      @AMindFullMom i actually bought the Arby's horseradish sauce in a squeeze bottle and put a small squirt in the potatoes and lots more on mine when I eat!!! 😋 YUMMY

    I like the idea pd pealing & keeping in fridge overnight. I will boil mine on stove, because i use the boiled water for my gravy the starch helps to thicken. Then i can keep warm in the crockpot.

    Thanks for sharing, just what I was looking for. Please note……I have the same crock pot, the lid locks are for travel and or storage only. Not while you are using the crockpot.

    I use my hand mixer after the regular masher all the time! Just fine! Like the idea of the crockpot!

      I've never had gummy mashed potatoes using a hand mixer either. I've heard that using a food processer will definitely produce gummy taters.

      You can certainly use the hand mixer if you don't have issues--just mix on low.

    I never peel potatoes....the peels have great flavor & nutrition. Not peeling saves time.

      You're right, it definitely saves time and the peels are super nutrient dense. Mashed potatoes is typically the only recipe I remove the peel.

      You can simply wash them. As you peel the dirt from the peel can reach the interior of the potato.

    With any leftover mashed potatoes you can make gnocchi. They’ll be exceptionally yummy with the garlic & parm that was used when making the potatoes.
    1 cup mashed potatoes, I cup flour, 1 egg. Mix, but don’t over mix (think pancakes). Pull off a hunk, roll into a log on a floured surface and cut into bits.
    I recommend putting them on a baking sheet and freezing them. Dropping those delicate fresh bits into boiling water isn’t fun!
    Boil, in salted water, just until they float (I use a strainer spoon) and smother in your favorite (hopefully homemade;) sauce😋

    Happy Thanksgiving, @AMindFullMom, I’ve just discovered you! Going to give the crockpot potatoes a whirl tomorrow! I too use a hand mixer. I don’t dare go any higher than low on my mixer because it’s fast enough on that setting!

    This is brilliant...and so obvious but I'd have not thought to do this!!! Even peeling and cutting the potatoes ahead and refrigerating them the evening before so that's done ahead of time: I just never thought about doing that!!! DUH on ME>

    I'm a simple kind of person when it comes to food. Potatoes, butter, salt, pepper, milk or cream. No garlic, sour cream, broth, or parm. 😊

    I think what makes the potatoes gummy is not cooking them long enough. I use a hand mixer and they turn out creamy every time as long as they're cooked through. These potatoes look pretty fantastic thanks for the recipe. Happy Thanksgiving.

    i like the crock pot idea, however I like plain mashed potatoes and NO LUMPS, so I omit the garlic and cheese, and I used electric mixed to get out the lumps. thanks for the crock pot idea.

      Do you have any plain yogurt? If not just skip it. Don’t worry, with milk or cream (warmed like she said a little in microwave) it will turn out just fine. Add the butter and some chicken stock or broth if you have it too like she said. I’ve never made them this way but I’m going to give it a whirl too!

      Absolutely! For best results, let the potatoes come to room temperature for 30 minutes first. Add them to the crockpot, and add in a bit more cream or milk to thin and then turn to low for 20-30 minutes. Give it a stir, and turn to warm to hold warm.

      I would use garlic powder over minced garlic (1-2 teaspoons). Minced jarred garlic can be a bit overpowering in this particular recipe.

      Yes! I prefer Yukon Gold potatoes for their buttery flavor, but this recipe works with russet as well.

      Hmm...that is not something I have made before. However, I would recommend sautéing onions, celery, garlic together and add in thyme leaves and bay to season.

      Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-7 hours, or until potatoes are fork tender and mash easily :)

    I smash and then use my mixer. Don't have the umph anymore to hand beat it. Happy Thanksgiving. Salt. Pepper, cream cheese, butter, sour cream. Wash but don't peel potatoes. Chop them up.boil them 10-15 min. Drain. I put all the seasoning in a bowl while potatoes boil. I like russets for mashed, Idaho for baked.

    How many pounds of potatoes do I need for 14 people and do I double the liquid amounts

      Hi Kathryn! I recommend 1/2 pound of potatoes per person. So you will want to cook 7 pounds of potatoes. I would use 1-1/2 cups broth, a bit more salt, and 3 tablespoons of butter to cook. Finish with 1 cup of cream and 2/3 cup sour cream.

      I ONLY use my ricer when making potatoes on the stove or Instant Pot, but to keep this simple, you don't need to whip out the ricer, unless you want to :) I would just rice right into the crockpot with the cooking liquid.

    I have a recipe for crock pot potatoes and it calls for 32 ounces of broth? Seems a lot looking at your recipe.

      I don't find it necessary at all. You would have to likely drain off some of that liquid. I use just enough, and then add cream/milk in to thin.

    The hardest part of potatoes is peeling them! You don't have a big anything after that.

      I would agree that is the hardest part, but unless you time everything up right, the potatoes can get cold, this helps. You can also follow my tips for peeling in advance which I provide in this video as well.
