I found a spot where I could build the boat that made it look like it was in the water. I didn't even realize it was a problem until I watched this video. There is a dock in game, further south from where you built this, that I used. You'll see another boat near another dock north on the river. It's near the other workshop that's along the river with all the razorgrain. (I forget it's name as I'm writing this comment.) The ground in the water just off that dock is apparently shallow enough that it can set in the water and look like it's floating. (The dock is higher than what a person would call reasonable trying to climb onto the dock from the boat, and a knee buckler if you hop off it into the boat. (Geralt from Witcher 3 would probably die from the fall.)

There are ways to make it look like it's in water but that doesn't change the fact that as a boat, it should be easy to place in water, that's pretty much what a boat is for 🤣
It does not work on Xbox, I've just tried it, it says it cannot place because It is intersecting with another object and it's intersecting with the foundation
@@LucyJanePlays The message is typical for FO76: that it overlaps with another object and it overlaps with the foundation 😕😟 Sometimes it appears, other times not. Building a camp is often very annoying. But we love building camps. 😍😄
little info for ya as i'm at the part where you're talkin about freeplace walls, you dont actually need catwalks for those anymore, the blinds from the other scoreboard can freeplace nearly anywhere and window walls snap right to them.
@@LucyJanePlays well I'd imagine the boat floor is level, and has lines you could use as a grid to eyeball it but yeah I see your point, a little off would trigger me lol.
Minor point of order: the boat WILL go on water, but it needs to be SHALLOW water. Mine is currently looking very convincingly moored to a jetty on the shore of the unmarked waterway North of the Bear on the map, and prior to that, I had it morred on the shore of the lake by Thunder Mountain. My other character has hers moored in the same river your own, just a bit closer to death claw Island. So it is doable, you just can't place it in deep water, which does REALLY suck, as I was hoping we'd end up with lots of boats bobbing about on the lake looking cool and nautical.
It looks like it's floating in shallow water because it is sitting on the bottom of the river, it can only be placed on land, so nothing I said is incorrect.
@@LucyJanePlays Yeah, sorry, I worded that terribly: It wasn't intended as an attack on you, more elaborating on the work-around, that you CAN make it look very convincingly that it is in water by setting up camp near a bit that looks deepish but is actually shallow. My apologies, no offence meant.
@@LucyJanePlays Also, for people looking for a bit of a messy, lore-friendly build but without access to the catwalk (me, sadly... I love building in fo76, but not having access to that catwalk is really depressing...) you CAN just drop one of the campsite tales tents straight onto the boat and use that as your living area. None of the other prefabs seem to work, but it means you can make the boat your home, so long as you then have a little jetty and building with everything else you need that the boat doesn't give you space for.
@@peterclarke7240 as someone else pointed out you can float a blind in mid air and snap a wall to it. I had an idea for a floating wall without cat walks but haven't had a chance to test it out yet
For some stuff im fine and happy that we need to do clever tricks to do cool things like merging but the fact we need to be clever to make a boat float that's dumb and even worse it's something that you need to buy it's not even free
@@LucyJanePlays So on PC the build key (E) hold and then whatever you use to push the object further and closer. This moves the object vertically up and down. However I just tried it and you can't float the boat on top, but it does allow some play of moving it up further than the default build spot. You should be able to do the same on Xbox.
If they don't have the ability to let us place it on the water, hopefully they can at least remove the fact that it needs to be on land and have it as a floor object since we those are more manageable
I think the problem is that curved bottom, it depends on how they categorise things. A guy on PC swears it will go on a foundation in the water but when I try it says its intersecting, and it is clearly intersecting with the foundation
@@LucyJanePlays visually it looks like it does, but it's basically just clipping through the foundation because part of it is on the ground. When I move the foundation it is definitely not attached to it

Silva Homestead. Yes there are places where the water is shallower but there are lots of places where it's deeper too

To place the ship in the water, I build a foundation under water. The ship can then be placed on this.
Really? I tried it I couldn't get it to work, 2 other well known UA-camrs have tried as well. Are you sure it's not clipping the river bank?

I know you can snap walls to blinds but how would you line them up on the boat correctly? It's an option to try I guess if you don't have catwalks

It is an option though, I didn't realise when you float the blinds that they automatically float at the right height lol

I do use that technique when doing foundation merging but it's quite difficult to control on console it tends to max/min
