I am ABSOLUTELY STUNNED...I cant believe I've never come across this album and this band...I fuckin LOVE finding total gems like this...I've been flicking through all their albums and I'm just gobsmacked....Music really is the gift that keeps on giving and comin across Pond last night was sorely needed...Aaaaah....luvvvleee
This is now the hidden gem of a great band that is still a secret. But one day as they are so far ahead of their time. I’m glad I got them at the time. Enjoy future Ponders!!!!
Love that honky tonk in Sunlight Cardigan and Frond. Been following Pond since this came out pretty much, and love how their music has evolved and how they try all these different styles, but always groovy as hell.
are u from argentinia, pal ?I hardly cannot imagine how beautyfull it must be, to see em in such an amazing country !I´ve sadly never been in South America, but the symbiosis of those two absolutely incredible , lifechangin experiences, must be soo nice. You´re a blessed person, my friend
From watching these lads at Mojos, for next to nothing in the early days.... Toward their transition to the dominant gang of merry men they be. Excites me for the future of west oz rnr
You hear a progression of their sound on the first 3 LPs. Not necessarily needs to be in your library, but have a few interesting moments to check out. Psychedelic Mango (2008) has a Syd Barrett Era-Pink Floyd Sound with some Grungy Noise Rock thrown in for good measure. A 6.5 to 6 out of 10, the mixing and production really holds the album back. Corridors of Blissterday (2009) improves on the P.M. by improving on the production and mixing as well as the songwriting. A 7 to 6.5 out of 10, they're getting closer but still no cigar. Frond (2010) is where they have captured their sound but still have one or two elements preventing it from being perfect. A 7.5 to 7 out of 10, now all they need is to have less repetitive melodies & lyrics and a really good producer. Beard, Wives, Denim (2012), Hobo Rocket (2013), Man It Feels Like Space Again (2015), The Weather (2017) & Tasmania (2019). 5 album streak where I would score them somewhere between a 9.5 to 9 to 8.5 out of 10. They've perfected their song writing, they've got the right sonic palette and a producer (Tame Impala/Kevin Parker) who knows how to make their sound blossom. 9 (2021) feels like a massive step down. Kevin Parker is not their producer and they haven't learned the production and mixing methods from him at all. While the album has hooks, it feels kind of like Imagine Dragons featureless glop. This album feels like what Pond would sound like if they were generic. A 3.5 to 3 out of 10, they have no excuse for sound this hollow, poor & overrated (with a the good scores it got from critics.) Stung! (2024) feels like a return to form towards that 5 album streak throughout the 2010s. No score for it yet since I need to listen to it a few more times, but early indications are good so far and the production and mixing have the substance that 9 was missing. But it just as easily could become nothing more than nostalgia bait if it doesn't hold up. Here's hoping it's good. I love Pond and hoping for another classic album.
Hard disagree about 9 being a step down but I respect your opinion and appreciate taking the time to leave such a thorough comment about Pond's discography. 9's production is (imo) immaculate and I commend Jay and Gin for taking it on after working with KP for so many years. From what I recall hearing about the making of 9, they really put those tracks together in post. Tons of jamming and stuff recorded to tape that they then formed into the songs we hear on the album. I found Pond shortly after Tame Impala in 2011 so it was right before BWD dropped and I've continued to be impressed and very much enjoy everything they've released on an almost equal level. You are definitely right though, the 5 album run from 2012 to 2019 is as good as it gets. No way you can capture that magic intentionally and try to reproduce it. Just thankful it happened.
Somehow, Air fans recommended this to me and they were right - it is great. However, it is not, in any way, comparable to Air. They are two different genres. I prefer Air, but this sounds more natural and is a nice change of pace from days and days of listening to nothing but Air.
I'm quite sure that Kevin is on drums on this one and Jay is most surely here as well. Can't remember which instrument he is playing though, and I don't know who else there is on the album.
if you look the record up on Discogs and zoom in, you can make out a few names on the back. they were all using aliases at the time though (Nick, Jay and Joe) so maybe Kevin could've played on it but we wouldn't be able to tell
@@PMurray2694 When 99.9% of the people who trash Pond's more recent material are mad at them simply because their sound has evolved and taken a turn from the more rock-driven music they made in their early years, then it's pretty damn safe to assume that the guy I replied to is one of those people. I didn't "deny" him of his right to an opinion whatsoever; I merely voiced mine in opposition to his. The only thing that's "truly whack" here is your outright disrespectful defense of someone who was unnecessarily shitting on a band's work when he could have just as easily stated his opinion in a less antagonistic manner that wouldn't draw the ire of fans who enjoy _all_ of that group's output. And nine times out of ten, the ones who make their opinions sound as harsh as possible do so with the intention of angering those fans. I'd say that's more "whack" than my counterpoint to his awful opinion.
This is the album that moved me away from the heavy metal genres. Such a close place to my heart. Disappointed by where the tool their music recently though. Not to my taste. But it is their journey, not mine.
Well, if you're disappointed at the latest albums, probably because of the lack of heavy guitar riffs and drums, that means they didn't move you that far away from metal.
as much as i want this album on streaming again, not having it there and only listening to it here and there makes it so much more special to me

frond had the weather vibes before the weather even existed 🥲

One of my favorite pond's album
More people need to hear this record.
Those last five or six minutes are so nice. Thank you.
Love that honky tonk in Sunlight Cardigan and Frond. Been following Pond since this came out pretty much, and love how their music has evolved and how they try all these different styles, but always groovy as hell.
This is where I will start my journey with this band
Such a good album, every song is good.
On first listen I'm loving Mother Nigeria and Frond.
Don't you think Mother Nigeria sounds a bit rolling stones-ish? Like vocal-wise?
Betty davis 😅 this album was in repeat there for a while.. love it.
best pond album EVER. i missed out on this one for a long time
Cloud City such a funky groovy place
Frond (track) - Wow. You can hear it all coming together right here
I really don't think album endings get much better than this.
agreed, would recommend steve hackett's 'voyage of the acolyte', another epic ending
Could not agree more. Even moreso because its Kev himself ripping on drums.
I'm proud about being in their gig at niceto Club in Buenos Aires 2016... Just wished this song were played there!!!

I never heard this album from them. I’ll have this on repeat for a while. This album perfectly encapsulates what they’re about... or were anyway.
SKELETROLL !!! “Were” is the key word. Miss this and the Hobo Rocket sound
I love them, but I'm kinda stuck on track mother Nigeria at the moment with this album what is this song about?
@@claireskochinski7700 it’s been a little more than 10 months since I’ve listened to it. I’ll have to listen to it again to get a fresh take.

Nah, their new stuff is just as great. Just because it isn't as guitar driven as this doesn't mean it's worse.
