  • HPE and Nutanix announced their industry-shattering world wide partnership on 9.4.2019!
    I have seen a lot of strange things happening and have been in the industry long enough to be able to anticipate certain things. But this one I. Did. Not. See. Coming!
    HPE partnering up with one of it's arch rivals, Nutanix. The news left me pretty much speechless yesterday. A lot of details are still missing and we don't know the whole story but the picture is starting to get a bit clearer and it starts to make sense.
    Here's my take on the HPE Nutanix partnership.
    If you have any further news about the partnership, I would highly appreciate your input!

    The relationship with Dell and Nutanix has recently taken a nose dive apparently, I’m looking forward to seeing what HPE have to offer

    • @TechEnthusiastInc

      Good point! So, if we look at the latest IDC market share numbers and Gartner Magic Quadrant for HCI, Dell is extending it's lead to Nutanix with VxRail. So, it seems to me they are doing just fine without Nutanix and so they are not putting much effort on selling Nutanix appliances.
      The same applies to HPE; I don't see any reason for HPE to put much sales effort on Nutanix appliances when they have a competing (some could even say, technically superior) HCI appliance, SimpliVity, in their portfolio. Nutanix appliances are only offered thru HPE Greenlake as an alternative solution for customers that absolutely require it.
      My opinion still stands - I don't really understand this partnership. It's one of the weirder ones.

    How does HPE's Kubernetes based "Container Platform" effect SImplivity and the Nutanix agreement?

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  4 роки тому

      As far as I can tell, HPE Container Platform doesn't directly impact SimpliVity-Nutanix agreement. HPE CP is based on MapR and BlueData IP and is all about orchestrating enterprise wide apps in mixed environments.
      On the other hand I can imagine plenty of indirect implications. We have to remember that HPE and Nutanix are still very much competitors in many fronts. HPE CP is certainly stepping on Nutanixs toes what comes to multi-environment management. But that's a very normal competitive setup. :)

    Hey Markus any update on this?

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  5 років тому

      Hi Robin! Not much official, I'm afraid (tons of rumors, though). HPE seems to be downplaying this news while Nutanix on the other hand is uplaying. It's clear by now that HPE will continue to lead with SimpliVity 100%, not actively selling any Nutanix solutions. When will Nutanix start selling HPE-Nutanix solutions, is unclear. Nutanix website just says "HPE Powered Appliances (coming soon)". However, I am sure that we will hear more about this at HPE Discover 2019 beginning June 17th. Stay tuned! :)

    hi markus...hpe nutanix now selling product with named DX series....what do you think...now they are seriously offer this product to customers I think..but how about simplivity ? this DX will take porsion of simplivity prospect customer ?

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc  3 роки тому

      Indeed, HPE has ProLiant DX in their portfolio. It's just basically a ProLiant server with pre-installed Nutanix software. However the catch is, it is not being sold by HPE, all sales is through Nutanix.
      So, HPEs own HCI solutions are still SimpliVity and dHCI, BUT...if someone has decided to go for Nutanix software, HPE wants to make sure it runs on their hardware rather than eg. Dells. I think that makes sense, huh?

      @@TechEnthusiastInc Hey Markus, HPE employee here - we do sell Nutanix through our channel as well, but only limited distributors and "pre-defined" bundles, basically a BTO OEM product. So yes, we of course push much harder for SimpliVity and dHCI, but will gladly offer a nutanix solution if a client absolutely wants to. I think that's pretty standard practice, VMware guys would go with us (vSAN) against Dell, Xbox fighting for a long time with Windows... Being in the same company doesn't mean we are friends, being in rival companies doesn't mean we can't work together ;)

      Hi Tagiiko! I happily stand corrected. 😉 Though, I do remember that in the beginning HPE-Nutanix was only available through Nutanix channel or do I remember it wrong?

      @@TechEnthusiastInc most likely, since I'm working for Central Europe we might have received it later, already with our distribution ready to resell 😅
