Maybe Your Painting Isn't Finished

- Painting is all about figuring it out. You go too far in one direction, and you may have to backtrack to "fix" it. All the while you're building layers, which add to the richness of a painting. So, if you're not happy with your painting, and you want to give up, you're probably not finished. You just need to paint through it.

My version of "paint through it" is "trust the process". Sometimes in the beginning/middle of a project, it can look like it's never going to come together. "Surely this can't be right." But how can I know if I've never done it before? If I keep going, more often then not, it does work out. But even if whatever I made ends up funky, I have *so* much more understanding of what I need to do and how to do it for the next time I try.
The first "thing" I crocheted was an egg. I was so proud of it! But it also didn't seem like what I had was quite right. It had a prominent, unintentional spiral, and the stitches seemed weird. So I went back to my learning materials and realized I'd crocheted it inside out? So I crocheted another egg, this time with the things I'd learned from the first one, and it was better. This is how we learn! Sometimes it's awkward in the middle.... that's how we get to something elegant. The awkwardness *leads* to the elegance.
Exactly! "Trust the process" is such a great phrase, and one of my favorites. When in doubt, trust the process.

I like to say to myself "if you don't like it, it just means it's not done with it yet" and to keep doing things to it until I like it.

It helps to remember that it's just part of the process. Trust the process and paint through it!
I try to force myself to post some of my art midway. It's terrifying, though! I love both pandas.
I can be difficult, right? But I do think it's helpful for beginners and people who would like to do visual art to see the in-progress paintings.
I must admit that I am guilty of using clever camera angles and showing just sections of my work sometimes. 😆 But I say show no work until you're ready!
