Especially Tekken 4, developers did a lot of things incredibly right, most storylines were incredibly cool and the atmosphere and seriousness was just on a another level. I don't think most would disagree that Tekken 4 had a great"everything-except-the-fighting" to it. Great and Epic soundtracks, unique character designs, good individual stories, and an interesting main Mishima arc revival. The thing is that it's still a fighting game and no matter how great everything else is, if the fighting bit is flawed it'll overshadow the positives. Tekken 4 is sourly the most unique and underrated (mostly because of the choices that hindered the competitive scene) but it is my favorite Tekken to date, because of the very seriousness Vibes of the Story aspects perspective. The seriousness atmosphere of Tekken 4 it's on another level in my opinion. The soundtrack is what gets me the most next to the game's atmosphere. Rage arts in T7 Ruined the game for me. even the rage drive felt like you at least had to earn it and use it wisely. comeback mechanics take out any skill needed inherently. T7 and T8 are heavily focused on flow chart combos and obnoxious ragdoll physics. i hardly bother playing online anymore, not because i can't win, it just is not a fun game anymore just keep doing the same optimized combos over and over. i know "juggling" was in early tekkens. never this egregious though. in T3 you might get a 4hit juggle (also tekken 3 online on pc is a thing worth checking out). tekken 4 gets hate for the wall infinites, honestly if it was on the ps3 it would have been patched. T1 is rough as is street fighter 1 or mk1 or any other first in a series for older fighting games especially. tekken 2 is a huge step up but t3 is the most refined version of the 3. and T5 feels like the Definitive Tekken Experience. it has the refined smooth gameplay of t1-3 with lessons learned from 4, we got a huge roster as a direct result to t4 heavily criticized for a small roster. on the other side we got TTT1 which is a dream match up game, the mechanics are fun and not overwhelming like some other tag games can be. its just alot of fun. TTT2 was in the same boat. personally ttt2 is a little worse, i think they needed to make the health pool much bigger etc. the heat system i believe first showed here. i actually liked T6 ALOT, i liked the longer story mode and actual storyline (for the first time in tekken really). felt alot like tekken 5 HD as far as the actual gameplay.
I remember when I was a kid I got devil Jin right after I beat Asuka's story so for more than a decade I believed you get him after beating the game with Asuka because he loses to Jinpachi in the cut-scene
Too bad Tekken stopped being Tekken around 7. Started having Key and Peele skit sounding dubstep crap as an ost, no atmosphere, unfitting guest characters, lazy story, and just cares about selling out to the mainstream when it can be itself and be mainstream being genuine.
Man I love some of the dubstep in 7 😭 but definitely gameplay-wise that shit was fucked up ever since they added Leroy. I'd argue it stopped being Tekken around 6 - Jin going on a killing spree just seemed to come out of nowhere.
I can definitely appreciate what they tried to do with Tekken 4, and it still stands up there as one of my favorite titles in the series along with Tekken 5. T5 was the last game in the franchise that felt like "pure Tekken" to me before they really crossed over into the overload area of the series: More characters, more combos, more flash........stuff that took away from the essence of what Tekken was, and you could definitely feel it looking at both T5 and T6 side by side.
Tekken 4 felt like Def Jam Vendetta when it was out. Idk why or if that even makes sense lol. It was more mature and I've gained a newfound appreciation for the game over the years, but at the time I couldn't help but find that mellow atmospheric approach boring and strange, especially as a kid coming from Tekken 3/Tag's energetic 'larger than life' vibe. TK4's endings were mostly lore rich and serious but also awkward while not holding up to the standard that TK3 established with their CG at the time. Some design changes just didn't land for me either. Everything about Tekken 5 felt, sounded and looked more like an updated TK3 even down to the logo which is why I think its held in high regard. IMO both of those games had the perfect blend of eastern and western influence.
for me personally- tekken 4 = okay, i like what your going for here tekken 5 = just a solid good time tekken 6 = ngl kinda my favorite- why the hell is there not a port for it on modern consoles?! tekken tag 2 = probably the best in the series? peak imo tekken 7 = alright, pretty solid- story is trash though tekken 8 = really starting to deviate from the core gameplay too much imo- story is trash just my two cents anyway

I remember when my local arcade got a brand new Vanilla Tekken 5 cabinet on release. Playing a fighting game in arcades in anticipation to it's console port is an experience that I actually kinda miss now. It was definitely an attempt at a "return to form" for the series. I never really played Dark Resurrection much but it was a much needed patch. Vanilla 5 was broken beyond belief though. The PS2 port had SO MUCH content too. Replayability was insane.

7 onwards I really don’t miss with inclusions like Akuma, Celum , Negan And others . They made akuma canon and he isn’t even mentioned in 8 I believe . These guest characters only appeal to fans of those franchises . No other . Any guy who has played Paul, Jin Law Feng Steve King etc and is not a Final Fantasy fan will always view them as cheap cash grab strategies to disregard the characters they love for these guests . Final Fantasy characters are just not Tekken like characters. They have these long range teleportation and weapons appearing out of nowhere . I am a DMC fan but I’ll never say Dante should appear in Tekken , in a non canon spinoff , maybe , but never a canon game. Dante simply isn’t for tekken with all his weapons and styles. Even if they go for guest , even though there is no need for that, they should go for characters whose main focus is hand to hand combat like Yakuza characters, or those from Virtua Fighter . Not those game breakers like projectile spammers like Akuma or these final fantasy guys .
Agreed. I'm not a Final Fantasy player so there are now 2 DLC characters in Tekken that I haven't cared about. I feel like there are too many fan favorite characters missing in these fighting games to have so many guest characters.
Tekken Tag was great, not much different compared to Tekken 3, but Tekken 4 sucked. They made Tekken 5 very good, but I think still Tekken 3 and Tag are the best tekkens, then 7 and 5.
I agree about Tekken Tag. I'm amazed at how much a game from 1999 still holds up to this day. The graphics are even better than some modern mobile games.

LMAO. I love the stage, but I get what you mean. There are alot of things people feel like they are "suppose" to like. The car analogy killed me though.
In terms of gameplay 3 and 5 is the best. After that Tekken is dead for me. In terms of atmosphere Tekken 4 really shines. I would give a lot to have another Tekken game with such a grim and dark design.
I disagree (respectfully), with most players, with Harada (who is not the father of Tekken) and with this material at many points. 'The Devil Within' mode is a great metaphor for the direction this series took. They seriously thought they were doing something better than T4 Force Mode. More is not always better, not in every game genre. The only exception I see are racing games, maybe open world titles sometimes, but not always. Most often "more" means: clumsier, less interesting, with decreased quality. This is what happened to Tekken 5, and even more so to its successors (led us to the Negans, Noctis, Lucky Chloes, Gigas, and more...). Almost all players who played the most Tekken 2 and 3 understand this. The overload of characters in Tekken bothers me to this day. Less attention was paid to character development or animation, general design and motion capture than even in (the best iteration in the series) Tekken 3. The music in Tekken 5 is generic and could fit into any arcade game, the graphics (most importantly: art direction) are weaker, costumes are not so good, some attacks looks dumb, the arenas are incosistent to the feel of the whole. Tekken 5 saved sales, but in the long term probably killed the series. It was necessary to develop creatively what Tekken 3 and 4 started, we would have a truly next-gen Tekken without these absurd flashes and cheap effects. Not everything went wrong (Asuka! Feng!, Dragunov! Intro!), and, of course I like Tekken 5 (because it's still Tekken), I only think that this game just not as good as everyone thinks ;) The tournament "scene" has no meaning or sense for me. I have my own opinion and feelings, sorry for writing so much. Merry Christmas! Post Scriptum: Beak Doo San is probably the worst character redesign in fighting game history, it gets boring after a few minutes of playing...
I understand. I agree that Tekken 5 started the current direction of the series, I just personally feel like Tekken 6 is more guilty of these issues than Tekken 5. My hope was that Namco would find a balance between T4 and T5 and instead they did whatever T6, TT2, and T7 were. Character designs in 5 weren't as bad as they were in 6 and whatever 7 was. Thanks for sharing. And Merry Christmas to you too.
Even though I love and have a soft spot for Tekken 5, I definitely see what you mean. T5 really kicked off some of the "bloat" and anime cheesiness (and I say this as an anime fan) that the later titles would double down on, although I feel like it had a pretty good balance of it. Like, despite all of that it still felt "Tekken-ish", if that makes any sense? Lol but I will say I do miss the gritty yet ethereal martial arts movie vibe of the early Tekkens and they definitely need to go back to that.
This has to be the worst take I have ever read in my entire life (and that's saying something) I have played every tekken game (started playing for real in tag 1 in arcades) and t5 was the best thing to happen to the series. I played t4 just because it was new and after a couple months went back to tag 1 with the entire archive following me. Blaming guest chars showing up and Chloe and gigas on 5 is silly when soul calibur 4 the one that started the guest character thing and guest characters never going away because casuals love that stuff (I don't see real issues with gigaa or Chloe but hey I hate hei but he keeps showing back up"

Agreed. I'm not a Final Fantasy player so there are now 2 DLC characters in Tekken that I haven't cared about. I feel like there are too many fan favorite characters missing in these fighting games to have so many guest characters.
Actually Devil Jin is playable in TTT it’s weird but it’s just his omen stance that is OP as well.
Wait, he was actually in Tekken Tag 1?
TTT jin is tekken 3 jin meaning it's devil jin
5DR is peak, we all know this
That is incredible that the PSP release got one of the most amazing Tekken's of all time.
Tekken 5 is the goat
I thought you could unlock doctor B. in tag for bowling a perfect game My nephew kinda wasted his time doing that.
I think Dr. B was in Tag. I don't remember at the moment.
@@shadosassins tekken bowl
Tekken Tag was great, not much different compared to Tekken 3, but Tekken 4 sucked. They made Tekken 5 very good, but I think still Tekken 3 and Tag are the best tekkens, then 7 and 5.
I agree about Tekken Tag. I'm amazed at how much a game from 1999 still holds up to this day. The graphics are even better than some modern mobile games.
I find on emulation if you play tekken 4 at a faster speed then thats what it was meant to be :)
At least Tekken 4 is better than Tekken 6 and forward
Tekken 4 and 5 are my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. ☯️ By the way Tekken 4 had the best story and atmosphere no doubt. Also my favourite Tekken Intros of the series are 4 and 5. With soundtracks like: Fetus(Prologue), Authentic Sky, Unihabited(Mall Area) Didgerhythm(Jungle Area) Touch and Go(Airport Area) and Kitsch(Beach Area) and The Inner Shrine(Hon-Maru Temple) and others soundtracks, For me Tekken 4 remains even in these days the most Unique Tekken game of the series. ☯️ 🤷🏻♂️
Tekken 4 is still the most innovative & favorite Tekken to date for me, maybe it’s sentimental I love that game 🤷🏽♂️
TO EVERYBODY THAT HATE TEKKEN 8 , TEKKEN 5 DR KNOWN AS THE BEST TEKKEN GAME EVER IS PLAYABLE ONLINE ON PC !
I feel people glaze moonlight wilderness just because other like it,kinda like to be a “car” guy you have to act like you like hatchbacks and wagons lol ugly mess it was just average to me… music was epic though
LMAO. I love the stage, but I get what you mean. There are alot of things people feel like they are "suppose" to like. The car analogy killed me though.
Just like Snow Castle in T5DR. Great track but it became "the cool thing to love" within the fanbase.
Tekken 5 hands down greatest game in the series Tekken 4 was miss step less characters gameplay feel slow feels way too tight
In terms of gameplay 3 and 5 is the best. After that Tekken is dead for me. In terms of atmosphere Tekken 4 really shines. I would give a lot to have another Tekken game with such a grim and dark design.
Tekken 4 also felt kind of REAL. At least real enough for Tekken. Tekken 6 felt kind of all over the place.
Tekken 4 was basically Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha
Another game that I loved as a kid. 😆
3:15 my girl
I was never the same after I saw her render the first time. 😂
@Beforezzz her ending got me lol
Lol but I will say I do miss the gritty yet ethereal martial arts movie vibe of the early Tekkens and they definitely need to go back to that.
my brother u trippen tekken 5 was clean asl how dare you diss the glorious ost 😭😭😭
Blaming guest chars showing up and Chloe and gigas on 5 is silly when soul calibur 4 the one that started the guest character thing and guest characters never going away because casuals love that stuff (I don't see real issues with gigaa or Chloe but hey I hate hei but he keeps showing back up"
Worst take ever, your take for the ost is cap, this means you music taste ist crap
Tekken 5 feels cheep with 3 Arcade Ports with No endings in any of them & had only 6 good Soundtracks as for Tekken 3 Namco token out Michelle, Jun & Kunimitsu thats a Big No,No 😧😑
They at least tried to replace Michelle. They waited forever for Jun and did nothing for Kunimitsu. I guess they thought Yoshi was enough.
@@shadosassins this is just my opinion though (^w^)
Tekken 5 jin is weak and slow compared to other the characters
After t4, never liked t5 and never will. Such an step back
he lost me when he started talking about "menu music" and "dark tone".....i was looking for gameplay and balance and he started talking about aesthetics and trivial $h1t 👎
Tekken 4 look like Doa5, And Tekken 5 look like trash Street fighter 😂
