  • Dem Bones (Dry Bones)
    written by James Weldon Johnson
    performed by The Harmonaires
from the Hallmark Production, "One Too Many," released theatrically in December 1950
I know very little about this group and I am hoping someone can fill me in. I know of one record being released about the same time this move came out. "Ridin' The Roller Coaster" backed with "Get On Board" as Kaybee 13. Kaybee was out of Beverly Hills, if the label is correct. I have also been able to gather that the gentleman seen second from the left is a guy named James Calvin Ward. I have not found any evidence as to where this group came from or any other concrete history. So, once again, any information would be beyond awesome and greatly appreciated.

They sound great. You must be very proud. I always misunderstood what this song was about until I read Ezekiel.

That's so cool. My dad used to sing Dem Bones all the time, also Three Bells, is where I picked up a love of vocal harmony and much later, ten years singing in London gospel choirs. Funny how these things germinate. ;-)

My GGpa is front and center, Leroy J Bowen from Columbus, Ohio. They were the ambassador singers for Carter wrightt during WWII. There’s not a lot of information published. There’s minimal info at the Columbus Public Library but there are a couple of cool photos!

Dig those crazy threads, man. Matching double-breasted suits. They had style.
