The Other Time EA Failed to Reboot a Franchise (Medal of Honor/Battlefront Retrospective)

This video serves as a brief history of EA's Medal of Honor and Battlefront games, an analysis of why these two FPS reboots failed, and a review of MoH: Warfighter.
The only gameplay in this video that is my own is the MoH: Warfighter and MoH: Airborne campaign gameplay.
I have not played every game I talked about in this video. The games I have played (in order of release date) are :

Please play MOH 2010. It has an unparalleled feeling of authenticity, and is actually a historical game like the previous ones. It's set in 2003 and tells the real world story of operations around Bagran airfield, making it the only game I can think of set in recent events. After the first few missions, it becomes one continuous story with absolutely minimal time jumps. It settles on focusing on the soldiers themselves rather than the terrorist plot in a Band of Brothers-type arc. There's no BS with the families or anything, just the origin of the general from BF3 pulling the strings whether the main characters like it or not. We see him every few missions rather than between every single one. Overall, the game just gets out of it's own way to tell the part of this historical story it wants to. I can't recommend it enough
Never played warfighter but I absolutely love the 2010 release.
Yea, me too. The multiplayer was a lot of fun. It had this semi close quarters feel to it without encouraging run and gun behavior.

For what its worth, I did enjoy MoH 2010 quite a bit. The campaign was alright, some of the set-piece stuff was cool like waves of insurgents attacking you from all sides or attacking that airfield or the helicopter mission. The multiplayer wasn't super terrible either, it had "kill streaks" and some memorable maps. The MP also had a gamemode that was more or less Rush, where the objectives varied like "defend the crashed helicopter" to "clear the roadblock for the APC" which was interesting. The maps in particular looked really good, particularly Shahikot Mountains where the backgrounds really made the mountains seem immense and made it appear like you are fighting your way through them. The game seemed very atmospheric to me.
Warfighter was kind of fucking trash though, IMO. I honestly can't remember any missions in it besides the car mission and final mission (albeit just for the historical event it was kinda based off). At least Linkin Park made alrightish songs for these games. Unfortunately as you know, EA is making ANOTHER Medal of Honor game with this one being VR so that's a big OOF already.
I remember that mountain mission: the Morning already came but the mountains were blocking the light. Really beautiful.
Here's a little trivia:
#1. Medal of Honor 2010 was going to be called "Medal of Honor: Operation Anaconda", which makes sense seeing how it's based on the Battle of Roberts Ridge, which took place during said events. They changed it to just "Medal of Honor" out of respect for the people who died during said incursion.
#2. The PlayStation 3 Limited/Tier 1 version came with a port of Medal of Honor: Frontline, which is considered one of the best games in the series. IMO, if you're going to play MoH '10, do it on PS3, as not only is it pretty cheap, but the "two games for the price of one" thing makes it a STEAL on that platform (Though it would've been better if they also ported either Rising Sun or European Assault as well).
Finally, #3. The end credits of Medal of Honor roll to the song "The Catalyst" by Linkin Park, taken off their album A Thousand Suns. This is because not only is it a natural fit (being a song about the horrors of war), but the band themselves are avid gamers, so they allowed the use of said song in both MoH '10 and the fighting game Gundam Extreme Vs. Band member Joe Hahn went as far as to edit the launch trailer for the game. That last bit might be the best-known thing about this game, to be honest...

I also want to say that I did very much enjoy some of these games such as MOH 2010 and MOH:W. It’s shame it died early and I’m also playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 at the moment and I think it’s wonderful with the new revamped system after the controversy. I hope the Star Wars franchise won’t die soon.

You failed hard when you said you didnt play MoH 2010. Really, the campaign of that game is very cool, its not cliche, good gameplay, awesome soundtrack and stunning graphics.
It still has the best explosion sounds I have ever heard on a game (only in the campaign, the online is literally another game with another engine, looks more like Bad Company)

I know this is an old vid but my guess is that we will get Battlefield 5 on the next gen consoles and it will be a modern day military shooter in 2020 like we got on the ps4 and xbox one when they released. You have earned a sub by the way good video.
Battlefront 2 is actually doing way better now. They’re constantly updating the game especially adding new characters and maps.
The thing I hate is how people still neglect the game because of its past even though its really good now
Moh 2010 one of my favorite srory modes up do date just cause of how grounded in reality it was and how practical it was into real world special operations and based some real seal, ranger events that happened in real life which makes it kinda emotional especially when rabbit died. Second one went away from that.
What would they add to battlefront 3?
They won't make a battlefront 3. The game gets updated every month, also the games actually good now.

The MoH 2010 Multiplayer was so damn good. It was a little bit like Battlefield, but it still fit me more somehow, i dont know why. I was so addiceted to it at its time. It would have been better if they keep the focus for BF on the MP and MoH would be a Singleplayer only game, but with a damn good story and long playtime. To bad the franchise is dead. :(

the launch may been rough but they made a good comeback similar to battlefield 4
I think after being supported through 2020 with more updates they will drop a new battlefield late 2020 or 2021 and then battlefront 3

To be honest, Battlefront series is actually not a failure anymore
EA used to make some of my favorite games, (Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline, and 1, and various need for speed games) they have been on a downhill for a while, but now I am never interested in the new nfs games and have barely played bf5.
Its really sad that Warfighter was botched. I've only played the very first MoH and Warfighter but I really did enjoy what it was trying to do. It felt like a first draft of the Modern Warfare reboot

Never tried any MoH, either.
They removed the lootboxes and reworked the game, added a bunch of free content like heroes and maps. Honestly it's similar to BF4 (it sucked at launch but with care and the devs listening to the community it thrived)

It's a shame too because if there's one thing MOH has over all the other shooters is that it had heart. It tired to really honor these elite warriors that we have.
Warfighter was such a garbage game. I stopped playing after like 3 hours max. And I was 15 at that time. Even my 15 year old ass couldn't stand that shit , on the other hand the 2010 game was good. I liked the campaign (good for one playthrough nothing more though) and sunk and few days into multiplayer at age 13. So one can imagine how much better the first reboot game was. Great video pal!
