- The original version of Sympathy for the Devil on Sons of anarchy, season 5, episode 13
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
'Who killed the Kennedys?'
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What's me name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
I’m watching repeats of SOA on Hulu. No matter how many times I watch this series I never get tired of it. One of the best shows ever made!
Try Hannibal .
@@Sorter_123 That's nothing compared to SOA
Ozark and Mr. Robot
Watched SoA 6 times and I am not ashamed to admit it!
Gomorrah tv series is much BETTER than any of the suggestions above 💯
I was so shocked when I heard this at the end of Season 5. It's awesome, because Jax realizes that he has become just like Clay, and has become everything he hates.
SOA for life ! I agree and the end of the show was amazing too
Jax was so so much worse than Clay ever was.
@gtalobbyqueue9452 at first no but then he slowly transformed
One of my favorite Jane's Addiction songs.
Some men come home from the war the forgotten Karen war. Some do different jobs. My dad was a master welder liked to blow up things. He fixed. there Harleys. I remember them. They only talked about the food and the girls in a respectable way. Drink with him in the dark he talks with his crew. Very sad but I'm the daughter love to all who knows what I'm saying,,,
Guys. Bikes
@@anniemccampbell8852 did you mean the Korean war or did your dad have issues with a bunch of Karens?
I'm used to the faster more nasal sounding version in which Perry changed the words from Anastasia to "while his nation screamed in vain". His voice isn't as identifiable in this version, I'm not used to the lower tone.
No J&A ...ORIGINAL version is Rolling Stones made...
Best version of this song. Sorry not sorry
Guns . Im torn
Agreed
Truths had been told.
Way better than the original!
what a cover!! SoA has it always, the best soundtrack you can ever get in one tv show!! this intense scream at the end is my fave 3:52
+WdcMatches No surprise here. Jane's Addiction is awesome.
WdcMatches It's not that great. Like any hbo show has a better soundtrack like True Blood, The Sopranos, True Detective.
WdcMatches hell no
Connor McCartney shut up connor
Totally agree! The whoo-hoooo is the best!
Crazy, one of my favories shows of all time, one of my favorite bands of all time . all in one.💋❤
"I watched in glee
while your kings n queens
fought for ten decades
for the gods they made"
Great version, can feel the depth of pain and soul
Indeed.
No, just no
Love him or hate him, Clay is good for the show!! There are times when I was like everyone else wanting to see him get what he deserved.. & now strangly enough, I felt sorry for him.. I actually cringed at what Gemma did to him. Kurt Sutter sure knows how to fuck with your emotions!!
Every person in this story is important and a piece from the whole
Jane's Addiction did a fine job on this cover.
OHH yes its just one of many where the cover is way better than the original
@@annagrace21 it's a great cover but the original is bettet
thats a fucking great song, no version of it gets bad.
not even the claudia ohana's one.
@@ruialmeida7085 everyone can have an opinion, I like this one better personally.
Indeed
I Rode A Tank
I Held A General's Rank
While The Blitzkrieg Raged
And The Bodies Stank
What a stanza... so raw and terrifying... all the stories this song touches on are displayed brilliantly

I really cant forget how amazing this show is and it really impact my life .
I WILL NEVER FORGET , SOA FOR LIFE.
I really don't care what other people think about this version most hate it but I happen to love this version of this song and "YES" even more then the stones !!! The stones aren't bad this is just better !!!!!
Better than the Stones?! I'll have what you're smoking...
Agreed! I feel this version flows more..
There are to further covers of this you should try, 1st Laibach. 2nd an Elvis impersonator called the King. both are great in there own way. Only guns and roses have managed to fuck it up.
I like them both. This is a great cover but it couldn't have existed if the Stones hadn't done it first.
Totally agree with you Robert.....
Their version on the their debut album "Jane's Addiction" is one of the best covers of this song.
+Peter Fredrick No, this is.
The 1987 version has a wild quality and percussive sound that I prefer. The SoA version leaves me with the same feeling as G'n'R's cover on "Interview with a Vampire." Over-produced, not "primitive" enough.
+Peter Fredrick The whole 87 LP has that wild raw quality, that I immediately missed on their 1st Warner Bros release, so I see your point. But for me, dumping the bongos makes this more of interpretation, than a cover & it has really cool spacious haunting quality, I've never heard on any other cover. Less is more.
+Peter Fredrick
This.
So much this.
The '87 cover is the only version that is better than this cover. The percussion is more like The Stone's original.
I quite enjoy this version most
I miss the f*** out of this show. Sons For Life!
Its being replayed on audience channel every night at 2 am its right around season five when Lee Torac was killed by Otto
Garbage television.
Ne too Brother
@@Elwood_McCable You door handle!
Being a stones lover (damn im a dartford boy like mick!), and this being the song of my wake :) lol, this version is just as good, it fits the series perfectly, you can love or hate it but true music lovers will see it for what it is, a great tune and a great cover.
I fully concur, Michael West, I happen to love this cover, I think it's fresh and it's brilliant.
Janes Addiction cannot make a bad song. Loving them for years 🖤
This is a Rolling Stones cover
@@davsaltego it’s still a Janes addiction song though
@@Csnich96 i know...i love janes addiction version way better than the Stones.
this is a second side to Jane's you dont get too often. Makes the song a lot bigger. Cant say its better then the Stone's how can you. But its nice to see more variety in Jane's sound and style. Talent will give you a good cover! that simple
A great version for a fantastic season finale!
Best cover of Sympathy For The Devil. Perry Farrell's vocals are amazing.
I love this version ;). Such amazing song to end a season!
Very fresh approach & interpretation to give new life to a classic , it is definitely very interesting & also made the stones an appealing subject to me again.
Props to Jane's addiction !
Not usually a fan of covers of awesome originals but this is exceptionally good 🏆🍻👍
no he litterly rapes the origenal song.. go listen the origenal and you will get my point.
Well? Surprice Perry & boyz !
Love this version. Jane's Addiction hasn't lost their edge!
Kurt Sutter scores another coup with this tune ending the regular season.
This ranks up there with Sutters choice to use 'David' by Noah Gunderson for the episode in which Opie goes after Clay.
Excellent episode - excellent music choice.
One of the greatest season finale ever !
This song went so well with the end of the SOA finale
pleased to meet you
Opie, guess my name!
96Adriaan Opiate...? No, it's Bradley Newal Nowel hey, this is kind fun...
96Adriaan, hilarious! Thank you for sharing that mondegreen (a mondegreen is a misheard song lyric), I have just passed that one on to a couple of my friends with whom I often laugh about mondegreens, and since we've exhausted our supply of them, "Opie guess my name" is a welcome and needed addition..
omg...i can't unhear this now!
Oh god this is awesome version of this song.
Powerful song for a powerful episode.
MISSING SOA 😭😭😭😭
Brill Jane's Addiction great loved you from the start XXX
More is not more & this is perfect.
great cover of favourite song on favourite show!!!
Best Version!
Right here, Tara began her path to insanity
I swear Tara was never the same girl again after that
muy buena musica gracias.
best tv show ever!
Slide work is killer !
I like Sympathy for the devil by Jane's Addiction!
Great version!
Love this version better than The Stones. Perry Ferrell has such a rich voice and the instrumentals are haunting. Ferrell is a believable Lucifer, more so than Jagger
love this fucking version!!
I ADORE this so much
SOA is my Life!!
There is only one other show that comes close to SOA, SOA is my life but Vikings holds ah place in my heart....... They both speak to me in ways aii never imagined.
This is better than the g&r cover of this for interview of a vampire.
I enjoy SOA, but can anyone, besides me, comment on how incredible this cover of SFTD is by JA.
I love this cover of the original song
Top and best tv show forever
What a nice chill version ^_^
WAITED SO LONG TO GET THIS.
I feel a Led Zeppelin vibe from this song
I get a Jane's addiction vibe
woah!, dude I just realized how true that is!
I feel a devil on a motorbike
very good, they didn't copy the orig, these guys have been playin a long time now and this is probably just fun fuckin around and they came up with this. These guys were and still are good.
I love this version!
Sympathy for Lil Old me? Mwuhahahaha
the series is awesome the song so so to soft for the origanal janes addiction
The guitar solo alone❤
Muito bem jane`s Addiction.
Dave Navarro was also a character during Season 5.
I really like this - I just love JA and especially Perry Farrell xxx (:
Sutter is also talking about a Sons Of Anarcy Prequal Called The 9 folowing SAMCRO in its early days
First time I had heard this version of Janes doing this. Ive the other since I was a kid and is over 20 years. This version is cool. I think it shows some maturity in Perry Farrel for not singing at the highest note he can hit even though he could but it high as hell anytime he would want to .As a singer I have learned not to sing high as hell all the time just because you can!!!!!!!!! Cool cover..cool song...
(ooohoo... oohooo...) that's my fave parts who's agree?
Pretty cool cover, aint heard it before. They did another version (a better one imho) on their self titled debut album.
agreed the version on there first live album self titled is a lot better!
Haven't watched the new episodes. I wait until the season is out on DVD because I hate waiting a week for a new episode lol. I'm glad he is though❤
Ahh back in the day when we waited for the DVD 😉
AMO I SONS OF ANARCHY AMAVO I REDWOOD ORIGINAL
Tbh, Gemma's actions towards others to try and benefit Jax reminds me of what my mother would do for me. :/
There is that argument that this follows Hamlet - but you can also argue this is clearly following the Edgar Allen Poe formula as well (one of the 6 he laid out). i'm with you - but I also think that Scotsman is loyal to Jax until he dies - as is Tig - Happy - and Jax maybe is a bit rough around the edges these days - but he is doing one thing - trying to save the club from the heat. No matter what the cost. Then again killing pope? WTF? Lol.. Just the best show I've ever seen man!
The Stones rule, but this version was perfect for this show, I think anyway.
Did Dave Navarro play on this?
The slide guitar is beautiful.
+Nic Copalla I think he acted in this episode
It is alnost the best cover than ever
This is good but the Janes cover on their first album along with Velvet Underground’s Rock n Roll cover that goes into Sympathy is far superior. Highly recommend searching for it. God it’s good
wow, this is awesome, janes addiction did a good job on this cover
A lo largo de mi vida he escuchado muchas versiones de este tema. Y de verdad que en mi gusto personal es la mejor luego de la original de los Stones.
yeah i agree. it just felt the same as any other episode but with that said it was a fantastic season
Hell of a cover. Damn good song.
tune is amazing!
The Best...what ever
the queen is back !!!
Really, really good cover
This song always irritated me, much like Jagger's lips till Jane's covered it. I must've listened to it 1000 times now.
awesome version !! better than the original... ;)
SAMCRO NEVER DIES
Boots up, cold one in hand... good cover.
I was around when Yisus Croist Jackie boi...
Good cover, nothing like the others or the original.
Oh my Devil...this is the right version
duh... nobody is doubting that. but janes addiction have covered this since the late 80s. but originally they did it as a joke cause most of the band actually didnt like the song at all
Damn never heard this , thanks
If you're going to do a cover of a famous song done by a legendary band, this is the way to do it. Change it up enough to make it yours....not bad at all. BTW. I'm old enough to have helped Mick write the original. lol
I still like Guns N Rose's Verson way better when they did song for the bad ass movie Interview with the Vampire
If you not seen that movie you need to ..
Funny you say that...
Especially after how the episode before ended.
I was totally waiting for the "holy shit" moment..
It never came.
but it was still good.
HOLY SHIT...!!!! This is AWESOME...!!!!!!!!!
Always loved Dave Navarro guitar. He should have played it more in here. 🤗
This recording is all about the amazing Greg Leisz. Use your ears, listen carefully, he is a superstar!
A. K. A Tara's arrest Sons of sanarch S5 E13
Need it on Spotify and Instagram
Just for the new ones on the rock n roll game, this is not the first version of the jane's addiction cover/rendition to this all time classic song by the R. Stones...
this song reminds me of the juice
Sons of anarchy, when they seem to be closer to going legit, Gemma fucka it all up.
All you people talking about Gemma getting what she deserves or fucking things up...
Stop and think about her position. She thought her only son and only family was about to be taken from her by a woman who already tried to frame her for the murder of an unborn grandchild that never existed. Tara should have went to Jax and told him she couldn't live the life anymore. That she had to save their children from becoming their father and the storm of violence he had wrought on them all. She would have stood a better chance.
Instead she tried to rat, tried to frame Gemma, lied to the both of them about a grandchild being murdered and would have betrayed them all and destroyed the entire club. She brought all this on herself... even for the right reasons... she did everything the wrong way and she paid the price for her actions, regardless of how noble the reasons.
