Thanks for the analysis Eric. I'll keep an eye out for future uploads from you. I agree with what you say about the "troubled implementations" - I would also add that some of the modules and some of the standard processes in Workday are a little "North America - centric", so it can be tricky to configure for specific country needs in Europe / Asia. In this scenario, it pays to have experienced HRIS teams (as you said!) involved so that they configure something that is robust but also configured neatly, so that it is easy to maintain in the long term.
This is great content delivered an easily digestible format. Please continue to put forth effort into your UA-cam channel as HCM/FIN implementation consultants can obtain a better understanding in their role in supporting customers work through such a digital transformation.
I am not so sure about Workday's HCM being that good. It's the oldest part of the system and it shows. Especially on the back end side of things. The API for HCM is notoriously bad.

I thoroughly, enjoyed your critique. I’m a long-time Bay Area Engineer, specializing in Workday. I agree, implementations have become sloppy and inconsistent. Customers are told info that is just flat out wrong. This is a mess that yours truly has to tolerate. I, too view Workday as the SalesForce of HCM. It is the greatest HCM app in the world, hands down. Some of their modules are not as proficient as HCM - Projects, Payroll, Asset Management, and more. But, the HCM core is strong and it is a great jumping off point. I’m glad that you touched on the company’s rapid expansion and the potential problems that it introduces. Aside from the crappy implementations, I have also noticed the dilution of their Company Culture. The quirkiness, the levity; indeed, both are missing from my recent interactions. Every meeting is so forced, and the knowledge that they are bringing to the table is often, limited. This is unacceptable bc it is inexcusable - learn your product. Thanks for your content.
Workday is not user friendly AT ALL for high volume corporate recruiters spending 90% of the day in an ATS. The number of clicks required to complete a simple task is beyond excessive (imagine having to click on the same and ONLY task 4 times in order to actually select it and move forward... why not just have that option default so no clicks are required, right? Nope) It is not intuitive and lacks customizable options. Font is all the same size and color, so everything blends together visually making it extremely hard to differentiate (imagine a full page of random letters all Arial 10 and you'll get a feel for what the visual is). Positions that have been filled stay on your job req dashboard as "open" until the person actually starts, mixed in with all reqs that are truly open (why not move them off the dashboard out of sight so we can focus on the reqs that haven't been filled? The basics, right? Nope, can't happen. It takes 5 minutes to complete a task that used to take 1-2 minutes. Work smarter, not harder, right? Not with Workday! The reporting capability is unbelievably limited and the output of information on reports is completely disorganized, making it pointless. It would be faster to create a report from scratch and enter data yourself, unless you want to spend hours deleting information so you can have some level of organization to sort, filter, calculate, etc. Finally, there is no option to SOURCE candidates in the system! Wait what?! Yeah. If by "maturity" you mean arcaic (DOS like), then yes. Workday was successful in marketing a product and that's it. What was delivered is a 30 year old spoiled lemon.
Nice job, Eric. I would be very interested to hear your perspective on ERP in the Higher Education space. Being new to higher education I was completely taken back by how far behind and archaic our ERP system (Banner by Ellucian) is in terms of HCM user UX and capabilities as compared to many of the newer cloud offerings like Workday, Oracle HCM, Ultipro, etc.

Eric Mayhand Workday has made a significant investment in expanding its compatibility with higher education institutions. Though, I’m not higher ed, I have seen the impacts of Workday’s investment - plethora of business objects/data sources, tasks, etc. So, there’s my 2 cents, for what it’s worth.
This is insightful and helped me immensely as we are in the implementation process now. When it comes to quality assurance, do you suggest using a third party testing team with the business team is more successful or just the business testing their business process is enough. Maybe another video on testing would shed some lights here for many of us. I can’t thank you enough for this post.
This is a great question - third-party testing can be extremely valuable. That agnostic approach outside the software vendor helps ensure that you have identified the proper business scenarios and that you aren't just rushing through the testing process to get to go live. It also helps ensure that you identify change management and training issues that need to be addressed. I'm glad the video helps - and thank you for the suggested topic for a future video!
Eric, This is very informative video because nowadays there are many HCM Solution Software available in Market. Do you have any remote opportunity in Workday HCM???
"Do you have any remote opportunity in Workday HCM???" were you looking for a remote job in the area of Workday, or: are you looking for a solution for remote collaboration?
Workday is a complete disaster, hours of training for a product that takes 10 times the amount of work to complete what was a simple task prior to implementation. Verbiage is awful with a million drop downs that all lead nowhere. Alerts on your phone that don't link you anywhere. What is the point of alerting my phone if it doesn't take you to any kind of option or solution to address it? And you get duplicate alerts on your PC and phone. Could be a decent product if... it worked. They should change the name to "Doesn't-Workday"
So weird how it’s impossible to find any truth about workday on UA-cam like the fact that literally everyone absolutely hates it and is forced to hand over personal data to and use this terrible app in order to work or attend college
Workday Sucks. Ask ANY ONE working with it. They pitch was great. The implementation makes people quit, go crazy have tiny nervous breakdowns.. if you VALUE your STAFF. DO NOT USE WORKDAY
Workday is the worst software foisted upon American workers. Every single element of the User Interface is obtuse, confusing and counterintuitive. The documentation is superficial and woefully inadequate. Employees are forced to Hack and Hope to figure out what to do. Since many of the tasks are done at best annually, the employee can't remember what worked last year, so they must Hack and Hope every year. My assumption that Workday's market penetration is because they bribe the decision makers at their customers. Frankly, I assume they have bribed you to do this video.

Usually, it is extremely hard for me to sit through boring overview presentations. However, your content and presentation are quite interesting.

Thank you, Patrick. Great feedback!
Great summary, which is the next best HCM on market? Thanks

Thank you for your detailed feedback on Workday. I love hearing both the positive and negative opinions of systems like this.
Excellent feedback - maybe they’ve improved this since..

Workday is insanely expensive and hard to deploy!

Workday sucks for the end user. It's the worst app I've ever "TRIED" to use. It's a piece of shit. Don't use this
