I love the motor on the first lifts! I think these look like old Otis's but horribly modded. I think Kone have done a good job on the glass lifts! Sadly we've lost that epic M-Series chime but I like the way they put an Ecodisc motor in the motor room! Great tour!
I went here again yesterday and both the lifts at 05:42 were out of service. There was a notice telling visitors that they are in the process of being upgraded. No evidence of any work taking place though. Both lifts were sat on the basement floor and a lightbulb seemed to be flashing in one of them
@@EEverything360 the lifts would definitely serve their job better if they were faster and traction. A slow hydraulic is quite a bad idea for 5 floors, also the lifts are quite unfilmable due to how busy they are.
There is a new MRL IMEM dainton lift that got installed to relieve the KONE's, it is quite nice tbh. However I don't like the information age gallery lifts (essentially platform lifts in disguise as very loud hydraulics)
Going back to when I was young (like 20yrs ago), the first set of lifts were something more proper (Otis I think). The right hand lift had a manual door at the back then (I think it still has an rear door, albeit an automatic one). The glass lifts at the end again were something more interesting, I want to say Evans, but have always been slow in-ground hydraulic. Completely inadequate for serving five landings. These are the first talking lifts I ever went in, they were quite rare here in the early 90's. The glass Kone's replaced some old escalators, again over 20yrs ago. The Kone's were installed when the Basement level was opened to the public. The lifts in the rear building have always been crap.
The rear buildings lifts are underrated, they are actually really good in my opinion, the motor sounds epic, the rare announcements are interesting and it's quite a good speed for the distance it goes. The last lifts got modded but still remain hydraulic as far as I'm aware, some tractions would've definitely been better for the distance it goes.
@@glat15 I was back here last month and you’re right, those rear lifts aren’t too bad. The front lifts are still way too slow for 5 floors, the Glass Kone’s are still my favourite though, spent a good time watching these with my kids explaining how lifts work.
The first lifts are my favourite and are 100% on my to film list, I just love that voice! The glass Kones are my least favourite, they're so overfilmed and overrated.
My favourites are the Apex lifts with amazing motor sounds and nice make stentorgate, and the welcome wing lifts, epic motor sounds and extremely rare female stentorgate announcements.

I was here last Friday and saw that one of the glass lifts at 05:42 is currently in the process of being modernised.
Well that's good news!

@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 it's wouldn't be if he said at 1:30 then it would probably be generic destroying the kone lifts
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 It's not. The mods just made them even crappier.

1:55 oh nice so KONE uses MX18 ecodiscs for their bottom drives!

4:15 I actually really like those lifts
I go there on 10 August

@@leethomas84 I honestly like the rear lifts best, they have the most character in my opinion due to the rare announcements and unique motor sound
@@leethomas84 the only lifts I don't like here are the ones at the information age gallery
@@glat15 I thought those lifts were overkill, a couple of platform lifts would have done the job.

The entrance Lester hydraulics I wouldn't say are worth filming either. The kones are so overrated

the main lifts near the entrance are allwise broken down
How fast does the second lift (Modernised Kone) go?
GonzYeahGonzo No idea.....
Shame about the last lifts. They should be replaced into new Schindler 5500 MRLs instead. They are way TOO SLOW for five landings!
well it wouldn't be Schindler seeing as Kone has the current contract
Temple lifts should receive a lesson from kone on how to install lifts
The last lifts has been modded by lift specialists.
Good
@@millerfraser9362 they still have the slow problem though, if they were MRL, it would have been far more efficient
Imagine if generic modernized the kone lifts, kone have not ruined their lift
Those crap generics are not actually crap generics they are just moded thysenns
The glass ones
