I adore these 1980s UK Adverts - they are the best thing on You Tube, and the only glimpse of happiness I will probably ever get, looking back from a vantage point of 40 years. Life passes you by before you know it, but I am so glad I came from that era, and was a teen then, growing up in the eighties. I miss it so badly. 😢
There are definitely experiences we had back then that will never be experienced en-masse again. Eg. Looking for a phone box / not being constantly connected by mobile / not being distracted/obsessed with social media / everyone watching the same TV shows (as there were only 3 or 4 channels). Mind you there are some things that are best left in the past, eg. being babysat/supervised by a dodgy uncle or family friend (if you catch my drift). There's more awareness these days of what can go on behind closed doors, and that is thankfully a positive.
Agree with everything you have said, I just wish vile Jimmy Saville could have been exposed for what he was and prosecuted, but in those days talking about sexual abuse was taboo!! it has only come out in recent times, a pity.
Adverts these days won’t be remembered in years to come, unlike these. Can still remember all the words. Also how big was that Mars bar?! #Shrinkflation
I wish they’d reopen Woolies just so they can bring back pick n mix, the proper one with wrapped chocolates and sweets too. Also, coming up to the Christmas period when I’m looking to buy chocs for loved ones, I lament the lack of choice of chocolate assortments. I just feel there just isn’t enough choice these days, bring back All Gold, Blue Triangle Cadbury’s Inspirations and Harlequin! I had this thought at 4:55 with the advert for the Biarritz box. 4:39 what was Cadbury’s Go?
Damn, watching these sweets and snacks adverts from the UK got me craving something right now(it was mostly the sweets adverts that did it for me, I have a helluva insatiable sweet tooth). Another scrumptious video in the books, thank you for this Steve
I still miss woolworths, we still have a sweet shop round here and they make their own sweets, the one shop they had opened just after the war and closed some years ago so sad to see it go, they still had the same shelves as when they opened, other shops are still going thankfully, but supermarkets have a lot to answer for😢
I remember the then oldies having freedent lol!!! Probs not too far from that myself now 😢 ❤ used to love me an ice breaker if you remember that lush choc mint bar 😊
Some great adverts there bringing back some 1980s memories.Vaguely recall the ad for Carburys Go! mainly for the tune (using Johnny B Goode) rather than the product and the Hula Hoops crisps animated one.
Great collection, and look at the first Cadbury's Twirl advert- that proves they've shrunk in size - unless the actors had very small hands!😂 I can tell you that Twirls used to be bigger, they are and have been since they were introduced, my favourite chocolate bar x 2.😄
@nuttynatsu2354 I think to some degree our adult size may have a bit to do with it, but I'm certain Cadbury's are reducing their ingredients and producing smaller chocolate bars, Dairy Milk for example, I've seen bars that are the same length and width, but the bars are a lot thinner. I wouldn't mind a time machine to go back to my childhood and bring back some Cadbury's products.😄
Any ideas on who voices the Barry White-alike Capricorn in the Aardman-animated Creme Egg advert? I thought it might be Charles Augins (the legendary Queeg 500 from Red Dwarf), but I'm far from sure.
It’s funny how many of these adverts seemed so heavily influenced by America, if I hadn’t remembered most of them I would have said they were American. ❤️🇬🇧
I remember the Cadburys Mini Eggs one with the parrot and also the annoying Hula Hoops one, which I didn't really get. Where was the location in that Twirl ad with all those payphones?
Absolutely no clue on the payphones location. The Hula Hoops "Eat, don't Hula" confused me at the time as well. In hindsight, I think they might have been trying to kickstart a catchphrase, but I don't think it really took off. Nice animation though.
The last time the US had anything like that pic n mix is probably over a century ago when there were stores where candy was only a penny a piece. Kinder Surprise eggs are still illegal in the US. I wish British chocolate didn't cost an arm and a leg to get in the US. I almost fainted one year when I looked up how much getting one of those Christmas tins like the Roses would be.
I'm snacking on some watermelon while I watch this, and that's all well and good, but... but I do keep looking sadly down from the screen at the bowl... 🥲 😆 I could murder a Mini Egg (or, if I'm being totally honest, a disgustingly big bag of Pick 'n Mix from Woolies 😁)

OMG! The Woolworth's Pick n mix was like the best thing of a lot of people's childhood and which is still missed!
Apparently when I was a toddler in the early to mid seventies I thought these sweets were free, much to my parents dismay
These ads are a real treasure showing life before the steep decline. Thank you for archiving them. 👏🏻
All great memory-joggers, especially the Hula Hoops advert with Cab Calloway!
saved it just for that

Go was a cereal bar coated in chocolate. I remember loving them but they weren't around for very long.

Yeah, cutting out those snacks is the hardest thing. Been trying to slim down for years & the snacking is always the killer.
Look at the size of the Mars Bar! Nowadays the standard bar is like what a Funsize was back then...
.. and don't start me on the 'Duo' bars - that's definitely not TWO bars!
7:39 props to whoever designed that lizard costume!
Was pretty good. I thought the Milkybar Kid did well with that move, too.

I do remember a sweet shop near my Grandma's house back in the 80s. All wooden floors & glass counters, like something from the 70s Willy Wonka movie.
When chocolate was real chocolate and sugar was real sugar
Obesity is real too.
@jackdubz4247 bollocks
Blimey! Some of these ring a bell. Very interesting to see which brands are no longer around. Such as Orbit gum. Wonder why it was discontinued?
I used to chew Orbit sugar free gum. I chew Wrigleys Extra now.
I remember the then oldies having freedent lol!!! Probs not too far from that myself now 😢 ❤ used to love me an ice breaker if you remember that lush choc mint bar 😊
Brilliant video.. Even adverts had more class

I'm sure twirls used to be bigger. With some products, I can never tell if it's the product got smaller or I got bigger.

Another great selection, I wonder if that Creme Egg advert woukd be allowed now 😂
That pic n mix advert must've had at least £10m worth of sweets
Any ideas on who voices the Barry White-alike Capricorn in the Aardman-animated Creme Egg advert? I thought it might be Charles Augins (the legendary Queeg 500 from Red Dwarf), but I'm far from sure.
No idea.
I've seen enough of your compilations to appreciate the silence until the first important sound of the first commercial.
Today it's the goodness of fake sugars like Aspartame, Asuflame
Sachrin ..
As opposed to diabetes, obesity and tooth decay.
Never realised it was Tom Jones and Liz Hurley in the Cornetto advert...
I've just googled 'Elizabeth Hurley Cornetto advert' 😂
@joe_seppi and?
Edit - Ok, had to check myself to see what came up- was actually in a magnum advert apparently!
Kika Markham.
Walls in England & HB in Ireland same design in Ice Cream.

Walls cornetto aren't what they used to be size wise , like a mini me version these days like a lot of things
Speak for yourself sir .😊

Eating a Mars bar a day now would be considered very unhealthy. Its hard to imagine that was the slogan back then.
Its now "a mars a year, wont bung up your rear"😂😂
When chocolate was big not like today
Wow back in the day when i had my own hair and teeth
Tell me about it.
I remember when 1p sweets were actually a penny and when chocolate bars were a full size not like these days
Damn!?! Woolworths had money to make a 'pick n' mix' advert, hmm ok.
Diverse 😂
Not exactly 'enlightened' back in the 70s & 80s, let's face it. 🤨
Oh how indoctrinated are we. If only life was like the adverts ha ha.
If life were like the adverts, we'd all be mindless slaves to corporations. Oh wait ...
@RetroSteveUK ha 🤣 😆 😅

Sorry.. I'm such a bad influence! 😏
You need to munch a Cadburys GO bar..😊
El-Ritmo - I like your use of the word “disgustingly” big bag of Pick ‘n’ Mix - it’s great!!! 😂 👍
