7:40 about the longer endings: The original Tekken Tag Tournament for Arcade ran on a modified PlayStation 1 board. Similar to how the arcade version of Soul Calibur did. Therefore, when the game got ported to the PlayStation 2, again, similar to how Soul Calibur got a graphical boost when ported to the Sega Dreamcast, so too did Tekken Tag Tournament, but.... unlike the limited disc space a Sega Dreamcast game had due the console using CD based software, the Playstation 2 has the ability to run DVD discs. However, because TTT was an arcade port, they simply didn't bother moving said game to an actual DVD....so the PS2 version of TTT despite having improved graphics, was still on a CD format. This means the disc space was limited. Has this game been put on an actual DVD, there would have been way more than enough room to add other things like longer endings or even full FMV ones. I mean, they added the Tekken Bowl so there already was that. And in the PS3 remastered rerelease of TTT, notice it not only had another game thrown in there, but a whole movie on top of that. And look at all the stuff they were able to cram into Tekken 5: three unlockable arcade titles, and a whole action RPG mode Devil Within. So yeah they could have added more but I feel they rushed it out in favor of timing it for the launch release of the PS2, while a game like Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore felt more refined in that sense due to the fact Hardcore was already the third installment of DoA2, as the original DoA2 was actually rushed out for the Dreamcast. Itagaki was tricked into lending out a beta copy to a higher up producer at Namco who said his son wanted to try it then he went and had the game release off that beta which pissed Itagaki off so they reconciled later with the JPN only Limited Edition release also on Dreamcast, and then an even more updated release aka Hardcore, on PS2.
This makes sense. It was one of the first games I got shortly after the PS2 launch. You just reminded me of the early purple PS2 discs before they were made on DVDs.
@@shadosassins And now that last week I finally bought an MX4SIO memory card for PS2 which alongside it's FMCB memory card loader, it's been a royal pain in the ass to get all those early PS2 purple disc games to run on them as I have to individually convert them all (which are CD based Bin and Cue files) to DVD Issue so that they can run off either them to SD or USB flash drives I put them on. Not to mention my original TTT disc doesn't even like to run properly due to old age and it's CD format being more inclined to ruin than the much more sturdy PS2 DVDs. I notice this can also be a problem with old GameCube games with their disc decay because Nintendo really didn't want to adhere to proper DVD technology so they made their own type which was inferior.. I still have yet to test out this one TTT file it's a 2.00 file vs the standard 1.00. I'm guessing it was a Greatest Hits version or something? Or an updated release via wonder if there was any differences..🤔
I still get goosebumps when the Embu theme plays showcasing a variety of characters Martial arts regiment routine. I also did not want to give up the controller when taking turns playing with my cousins , thus each lose I would take it to heart LOL. Tekken Tag 1 is comfort. Always smile when playing it casually
The reason you "misremembered" what T3 looked like compared to what TTT1 looked like, is because the arcade version was actually an upgraded version of T3 with the same graphics. It just added T2 characters and of course the tag function.
Tekken Tag 1 just has that vibe that I can't help but love. It is pretty much an update of Tekken 3, sure, but it just has that signature early PS2 feel with the graphics and soundtrack. And it is REALLY cool to know that Heihachi's stage is actually the rubble remains of what transpired in Jin's ending in Tekken 3. That's a really great detail.
You ever had something but had to wait until you could play with it, I had that with tekken tag, I was on a summerholiday with family, the fist day on the road we stopped at a store and they had a ps2 version of tekken tag so i bought it, i remember my mom saying, why did you buy this you won't beable to play it for another 2 weeks, its a waste of your money that you saved up for the holiday, i think i was 12 at the time And for 2 weeks i read the book that came with it and imagine playing the game such a great memory such a great game i played it alot with my neighbourhood friends
Man! You just took me back to when you had to read the game manuals. I use to draw the pictures in the Tekken books because they always had full character models.
You hit the nail on the head and put the icing on the cake by ending the video with the closing credits theme. (Personally have the song set as my ringtone) This game was perfect. I would, “in the age of nickel and diming gamers,” gladly pay for a remaster of this.
Homie Phenomenal Video!! From the get go I was like "A Tekken AllStar Game?...Yeah....That's EXACTLY what it was like!! I have the most insane memories with this game!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🎮🎮
My opinion exactly. I dont think its the "best" Tekken, but its definitely my "favorite" for sll the reasons you've listed. I still remember being SHOCKED when I walked into the arcade and saw this game. I thought I was looking at Tekken 3 until I saw Armor King, with actual shiny armor, on screen doing a tag throw! The hype was too much as someone who loved both T2 and T3
Tag 1 was amazing and top 3 fighters at the time. But lets be honest anyone who played Soul Calibur 1 knew it dominated the 3D fighting genre until the 2nd and then tekken 5 which is a literal masterpiece of fun.
Tag 1 has beefier hit boxes so moves like Mishima flash punch combos whiffed less and to make oki more dynamic as tech rolls became easier. Oh and you can roll while face down.
Kuma and King I weren't in the game, tho I could see why they weren't added. Marshall Law on the other hand..they could easily have added his T2 version even the voice so it's somewhat different for Forest.
Nice video man. My only gripe with the game, excluding the uhhh "balancing", is the compressed audio files. Tekken 2 had crystal clear audio, T3 had this compressed fuzzy quality to it. This continued with Tag 1, with some Tekken 2 characters suffering this same effect. Bruce has his normal voice, Kazuya has this annoying sped up and fuzzy voice, as does Jack 2 and others. Otherwise, that's how good this game was. I really liked the art direction to, it's very much 90s Tekken style, before the T4 anime overhaul
You can still totally play a version of Tag1 that looks just like Tekken 3 if you desire it. Look for the arcade version. I emulated it and streamed it once. Same engine, I believe... but the part that sucks about it is you will not have the arranged version of the soundtrack like the one that its defaulted to on the PS2. Really, just seeing the Tekken 2 characters in Teklen 3s style is an actual treat. You can at least find videos on UA-cam if you don't emulate.
That makes sense. I completely forgot that the arcade version looked different. Now you've made me want to find the arcade version. Haven't played it in years.
I liked tag1 because it was simple, its tekken with a 2 fighter system. tag2 is technically better due to overall appeal, its got tons of stages, all the characters you want and more, soundtracks from previous games, great music for its own soundtrack and a better version of unknown with better explanation for who she is. my biggest gripe with that game though was that its too hard. tag2 was all about juggling, players that have mastered the game can juggle you from beginning to end due to the games mechanics. every move in that game sends you bouncing from the ground like a basketball, making juggling easy for pro gamers. tag 2 was definitely not casual friendly , tag1 however was a causal friendly game.
@@shadosassins You are absolutely right! I feel silly, because I had already watched your Tekken 4 video, and am subscribed, but did not connect the two. Thank you for making such great content about Tekken, in particular

Tag 1 is definitely my favorite game from the older ones, you can use T2 characters in T3 gameplay, like a big celebration of the original trilogy.
It’s my favorite Tekken. I still play it.
that was so cool
TTT graphics were insane!
Still holds up to this day! 🔥
I got this game when i got a PS2 in 2001. one of the greatest games of all time. and that intro movie is unforgettable!

We got shafted with the slower gameplay in PAL regions 😭

Someone else mentioned the same thing. It's been so long I forgot what the arcade version looked like. Now I gotta find an arcade version ASAP.

Tekken 5 ps2 version is my second favourite

That detail of Heihachi's stage is incredible considering the game itself isn't canon. They still cared about the story anyway.
@ always am a sucker for stage detailing like that since I always did find stages to be a very underrated aspect of fighting games.
TT1 will forever be my favourite Tekken game, it holds a special place in my heart. Graphically, it still holds up pretty well :D

Might have the best soundtrack as well
Tekken Tag definitely had some classics in its OST.
This is my first Tekken game and man I wish they didn’t add all the come back mechanics
My thing is, just pick one comeback mechanic if you're going to add one at all. Tekken 8 feels like it has 5 of them.
I wish they'd put tag 1 on steam but Harada's dumb ass doesn't want to
🤣 Steam, Live, PSN, something....

TTT1 is the best, Easy to understand and not so mess up system.
A much simpler time in Tekken.
I played tekken tag tournament more than any other game on the ps2. Maybe even more than any other game period. Still my favorite fighting game.

Rolling while face down. Such a small detail that went a long way.
