    Hi Jonathan, thanks for the update! I was wondering myself why it seems the Russians lack strength all of a sudden.
    My gut tells me Ukraine is pushing harder because they either have more material and/or are willing to put more material in action since there is more on the way.
    Looking at the hits and losses from Andrew of the last couple of days, we see more multiple launch rocket systems are damaged or destroyed and the same goes for Bradleys and occasional Abrams, which could underline this thought. I could be totally wrong of course. Just sharing my thoughts: total amateur here.
    Another thought that came to mind, is that Russia has pulled out troops from other sections of the front to muster a new attack force in the Donbas region. It would be very difficult for Ukraine to take advantage of weakened sections in the Russian front (after poking and locating these weakenesses) for the next two months (so I think). And I am slightly worried those 20k troops will not attack in the North (Sumy), but might join the East front to regain the momentum.
    A slightly paranoid and a “prepare for the worst, hope for the best” Dutchman.
    Cheers, Rick

  • @davemcalister9209
    @davemcalister9209 15 днів тому +4

    I wouldn't be too worried about the Russians taking a half dozen villages just over the border, I'm guessing that the Ukrainians (taking into account that they are not allowed to attack Russians on their own side), are both expecting this AND have made these areas a 'kill zone'. This would be good tactics and I'm sure the home team have planned for this.

    • @John_shepard
      @John_shepard 15 днів тому

      Kill zones require fortifications. You slow down and herd the enemy into areas that are predetermined and sighted in. Lack of mines and fortifications allowed them full movement. This is the result of corruption and now they had to rush a lot of equipment to this front.

    • @davemcalister9209
      @davemcalister9209 15 днів тому +1

      @@John_shepard Its my understanding that the Ukrainian border defense were initially deployed and tasked with slowing the advance down. They achieved this and slowly withdrew to more 'fortified' areas (Hlyboke, luk'yantsi and Zelene on one front ... and Vovchans'k on the other). These area, it appears have been set up as Ukraine's first layer of defense. From these poitions they should be able to stop the advance and eliminate those troops that have been lured into the trap. The areas that the Russians have advanced into provide little to no cover and will be difficult to defend. Lets see heh?

    I'm not well up on Starlink tech but I don't understand the WSJ article about Starlink failure affecting drones
    I thought that to use Starlink you need a station which has a sizable antenna etc. I can't see this being used on a drone unless it's pretty large (so winged type and not copter type)

      Ukraine are still trying to sort out the corruption left over from decades of Russian rule. They are making progress but it’s going to take a while I would think. It’s a big hurdle toward EU membership, but there are international advisors and staff for transparency guiding things. That what the Maidan was about, the “revolution of dignity”.

      @@loudtim265characterizing ukraine’s political culture of graft and deep, systemic problems with institutional corruption as merely an exogenous residue of russian rule 30+ years after the collapse of the soviet union strikes me as kind of ridiculous. and public grievances about corruption were only one dimension of the heterogenous and divisive maidan uprising of 2014 (which was initially sparked by a series of facebook posts by a (iirc) photographer who had completely misunderstood what transpired with yanukovych and the proposed eu partnership agreement-that is, the eu offered ukraine an untenably draconian austerity program with insultingly paltry economic benefits. had yanukovych signed on to the eu deal it would have been a disaster for the ukrainian economy. but his balking at the eu’s offer was decried by pro-western ngos, US-funded astroturf “activists”, and russophobic ukrainian nationalist as a flouting of popular democratic sentiment at putin’s behest. this was an ideologically captivating narrative which successfully stirred up a fervid protest movement among the europhilic half of ukraine’s population-but it was also a lie, and the resulting “revolution” neither rooted out corruption nor brought ukraine membership in the dominant political, economic, and military institutional bodies of the US and western europe).

    I honestly asked myself something, so if Ukraine isn’t allowed to use any western weapons on the territory of Russia to strike there troops, why didn’t they use there drones for it? I’m not talking about fpv ones, let’s say it’s Actually 50k troops there is surely ways to find places where they are Station and strike them like you yeah that area is pretty big but they can’t put them to far away from the border Incase they gotta defend an attack or go on the attack. Still find it very dumb that they aren’t even allowed to use western air defense to hit those jets beyond the border.. about the star link tho, since Russia got there hands on those system as well they could have taken them apart and learned how to jam them or it may have simply been a very power full jamming station like in kalinigrad just my takes on that, love the videos keep up the good work ❤

    I strongly disagree that crack troops depleted for Russian or Ukraine. last 2 years regardless heavy losses for either side the constant fighting will create elite troops for those who remains. While Russian able to rotate their troops I argue that the fact Ukraine unable to rotate their troops allow building of more elite troops even though it has its own downsides.

  • @StevenBendal

    I don't think you're too optimistic. It seems that the russians are struggling. They are desperate, I think. Look how the soviet stores are shrinking and the delegation who went to China. No, as long as the Ukrainians can slow their movement on the front and keep hammering their assets fare behind the frontlines, the russians will run out of steam. I'm also afraid of being too optimistic, but I feel quite confident now.

  • @user-uk5hv6qz7d
    @user-uk5hv6qz7d 15 днів тому +2

    Jonathan.... Slowing down the Russians near Kharkiv is nothing militarily significant. What would be significant is what additional assets Russia is moving toward that frontier, or can deploy relatively quickly to that frontier. The Russians surely know that is what will be decisive and anything other than that is merely playing cat and mouse to no real purpose, and thus a waste of manpower. Only if that move is backed by an additional and very significant commitment of Russian assets does it make any military sense at all. So we await what comes next. Thus far nothing much. If nothing follows that then the Russian offensive is a militarily weak minded and pointless "excercise" that is costing Russian lives to no real purpose. I cannot believe Russia is intent on that. Of course such actions can be intent to draw off opposing assets from other battles, but I doubt the Russians are intent on that in the Kharkiv area. That area is too important to them and they intend to take Kharkiv in the long term, as a major step to their intent to take Kyiv. (Of course I do not believe anything Putin, or some otehrs at that level, say about such actions. We can expect lies there, because the right lies, at the right moment, can achieve advantage. The current regime there is far too good at that particular type of "realpolitik", which is lies to achieve advantage and effect. They believe in it. They believe in achieving the goal by any means.)

    People need to stop thinking of Russia as the USSR and fearing great hordes of men and armoured vehicles pouring into every new overhyped 'major' offensive
    Think of it as a combination of the UK and France in terms of population and of Ireland and Spain in terms of GDP and it puts things into perspective
    Yes they are bigger than Ukraine which is why Ukraine needs the help of the West

    I doubt Russia have depleted their troops otherwise Ukraine would just take all the land back again but worth noting is that Russia have been losing 1500 troops per day this past week. 7 x 1500 = 10k troops. So if they had amassed 30k troops for the Kharkiv offensive they will have lost 1/3 of that already in the first week. That is pretty significant in my books. If they carry on like this they will have depleted 30,000 troops by the end of the month. Ok so they are getting more untrained Nepalese fighters to replace them but still that is not a tactic that will achieve victory for them in any shape or form. Considering all this it is suprising they are advancing still. Front might have stabilized but they are still advancing. Maybe just for another week or 2. Still with those numbers they should not really be advancing at all should they? It's an interesting development for now for sure. Ukraine was also supposed to have a production capacity of 3 million drones by the end of the year. 3 million drones is roughly 8000 drones per day. If each drone just takes out 1 enemy on average (some will take out more, others will get shot down) that would be 40,000 drones that should be able to take out 40k Russians with drones alone PER WEEK. We are definetely not seeing those casualties per week yet... Even if half the drones get taken out and it's 80,000 PER MONTH, Ukraine should be able to eliminate every single Russian soldier within a year, excluding snipers, guns, grenades, mines, F-16's, Himars, ATACMS, gimlers and artillery. So somehow the numbers do not match up YET. But interesting times ahead. I wish Ukraine all the luck they can get. On paper Russia should be screwed anyway.

    Muskrat invests even less in cyber security than he does on customer service, so I can't say it'd be much of a surprise to find Russia has found ways into Starlink that enable cyber attacks, nor would it be a terrible shock were we to find out that such cyber attacks by Russia are known to King Hairplugs and he's chosen to look the other way. In fact, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised were it to be discovered that Muskrat has knowingly & actively been helping Russia.
