On Thorns I Lay is a legendary band. They have more than 30 years of career under their belt. They are part the first wave of pionneers of atmospheric doom-death and gothic-doom in the 90s. They are not new to the avenue. They do not need to be related to any younger band you know, like some tend to do when they discover them. They do not need either to be ranked in one of your generic stereotypes about greek metal bands. Drop the naive essentialist preconceptions and the common places. Nationality is not a muical style per se. They have their own musical identity and they did create their own universe long before any doom-death band they are compared with existed. OTIL has its own sound, it's wide, creative and versatile and here their use of an orchestra of traditional instruments like duduk or saz along with classical orchestra both blended to their doom-death sound sets them appart and makes it something both unique and coherent with their musical universe. Let's drop the pointless comparisons and enjoy the ride for itself.
Yesterday, 16th Feb Friday, they played with SepticFlesh in Istanbul and I liked them better. They had the best performance of the night despite being subgroup. Thanks for the amazing show. Here in Türkiye, metal community loves Greek metal bands so much. Sincere loves from Türkiye.

Only time in my life I let a label introduce me to all my latest new to me bands. Again here I am because Season of Mist kill it with these bands. Now another new to me band that is added to my playlist. Never heard them til today, now I'm a fan though after this play thru.

Just starting my 4th listen and falling in love more each time. Definitely the best album so far in my humble opinion and tomorrow' i will be revisiting earlier works to enhance my listening experience.

Thanks for the timecodes although contained in the description, but it's more convenient here. About the intro, though. why should we skip the intro, the orchestral arrangements are amazing and part of the experience. Just because we are not always bombarbed by heavy riffs, does not mean these atmospheric parts are secondary in the experience.

First name I thought of was Septic Flesh.
I know you mean well and your comment should be taken as a praise for the band. But as a long standing fans for more than 25 years, it's annoying to hear that kind of comparison. I can't blame you cause I think you know OTIL little but yeah, it a biased reasoning to relate them to Septicflesh. They're friends with but they do not sound like them. You relate them to Septicflesh, essentially because it's extreme metal and they're greek. As many fans of metal you seem to relate bands based on national cliches. Being greek is not style per se. Let's cut the crap, after 30 years, OTIL have their own individuality. Even My Dying Bride, is not so relevant as a comparison, although MDB is the root of everything that is doom death and is also an influence of OTIL. Being influenced does not mean being a clone. If you get familiar to OTIL catalogue more, you realize they have developped their own unique sound and style that is actually different from the symphonic death of SF and the bleak doom of MDB. The similarities are superficial. OTIL explores different shades of doom death more melodic and melancolic.
