Its heavily underrated how consistently, beautifully the writers constructed the character Frasier and the credit no less should go to Grammar for being impeccable. Love Cheers and Frasier.
another uk comedy to try, only fools and horses, even has a lot of scenes set in a pub/bar, probably the best uk comedy ever made, and if you youtube it you must search for the bar fall scene, absolute comedy gold.
had one when i was in college in the 90's, The Abbey, right across the road from college. , it was a bit of a rockers pub/bar, lots of leather, denim, tattoos and dyed hair lol. used to go in most days after lessons or when i didnt have any, or even when i did. the people that were regulars there were great, i think it was the first time i felt like i really belonged somewhere, im a wheelchair user but that never became a thing when i was there, i was just one of the crowd, The pubs not there now, it got knocked down and replaced with a sports centre......

Most people under 60 have no idea who Ingmar Bergman is. Now if you did a scene about cardie b or some forgettable flash in the pan “artist” from today a few of them might get it.
I actually really wanted to hear Frasier's analysis of the psychological ramifications of Ingmar Bergman's later films. "Persona" is one of the my favourite films of all time. I would love to get Frasier's take on it.
@@VK-sz4it Frasier is a Freudian who is very familiar with Jung though, and that's what would make his analysis so interesting. We've heard so many Jungian interpretations of "Persona". A Freudian perspective from someone who knows Jung well enough to juxtapose his view with the Jungian one would be most intriguing.
@@jamesedward3619 I agree, it would be really intersting. Though, when I had watched Frasier I knew nothing about psychoanalysis. Now I know thing or two, but I don't remember how proper was PA content. I remember only hillariously funny parts.
@@VK-sz4it It was pretty rudimentary and mostly outdated. The fact that Frasier and Niles were Freudian and Jungian at all was pretty behind where the field was really at by the 90s. In the business this is known as a "cold open". This type of scene is usually constructed as a stand alone and has nothing to do with the episode that follows. The writers on Cheers were always masters at the art of the cold open and this is one of the best! Thanks for sharing.
Classic! Thank you for posting. I remember seeing this when it first aired. Kelsey Gramear is so good in this - watching his frustration build and finally boil over. "Shut up! SHUT UP!"
I know I must have seen this when it first aired. I've watched it recently at least five times. What great writing and acting! Frasier's "apparently Ingrid Bergman" usually brings tears to my eyes. I can't believe that I didn't remember this classic exchange.
It's in the writing........delivered by a team of expert actors! Check out how close in character Grammer is to the next biggy.......Frasier, 1993-2004.......fondly remembered Cheers; always a smile, many times open laughter....like being with old friends really.
One of my favorite cold openings was...Fraiser walks in and everyone's reading. Woody, something on molecular science, Norm on a new cell transplant discovery. Fraiser asks Woody if he understands what he's reading and Woody replies No, and glad he's about finished. He turns to Sam, what are you reading? New hair care product...leaves the hair shiny 😅 Then, in walks Cliff...ok everyone, gotta finish my route, put the magazine back in the bag. The writing on this show was indescribable! And the actors, fabulous! 👍
I'm looking for the cold opener where the blonde lady at the phone wins a contest and she gets a weekend away in Atlantic City for two over the weekend. Sam talks his way into becoming the second person in her trip even though they never met before. Hilarious.
Love this bit.....Sammy was right Johansen beat the shit out of Patterson in their first fight. Knocked him down 7 times....they would fight 2 more times after that and Patterson beat him silly both times....( just in case anyone else was wondering)
Where everybody doesn’t know Ingmar Bergman’s name.
Sure we do...she knocked out Lou Costello.
touche!
Sam should've played it again
I thought at first that it was going to be about the alpine skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark. :-)
The writing for this show was top notch. There was better quality of writing in this one segment than most sitcoms now have in an entire season.
I couldn't have said it better
Its heavily underrated how consistently, beautifully the writers constructed the character Frasier and the credit no less should go to Grammar for being impeccable. Love Cheers and Frasier.
Cheers-28 Emmys involving numerous comedy titles.
Frasier- 37 Emmys
Definitely underrated.
One minute and forty seconds of tight, original, yet timeless comedic perfection.
Sometimes TV doesn't suck.

Are you talking about Abbott and Costello?

I wish I had been in the live audience, since no doubt they did multiple takes to attain that perfection, AND all of it would have been incredible.
Unlike most TV of today.
I have never seen anything like Cheers. It was and still is my favorite.
Try BBC Black Adder. 2nd series onward. 4th series is comedy gold.

Do you mean anything else? Because have seen Cheers, so that means you saw at least one example.
It was the last sitcom I made a point of watching each week. Damn, I'm getting old.
If you haven't already, watch Frasier. In my opinion, it's actually an improvement on Cheers. And this is coming from somebody who adores Cheers.
Do not care what you do, how much you make in life........WE ALL NEED A BAR LIKE THIS TO GO TO!!
Had one for a number of years, but it closed. I always called int Cheers for the alternative crowd. [Lovejoy's in Austin: RIP]
Roger Grose very true. And go there every day!🤔

I go back and watch this every once in a while. Cheers was the best sit-com ever with some of the best cold openings and this one is maybe the best

Oh yeah, Johanssen. Inreally liked her in Black Widow
Absolute genius, both writing and performance...
I bet these guys had some real laughs making these

Cheers did it and is great
"Carla" is always so friendly 😆😀
The King of all Sitcoms. Always made me laugh and still does.
This was one of the precious few shows I watched religiously (the Shelley Long years).
That Abbot and Costello line doesn't get the laugh it deserves.
I know because this was very much like an Abbot and Costello routine.

Cheers is still my main go-to on Netflix when I’m in the mood for something to watch, but can’t decide on what exactly I want. It never gets old.
