Appalling work conditions. Not even the most basic protective gear.
Those gypsy boys were amazing, like circus acrobats. But that system with the spanners is primitive, there must be a lot of hand crush injuries. As one who has worked the levers and the rods in my time...I coul see an accident happening at any minuet. Not to mention foot injuries. OK I know a steel capped boot isn't going to save your foot from a dropped 300kg hammer but they at least would keep the wounds clean.
