That's such a dumb take. If he hated the game, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be playing in the NBA, lol. I think he likes to joke with the media, and people think he is serious. I mean, his nickname is the Joker. If you watch a game and it shows his face, you can tell he really cares and wants to win. Like when he's telling his teammates what play the other team is going to run or at the end of a game in a huddle, or telling guys where to lineup on a defensive possession. I think the people who say that are just the haters they can't say anything about his game because they know he's one of the best, if not the best player, so they just say he hates basketball lol.

Someone like Curry is going to last an extra number of years compared to everyone else because he still has a shooter's touch. Even if he lost his speed and quickness to create his shots. He can still throw solid passes and work off as a catch and shoot even if he plays until he is like 40.

Maybe he can't jump, but he doesn't need to so why waste the energy. Sure Anthony Edwards looks cool on a long dive for a slam dunk, but in the end that's only 2 points. When watching Jokic play I am constantly reminded that in 1992 there was a film ”White Men Can’t Jump”, starring Wesley Snipes as ‘Sidney Deane’ and Woody Harrelson as ‘Billy Hoyle’.
    Some quotes.
Sidney Deane to Billy Hoyle :- “You see Billy it's like this, you either smoke or you get smoked. And you got smoked”.
Billy Hoyle to Sidney Deane :- “A white man wants to win first, look good second. A black man wants to look good first, win second”.
Again Billy Hoyle to Sidney Deane :- “A black man would rather miss than look bad”.
Still very relevant today, just look at the bench when someone does something eye catching, whether it scores points or not it is celebrated.
Do they get as excited about the less flashy fundamental stuff.
Jokic is just about winning, he cares little to nothing about personal accolades, just winning.

It’s all about observation and mental capacity to lean.
I remember a bit of research done about 15 years or so ago with F1 drivers and ordinary everyday motorists.
They did reaction tests and found that F1 driver’s reactions were no better than any other persons.
Then they found the difference, they found the F1 drivers were a lot more observant. The feel of the car, the track conditions, the tyre grip, and on and on.
Observation gives you the tools to make the right decisions at the right time, and when you see all that is happening around you, then it all appears to slow down.
Until the US stop forcing athletes to be one dimensional then they are never going to move forward vey much, and relying on how high you can jump is limiting.

It's very funny to me, as someone who's from Serbia and watches the game from the angle of a team sport, that people keep mentioning this "eye test" and that Jokic doesn't meat it. I keep wandering what's the "eye test" based on? Is it who dunks the most? Who makes the most blocks? Who has the best handles? Can you define the "eye test" for me please? Because for me, and most people in Serbia, making the right play is what's considered to be a good thing, reading the game and making the best play in your situation. "Eye test" is a very vague word and to me personally it seems as it's invented to prop up someone's personal opinion about a player, if they like or dislike the player or their playstyle, but they don't want to say it openly or they understand that it's just a personal opinion and it doesn't represent the facts with which you actually make logical arguments if someone is or isn't playing good basketball.

It's just how effortless it looks.
Watch someone like Kevin Durant, or Kyrie, when they score, or make a play it looks so smooth and effortless, Paul George is another player, the game is so smooth and effortless to the running the scoring and moves, but Jokic is the complete opposite.
Everything he does looks labored, and like he's REALLY trying, and he looks like a step slower. Yet in fact, he's MILES ahead, and makes incredible decisions, but all the work is done before he even touches the ball, and when he does it's labored, but EFFECTIVE. It's always the same shot, with no sauce with Jokic...so Eye test he just looks...tired and sloppy...until the ball gets into his hand, and you realize everything he was doing off the ball, and before and after a play, and he's always so consistent. But when you look everything appears scattered, but it's because he just sees it all, and so much what he does surprises because of that "non-linearity" of his game.
I don't know if that makes sense, it's just something you pick up as you watch basketball.

@@OnyieOnyeabor007 so it's an aesthetic thing? I don't think that what Kyrie does is effortless. When I see what he's doing on the court my knees ache. It does look incredibly smooth and like poetry in motion. But it looks less good when he starts taking wild shots.
It might be a cultural thing, but when I see a player starting to dribble the ball too much and going into 1v1 game, it means that the team game has failed.
When I see Jokic going 1v1 on the low post, that's what you want to see, those are potentially very easy points because a layup is the "shot" that you can make with high %, especially compared to a step back 3 for example. And those type of 1v1 plays look very wild. When you're a player forced to watch that and that team mate misses the shot, it's frustrating. Compare it to Jokic involving the whole team and everyone gets a chance to shine.
Again, I think it's very much a cultural thing, I see what Jokic is doing as far more superior compared to what KD is doing and even results speak to that fact when you look who Jokic lead to the championship compared to with whom KD couldn't win championship.
To give you an example, when I see MPJ or Jamal Murry take one of their shots, I go ape shit crazy and start yelling at the tv for them to pass the damn ball. xD

They don’t know what to do with a guy who’s efficient from mid range because the mid range shot is all but dead. He has a skill set that’s perfect to take advantage of the deficiencies of the modern game.

His Stat lines are just insane. It would be different if this is like a once or twice a year occurrence but it basically seems like he goes out there and does this more often than not. Would be if he was just putting 30 or 40 points and had no assists that’s not the case though it’s not even like hog ball or anything

Can we stop this bullshit that Jokić is not athletic? It downplays all his hard work to keep himself in shape.
Sure, he's slow footed and can't jump. But he's STRONG as fuck and fit as a fiddle, his motor is second to none. That's also part of athleticism.

Jokic through 10 games: 30/14/12 on 56% shooting while getting hacked on every possession. If they officiated him like they do Embiid or SGA he’d be averaging an easy 35.

Can’t deny his greatness. But in general, assists are over inflated today. If I pass the ball to you , and you take more than 2 dribbles. That cannot count as an assist.

Pretty sound argument but as long as it is applied across the board then it's fair. It may well be wrong but not unfair.
In fact that would probably make Joker even more efficient when you consider how many in full stride no dribble assists he hands out.

I kinda disagree with some thing where. Yes Jokic obviously isn't athletic, but the skill and agility he has at his size is obviously natural talent. Of course he works hard and had good training growing up. But dude has mad talent. Also he def likes basketball. Just his demeanor comes across like he doesn't lol

the big difference between jokic and other NBA players is that jokic plays to win and he doesnt care about dunks and show off , and thats what other players do , they want to be a star and they rarely are, jokic is a superstar worker, you need workers in your team and then stars and jokic is both

That's one of things that I don't understand about the whole "The modern NBA player is more skilled" take. Bigs can't play in the post, guards don't know how to pass to the post, very few players can play in the mid-range, and they don't know how to run a fast break properly so where is all of this skill? Making 36% shots harder by dribbling back further away?

Put any contemporary player in the 80s and 90s and see what they would do and how quickly they would adjust.
Players are way more skilled, on both ends.

Jokic is proof Bird would have dominated today aswell and probably put better numbers than he did in the 80s. Its playing within a team using your teammatesbto your advantage and then also iso when there is no other option. Its crazy how similar they play.
