This has always been my favorite recording of this work. Such brazen character! Nice lyricism in the 2nd movement. I would never want to sound like this (I'd never work again in the US!!!), but I love and respect the way he plays. IT JUST DOESN'T GET MORE AUTHENTIC THAN THIS. True Russian trombone style accompanied by a Russian military band....exactly as Rimsky-Korskov wrote....and that's another thing. Batashov plays the solo part as the composer wrote it....without all of the octave displacement histrionics many other players use. He respects the piece as it is. Yes, this is a light-weight piece, but it's fun...and it's the only concerto we trombonists have from a major name composer.

Batashov's performance is the most vibrant & interesting out of the many recordings of this concerto i have heard. Also very much like the band accompaniment!

The finest, most character filled recording of this piece there is so far.

Obwohl die Tonqualität nicht ideal ist, klingt die Posaune sehr kräftig und eindrucksvoll.
