time to unveil their shortcomings, and it has been helpful to me, to occasionally eat, specifically, Eggs, because there seems to be a deeper level of satiation/ bioavailable nutrition that my body sporadically craves and benefits from on an integral level. Personally, I try to buy clearance non-vegan products (I limit or avoid animal products), because I do hate the industry, but my advocacy lies in legislative change to overthrow Factory Farming, and not in authoritative Veganism.
I will also say that I don't understand the hate on Homesteaders, which is, imo, the correct direction away from FF and outside of Tyrannical efforts.
