When I played in TBC, I left Northshire walked to stormwind and didn't go in because I thought it might have enemy's in it. Then I got the quest to go to Stormwind and felt really stupid
Every alliance capital and zone looks better than horde ones they always work on the alliance side first then rush horde at the end. You do not even need to look at old interviews to know that just look at classic wow where alliance got their wintersabre quest chain and how tauren were not even going to be able to ride mounts until the patch before classic was released because they could not be bothered to animate Tauren on mounts. (It was not until cata that horde got their version of the wintersabre mounts and by then it was to late because you had flying in the old world and the night elf capital and forsaken capitals getting wiped out it did not hurt alliance at all because the night elf capital was just a starting zone while the forsakan one the second best one horde had so it would be like ironforge being destroyed instead of the night elf one.

That was a well-done illusion. From the other districts, the Cathedral was visible as a separate and much bigger object, which wasn't displayed in the actual Cathedral Square. One of the advantages the world without flying had.
That's why I don't like flying. Not that i'm generally against the concept of flying mounts... But the way it is used in WoW somehow destroyed many of those great illusions and generally made the world appear much smaller.
in the old version the view from a distance was made bigger for dramatic effect but since when flying came they coudnt do that anymore so it was scaled properly lol
@@evenios2831 could've done something like they did with Proudmoore Keep. The Admiral's castle can be seen all throughout Boralus, and even visible from the outlying towns

Stormwind used to be much more imposing and impressive. They need to scale up the central Cathedral spire (there's plenty of space for it and its very small for the Church of a capital) and the Keep (should add back those flying buttresses that arc to the mountains). Lion's Rest takes up way too much space and is again - unimposing. Should add some more military buildings and defensive walls around it.
Cathedral was smaller in Vanilla if you look back at the video you will notice they used a giant fake object as the cathedral, but you could only see it outside the cathedral district, as soon as you entered the district you would only see the real cathedral. This was made because they wanted the cathedral to be as imposing as the medieval ones were IRL a giant building that could be seen from anywhere. When flying became available they couldn't do this anymore so the cathedral looks a lot smaller even though it got larger.. 1:04 Fake cathedral object 2:56 Real vanilla cathedral Neat trick by Blizzard though, movie set magic on a game 😁 Castle shrunk though lol but the resolution was really bad on the old one so I'm happy with the new one.
The thing I like about WoW is the evolution of the world after some time. Too many people bitch that they don't like when things change, but that's what the real world does, it changes, expands, shrinks, etc. The world isn't the same as it was when you were born, why should a game world stay that way? Yeah, it's a bummer some dungeons are gone or altered or some zones aren't under alliance/horde control, but that's what happens when you have two factions vying for control of whatever they can. People need to wake up and stop living in the past. I noticed that when you did the park for Cata, you didn't name it "the Old Barracks" like blizz did, as if they were trying to deny the park was ever there and it was something else the entire time. Also, I totally don't remember the park building's having green roofs :P
The green roofs are a remnant of a completely different version of the park from the oldest versions of WoW. Sadly, this version was never leaked nor explored.
but...if there wasn't the harbour, where did players sail to Kamimdor ? Was Stormwind just like a valley surrounded by mountains ? Must have been weird...
Yes, the only exit from Stormwind was the gate, flight path and Deeprun Tram. Players used to travel to Kalimdor via a ship from Menethil to Auberdine.
It was mostly Menethil Harbor from Wetlands before Deathwing destoyed the dam. I remember it was difficult and the Night Elves were really seperated on Kalimdor as mostly other Alliance characters could not reach Kalimdor before lvl 25 ish. It was more close in time to warcraft 3 so it had a good reason.
I just remember taking my first character from auberdine to sw to continue leveling in Westfall cause all my friends were there. It was a hell of a trip. :-D
Kind of a stupid placement for Lion's Rest. If Sylvanass retaliates and leads a fleet into Stormwind Harbor the first cannon ball can easily hit that tomb.
I heard it was the original entrance for Wailing Caverns, but they scrapped it after adding the stockades, but kept the portal in because they didn't have time to alter it until cataclysm.

Can someone explain to me when Death Wing burnt Stormwind? If I go from WotLK to Cata, is there a point where it get's burnt? Starting in Cata, I have not met nor seen Death Wing, but he already destroyed so much... then again, did the burnt changes come in a patch just before 4.3.4?
There was a pre event starting the whole Cataclysm where Deathwing flies around Azeroth and burns shit. The destruction of the park and front basically happened between the pre event and the very first outbreak of Deathwing if I remember correctly, but its just in a trailer not ingame.

Yea, idk if you could somehow make the camera go from A to B everytime with a program outside of wow ( I assume you don't have that many camera controls in game ) and idk what kind of difficulties there are currently in making these videos.
I remember being able to finally fly around the city and then realizing the guy who redesigned Stormwind was very sloppy. Crooked walls, the bank in the Dwarven District placed incorrectly, some houses colliding with each other, etc. The only area with crafted care was the new park area near the lake. I wish they'd hire me to redo the city and fix all the mistakes.
Because of flying. Outside Cathedral Square, a different, larger model was shown, but it didn't change in the square. Since flying had to be enabled in Stormwind (though maybe it was better without it), the larger model had to be removed.
Remember that feeling you walked first time into stormwind or ogrimmar

I think the old dwarf district was better with the smog in the air, made it seem Ike the industrial part of the city.

There was also the ship out of Booty Bay, or stowing away on a Zeppelin out of Stranglethorn or outside of Undercity.

Yes, it was Deathwing. See the Cataclysm cinematic intro, where Deathwing flies over Stormwind. He destroyed the Park and damaged the towers.

Now compare it to Orgrimmar. Stormwind only changed 30-40% while Orgrimmar changed 80-90%

Stormwind didn't even have an action house in early vanilla. Iron Forge was the main alliance city back then.
