Best news this year.
Well, you're going to have to come to the US to tour, then...
This is wonderful news! Welcome back, fellas!
Great news! Just bought your first one on vinyl, costed me an arm and a leg but damn it's such good record so well worth it. Looking forward to your new one.
This song is a backdrop to one of the most amazing periods of my life. Post-uni, but a group of friends who came together and partied like we were still there. We used to play this regularly.
I miss being young.
I found this song after 10 years. I missed this feeling while listening to this song 🥰
Quality 😊
2022!!!
Thanks delwen. News for you... we are back!
they've just announced they're back, after a 6 year break
A wondersong❤
That feeling when you live in the Cowley area mentioned in the song, and you open your window in the morning to let the sunlight in and play this tune... Just bliss
Thanks Linda. News for you... we are back!
they've just announced they're back, after a 6 year break
I recently found this band, and I love them!!! There's so many people talking about how this is nostalgic for them, and here I am... creating future nostaligia!!!
Same here brilliant
the fact that this got a heart tho...
Hear here beautiful melody - gorgeous voices. Smooth and calm and sweet natured. Gees, the world has changed in a short time.
They're my number one streamed artist on Spotify. So bummed I found them after they split.
Thanks Allison. News for you... we are back!
I love how Brian smiles at Adam when he plays the trumpet, it's as if he is thinking 'He's playing trumpet on a roundabout. Brill"
My dad saw you guys at the Doug Fir in Portland OR in 2009/2010 when this album was released. He purchased this album on vinyl for me, as a 16th birthday gift and had you all sign the front. I still listen to this album to this very day ❤
This song was literally my childhood and I've just found it once again :)
Thanks Kola. News for you... we are back!
they've just announced they're back, after a 6 year break
Going through my favorited videos from 9 years ago. Holy shit.
Exactly what I am doing now!
same!! i am looking through some of my finds and then i used to rip mp3s with mozilla download helper or something to play them on my college radio show... hahah omg... those were the days... i used to play this song nearly every week bc i loved it in college
Thanks lexy. News for you... we are back!
My god. That drummer. He's...he's beautiful. THAT JAW.
this song has never once failed to brighten my mood
It makes my heart warm when I hear that Americans love our music :')
Love you guys :)
Listened to a lot of belle and Sebastian and heard this on Spotify. What a beautiful well written song, just perfect in every way.
So happy these guys are playing at womad this year.
there are conkers on the ground and I've actually just started uni, this song makes me so happy
Conkers? What does that mean? Sorry. I'm from the USA, so I don't know the slang (or at least I presume that it's slang. It may just be a word I don't know). Anyway, I agree. This is a wonderful song with a happy feel. :D
Tael the Mask Salesman en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conkers :D
Christine Sutcliffe Thanks. :D That makes more sense now haha
Thanks Katherine. News for you... we are back!
There’s something special about this kind of early 2010s folk-pop-rock. Part of it’s nostalgia talking, but that all too brief indie acoustic revival was a great time in music.
There really is, in my early 20s now and I feel like this music takes me back to being in my early teens, when you’re changing and the world is all opening up, it’s this feeling that is so amazing but so distant now.
Anyone else seeing this, comment those songs/bands for you and we’ll make a thread.
its the season to start listening to this song on repeat again
Come back to this song every time fall rolls around.
Thanks Matilde. News for you... we are back!
I played this song for my little boy today. He said it was like trumpets playing in his soul.
What age is he?
@@brendanfisher 10 now 9 then.
❤️
Oh f**k off Rebecca he did not say that
r/thathappened
Remind me of The Incredible String Band from the 1970s. I am 70 and I love Stornaway !
listened to this on BBC 1 on the saturday show with reggie. Ellie Goulding came on and requested this song - now i am listening to it constantly. Glad ive got a replay button :)
Heard this on radio 1 on a late night show - this is such a great track!
Still love this years later
This is one of my favourite songs, heard it 15 years ago on a Hungarian radio station. Instant love for my young soul. I always come back from time to time to find back to my younger self. I'm still disappointed that only 1,5M people watched it, should be 10 times more. Anyway I'm glad you're still active, keep it up, and come to Hungary if you can :)
This band is just what we need in this gloomy years.
Thanks Ivan. News for you... we are back!
@@stornoway_band yessss!!!
Brilliant song i love it 😃
So many chequed shirts! I’d still wear one today if I could. What an absolutely brilliant song from an absolutely brilliant band.
Thanks Craig. News for you... we are back!
This is the stuff that should be on the radio, MTV, and winning grammies.
Perfect song for summer.
Just in love with the song, the band, everything. Making a lots of friends listen to it, even if they don't want to lol Here, in the center of Brazil you have a fan ^^
Né né no sul tambem
Ana Luísa Burjack Em SP e no Canadá também!
I have just recently discovered this band and I love them, too! So, on the East Coast of the United States, another new fan!!
Thanks Ana. News for you... we are back!
This song is connected for me to a man, we were in love. It's been a long time. I hope he finds his way out of alcoholism and finds peace and makes happiness with his beautiful daughters. Martin B, I still believe you can make it and make it better for yourself and for all those who love you. The world gains light from you, let it happen
This song makes me cry 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
hey it’s been a while but i wanna ask why
@@crytstalcrust because it's a sad song
I discovered this band because iTunes used to give away a free album every week/month (I’m not sure) and this track became part of the soundtrack of my high school life in rural Australia ❤
Absolutely love Stornoway, they were amazing at XFM's gig at the Barfly in January!
for some reason, I had this song in my head all the time when I was cycling through the Netherlands with my dad, camping at random spots.
went to watch them in manc and lost ma driving license the next morning cos i got breathalysed on the way to work after drinking at this gig.watchin this tho makes me happy and forget about it again
I heard these guys on Jo willey on Sunday, I was driving home after a very heavy session with me mates on saturday and this tune has stuck in me head and i can't stop listening to it!
Brilliant tune
Can't wait for the album
Cheers
My god I love this band & this song!
I just discovered this song a day after a girl I’ve been seeing officially became my girlfriend. This song perfectly encapsulates how I feel about her. Thank you for this incredible song ❤️
I may be misremembering this but i have a feeling i might have found this song by looking at the top 10 tracks in the dazed and confused magazine wayyyy back. Lovely tune, its crazy how that magazine doesnt even print monthly issues anymore!? However i found Stornoway, it brings v happy memories for me, this music provided respite from my chaotic life. Thank you!
every now n again you find music that puts a smile on yer face an fuels fond memories of loved ones n times gone bye.
One of them is my music teacher 14 yrs later! I'm in secondary school
I heard this song on public radio back in 2011 right after I graduated from college while on a trip near the boundary waters in Minnesota.
Found this shortly after it came out when searching for zorbing videos. Been watching ever since.
I live in the States. I came across this by accident. I cannot accurately describe how it makes me feel .dreamy and elevated to another place.
oh wie ich mich freue diese jungs im sommer live zu erleben....
It's a beautiful december morning and this song just seemed perfect for the occasion.
This song is so darn good. A friend showed me it a couple of months ago and I still play it as often as I can.
Thanks Matt. News for you... we are back!
@@stornoway_band ayyye! Right on! Stoked to hear the new stuff :)
wonderful - my cousin in the UK introduced me to your music. I lived in Oxford as a child.
"Conker shining on the ground"
Found this on an ‘inspired by’ playlist a couple days ago and now it’s on repeat can’t get enough of this song
I've just realised that TWO different videos were made for this lovely tune.... .....the other shows Brian working in a depot and the band in one of those truckers cafes..... but this one literally makes me quite dizzy just watching it!! ....... which came first?
This song does something to my brain everytime I listen
Brilliant. Love it.
This is plain wonderful. My favourite song of the year so far - and I hear a lot of new music.
Excellent and good to know Oxford is still producing good bands!
Heard this on radio 6 this morning, completely forgot what a absolute tune this was
this is such a great song. not to mention, the drummer is adorable.
This is the MOST superbly British Middle-class song to have been released in the last 38 years
Brilliant. Took a long time to hunt down after seeing them on TV at Glasto.
they were amazing at glastonbury:)
Imagine....walking in the park, sun beating down ice cream in hand listening to this song. Pure bliss
I can't get this bloody song out of my head
Lovely vocals, great song.
i fell in love with this song like 5 years ago (i totally forgot about it) and i randomly thought about it today and i just had to listen to it. it's still as amazing as i remember it being
Me too! I saw Stornaway the place, on the weather map on the news and I thought OH YEAH!
Saw these guys at the Wedgewood Rooms and got a vinyl signed by them. Was pretty cool.
Just saw their last gig at WOMAD '22. Great band, great people. Nuff love
I absolutely love this song ...I have no idea why...I was driving home the other day and heard it on the radio - I only got 'Zorbing' glad there is such a thing like google and youtube. LOve it LOve it!
WOW EXCELLENT VIDEO! BEAUTIFUL SONG! tho anyone else got motion sickness watching?? ... still, can't help but love it!
heard this song on the radio today (triple j in australia) for the first time and really like it - the voice kind of reminded me of Nico
"Conkers shining on the ground, the air is cooler, and I feel like I just started uni."
Charming! I love this song.
Saw these on the telly last night - I thought they were brill!
LYRICS:
Conquers shining on the ground,
The air is cooler
And i feel like i just started uni
Walking backwards to my van
Your at your window,
And I'm tripping every time i think of
Lying in your attic
I can feel the static
The storm has broken, Heavens open
Send my body out to work
But leave my senses
In orbit over south east London
Wind the window down and pinch
Me on the shoulder
Whilst I'll be off to dream of
Lying in your attic
I can feel the static
The storm has broken, Heavens open
So electrifying, Oh I'm nearly flying
Lost my heart between the sheets of lightening
I've been singing you this song,
Inside a bubble,
Been Zorbing through the streets of Cali,
We were always meant to be,
Zorbing together, And i think its high time we started
Lying in your attic
I can feel the static
The storm is breaking, windows shaking
So electrifying, Oh I'm nearly flying
Lost my heart between the sheets of lightening
Lying in your attic
I can feel the static
The storm has broken, Heavens open
So electrifying, Oh I'm nearly flying
Lost my heart between the sheets of lightening
*streets of Cowley
*conkers
Conkers 😉
Thanks Sezzy. News for you... we are back!
Stunningly beautiful and evocative song. All the early innocence of a young romance. I love the first few lines about that feeling of just having started uni, when all the world is at your feet, and you are surrounded by hundreds of other young souls, all embarking on their first few tentative steps towards adulthood. Oh to be 18 again.
Got tickets for Christmas and can't wait..
First song of 2019! Still a bop, happy new year friends!
Love this song! ✌🏻💚🏴
Very soothing, makes us who listen to it feel calm.
Awesome, along with Alphabet Backwards, Oxford is rocking!!
Saw them at Truck festival at the weekend. Brilliant. Lovely voice. Great song. The rest of their debut album is also very good. Recommend. Hope to see them at Truck 14.Fab.
I too saw them on BBC Glasto coverage. Great performance and just had to look them up!
Quality song. :)
These guys have a really good future ahead of them!
:)
Are ye still around? Found this song, almost laying in my attic for so many years, yet this song is like ye made it yesterday!! Still loving it in 2023 ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Magalie. Please join our mailing list, and we will have some news for you next week!
@Stornoway So awesome to hear you guys are still around!! ❤️ 🤘🏽🤘🏽💕
I first heard this yesterday on the radio whilst out for a walk and thought it was a classic from like the 80's or something. It completely relaxed me and now I love them.
A wonderful song from a truly wonderful time in my life. I still feel the dew on the grass on summer mornings and feel exactly how I did then with this song.
Oxford! Representing!
Love it so Much 😍
Easily in my top 10 bands, this gives me sooo much nostalgia thanks for all the good memories I’ll miss you guys!
saw them last night had a fantastic time
Fantastic stuff, saw them for the first time on Jools last night.
I HAVE MET THIS AMAZING BAND!!!!!!! TOUCHED THERE HANDS!!
I bought this album. It is splendid. So buy it too.
Excellent tune from those boys of Stornoway! Really like the simplistic folk-esq harmonies. One of the best tunes I've heard from them.
Get yourself down to the Union Chapel,London on Sat 20th evening and see them live.
saw these on BBC Glasto show, had to look them up. Great tune, cant wait for the album
I remember when they won the Mercury Music prize for this song in 2010! I was a little disappointed that Two Door Cinema Club didn't win, but then I thought about how unique this song was compared to everything else that had been released that year, including TDCC, and realised that they totally deserved the win.
saw them in oxford today at the botanic gardens and they were soooo good!!!!
Saw them last night on the Cardiff leg of their farewell tour....and what can I say, apart from that they absolutely superb. So sad to see them going, before their time in my opinion. Not a dry eye in the house.
Every time I catch the train to Edinburgh this is on my ipod around Berwick way. It just fits.
saw these boys on 'later...' last night - absolutely brilliant. best song of the year hands down.
i want the album, and i want it now.
finally found this song been searching for it for ages! Heard it on radio 1 today and fell in love!
just one of them songs ..good to listen to
