Gojo's talk to Shinju shows that he understands that Marin has her weaknesses and private issues. He may not yet realize that he is helping her with more issues than her lack of costume making skill. We can see some of this from Marin subconsciously prioritizing greeting Gojo at the door over putting her contacts in (her contacts are emotional armor - when she has them in and makeup on, she is another person than her inner self - you see this in actors too...when they are acting they can do things they would never think of doing outside the role). Marin has let Gojo into her inner circle...he is someone she can truly be herself with who actually engages with her likes to the point of getting emotional watching her favorite anime.
@@ChibiReviews imagine S2-3 rolls around and Marin accidently forgets to put her contacts on and rushes to put them on... only for Gojo to grab her by the hand and say "It's ok, you don't need those contacts" I imagine that Marin will blush even more from that statement but as she goes to put them on, she thinks to herself "If it's just around Gojo-kun... maybe... maybe it'll be ok"
Love how this anime gives you an almost insider background POV into the intricates that goes in making a cosplay dream into a reality. Its very down to earth take with money, passion, organization and whatnot gives the show this very grounded and special feel that many slice of life shows with the 'follow your passions' theme seem to not tackle that much.
Gojo's speech about Marin was about him realizing that she wasn't perfect, that everybody has flaws and problems to deal with. I don't think he sees her as perfect and needs a rude awakening, he just likes her a lot

This episode was one of my favourite, I wasn't really into cosplay but this show is making me to get interested on it. The way they portray how their characters love to cosplay and how cute it becomes when it comes to develop the relationships between them is so beautiful. I wasn't sure if Juju and Shinju were going to be as good as the protagonists, but definitely there are making this anime even better. And the best thing is that it seems that there is not going to be a weak episode, each new episode is even better than the previous one. I really hope there is going to be a second season.
Marin is a tease. She loves the power she holds over him. However, I don’t think she has too much experience with boys. She’s probably basing what’s expected of her from erogames, and those aren’t realistic at all.
@@ChibiReviews idk, just a feeling I get and based on what we know of her. As someone who has been called an ice queen and a tease myself, I get the kick she gets out of teasing him 😅
That honestly explains her weird sense of priorities when it comes to nudity etc... she mentioned she is alone most of the time so she probably learned many things from erogames that parents usually teach their kids instead
A girl teasing a boy is not a power trip unless it is bullying!. Teasing is a way for a girl to tell a boy that she likes him without having to confess love. Marin is 15 in her first year of HS. Marin wants to spend the Summer with Wakana Gojō and finals are over so the anime is in July. Her father left when she started HS in April so Marin has only been separated from her father for 4 months. We can assume that her father has raised her after her mother passed when she was young. Her values would then come from her father and not erogames! Both Wakana Gojō and Marin Kitagawa have the hormone levels of normal 15 year olds.
I have no idea where the manga is going to go in the future, but I would totally not be surprised if at some point some day we don't find out that the death of Marin's mother had a huge effect on Marin. Her attitude towards life, her refusal to hide her passions, her reckless seizing of the moment, and her weird disconnects about what embarrasses her. There's a story to be had here. Marin is selling an image of herself that is a bit at odds with the reality of her core. The "almost perfect entity" isn't. And that's okay. When the day comes that the manga/anime explores that, I'm totally down for it. Marin is amazing for who she is. She's not a bad person. This is a show that allows its characters to be honest with each other and with the audience. Jealousy? They admit it. Fear? They admit it. Disappointment and uncertainty and doubt? Yes to all of those. Lustful? Oh, yeah! They are as we are. We relate to them. And, damn it, that's what makes this show so wonderful. P.S. Signed on tonight on Patreon.
Very excellent and accurate take on this story! Whether we get backstory on Marin is entirely open at this point in MS Shinichi Fukuda's story! I would love to see the father introduced!
It's kind of incredible how a show this unapologetically ecchi is simultaneously telling some of the most mature and nuanced stories about healthy communication, respecting boundaries, realizing your worth, judging someone due to your initial internal biases, the importance of new experiences, learning how to accept someone coming into your life who you don't believe you're worthy of, knowing how to put everything you have into your passions _while also_ learning to acknowledge when you're sacrificing too much, and how the perfect romantic partner for you could come from the most unexpected of places. All while being at once hilarious, ridiculous, informative, inspiring, heartbreaking, and _genuine._ I'm a grown-ass man and I can't get over this show. It's beautiful.

My guess about Marins behavior is that her job is a model (because I don't think they ever said what she actually does) so shes used to show her body but what shes embarrassed about is not being "dolled up" because she hasn't been desensitized to it
A few episodes back when Marin And Juju were talking about cosplaying and not wanting to ruin characters that they couldn’t cosplay well if not perfectly. Shinju probably knew her sisters stance on this and was scared to cosplay bc of it. But luckily enough they had the b holders and all that so it worked out perfectly for her in the end
I think Marin is scared of loosing connections to people so she constantly acts to be interesting hence the purple contacts because she believes that if she is anything less of different and interesting she will be forgotten. On the other hand, it could be the case Marin wants to keep a face of uniqueness to make her self feel better to not be ''normal or boring'' because of her past or something . Idk if this is right just my personal theory.

@@MichaSennin U kinda spoiled it for me but not since u didn't say which theory was correct. However , I will explain my view more since I might of not provided enough evidence from the episodes. Marin is insecure about how she looks this can bee seen in the bra scene and the contacts scene. When she sees Gojo without any unique appearance , for example the the unnatural eye colour she gets flustered and rushes back to put it on. This is strange since she is very close with Gojo but still not enough to be truthful with him. This lead me to believe that Marin is insecure with her appearance and so much so she needs it to be around her friends to create an ideal face to make her feel safe to interact with them or more confident. Then I related to the idea of wanting to be different and unique to get friends and keep them so she doesn't blend in with the everyday 'normal person' and loose them because she doesn't keep up the face she made the friends with. Then I had another thought since we don't know about Marin's past maybe that is why she is like this which I would say is more likely because we don't know details about her mom and stuff. Really excellent review, observations and comments on "My Dress-up Darling"! I enjoyed your Marin is to Gojō as Gojō is to Shinju which I missed. I am also interested in filling out the character of Marin Kitagawa. A good Romance story needs detailed backstories on both partners in a Romance. We have that with Gojō but very little with Marin. Because her values are so advanced for her 15 year old age, they must have come from her father who raised her after her mother passed! We can assume that the father is very successful as he can support two households, Marin in Tokyo and wherever he is, and his trust in her values to let her live on her own. Whether the author, MS Shinichi Fukuda, will ever introduce the father into the story is still an open question, but I hope she does.
Well, there was something else in this episode, Gojo realizing that he was in love with Marin, at least putting it into words Do you watch Jojo's videos on this show? Him and his partner have cosplay experience, so she can point out just how much this show delves into that aspect of it
I like how the little sister being taller with big breasts made for a useful insight as to how to use certain tricks to make someone with her figure believable as the male character she portrayed (which I expect from this series by this point), instead of just being there for fanservice gags.
Is it bad to say that I'm holding myself back from reading the manga until this season finishes? Because this anime's been an absolute beauty so far, but it could spoil the experience.
Even though most panels are adapted beat-by-beat, there are some instances where small talks and background characters introduced are cut down for runtime
Cosplay can definitely be as uncomfortable as it is fun. At conventions there's often places cosplayers can go and get more comfortable by taking a few layers off or other such measures. Heck at the Final Fantasy 14 reveal for Endwalker, Yoshi P went on stage dressed as the new Reaper class to hype everyone up. Later on he clarified that it was SUPER uncomfortable to wear that much heavy leather without passing out, but also "worth it."
I dont care what anyone says Marin with the blue colored contact lenses in she is Alice from the Duke of death and his maid. Good to see Gojo going above and beyond his skill set to make dreams come true. Cant wait to see the grandpas reaction to Gojos growth as a craftsman and artist, as well as tremendous personal growth.
you know, I notices something about the word teach or teaches or even teaching. yes it teaches said person, but to APPLY it another thing. though it is a good lesson
I was right about a few things...first being when they first met Shinju and she was asked if she wanted to cosplay too that yeah she wanted to but lied cause she was afraid her height and chest size wouldn't allow it making her unable to be that character. Second Gojo could tell she was lying and glad he asked her about it. Third when Gojo and this "new person" appear I knew right away it was Shinji cosplaying as the Big Bro to Sajuna's character Black Lily which I was half right about Shinju not cosplaying cause of her body not fitting. Lastly tho was surprised she wanted to cosplay a male character from the same show but it made sense nothing weird especially I knew there were people who cosplayed characters who were the opposite gender of them and that Shinju would think that her older sister would be mad at her I of course knew Sajuna wouldn't feel that way but be really happy if they could cosplay together!
If I had to guess I'd say that Marin is dealing with abandonment issues because of her mom dying and her father leaving. It's a little cliché but this show has been pretty good about putting nice twists on the clichés. So there's probably more to it.
You know the more I watch the series and get to learn about his characters, the more I wish the world would quit lewding them. Also please remember Shinju is a middle schooler; don't give the feds a reason
Honestly I think Marin is just very body confident, she doesn’t care about Gojo looking at her because she’s like - yeah I’m hot, which is great. However, being a bit of a show-off she’s embarrassed that she nearly looked foolish because she couldn’t show off the way she wanted; she wasn’t wearing the fancy bra and she’s like whoops that would have looked stupid. I don’t think it’s that strange, she’s confident with how she looks herself but gets flustered when she wants to show-off but gets it wrong and might look silly.
Can we talk about Marin's part-time job having a very good salary because man she has lots of money to buy all this stuff for cosplay, like what is her job?
Honestly, it's a 6.8/10 episode for me. I liked the episode, seriously. And the art quality technically didn't drop. It's the animation direction I'm having issues with. Too many "moving manga" and "still life" moments. I feel like I'm watching monogatari which I didn't finish coz my peanut brain can't comprehend what's going on
Tbh, I thought juju would ruin the series, she seemed a little annoying and the "loli fanservice" didn't feel like a good thing to happen to the series, I didn't mind the scene itself, it just seemed like something that would escalate to a more harem like thing which I didn't wish for. But I gotta say that as an anime only I am really impressed how they took her character. Juju is actually quite a good character as well, the chemistry between her and the other cast members is good and I really like Shinju as well, I especially love the VA's performance. For a romcom this series truly has some extreme promise I'm so glad to see as a fan of the genre.
My take: Marin starts as a self centered brat. Only manipulating people without concern of any downsides. With Gojo she starts to learn that her whims have consequences. That her concern for self image has a downside. That is her growth curve.
How do you all feel about the cosplay tutorial we received today?
Out of the blue.... have you seen Redline? If so what are your thoughts on it? Just watched it today and was blown away.
It was okay, but did you know that Re Zero is listed as a comedy show in Crunchyroll?
My friend is a girl with a large chest and she said this hit home when she was trying to cosplay as male characters
It was very informative; I came for wholesomeness and didn't expect education, but that is not a complaint.

Later on he clarified that it was SUPER uncomfortable to wear that much heavy leather without passing out, but also "worth it."
I dont care what anyone says
Marin with the blue colored contact lenses in she is Alice from the Duke of death and his maid.
It indeed is a good lesson
Hope My Dress Up Darling gets S2 with how popular it is just like how Komi Can't Communicate got S2
Take a shot every time Chib'si says 'Mare-in' instead of 'Mar-in'
🍾 🍺 🍻
This episode was very nice and down to earth 🌍
Did gojo just sponsor $6200yen to shinju outfit
Black Lobelia looks like Queen from Date A Bullet so maybe the look is in several anime
So love Gojou and how he helped Shinju so she can cosplay with her sister 😘
A real man right there 100%.
No wonder our best girl fall in love with him.
@@mr.wescottx7129 Yeah Gojou is one of the nicest MC 😍
@@marcuszeus5552 totally.
Binged the manga and i regretted. There's not much new content out yet on the manga, the wait will be long. Also dayum the episode is good.
If I had to guess I'd say that Marin is dealing with abandonment issues because of her mom dying and her father leaving. It's a little cliché but this show has been pretty good about putting nice twists on the clichés. So there's probably more to it.
This episode is rushed. But I'm not complaining, because they're targeting to end it to one of the best chapters in the series.
They did such a good job that even the mangaka is crying.
i think we call all agree that gojo is best boi
Hey chibi are you caught up on 86 for the final eps that are coming soon
I am caught up and I can't wait
Unrelated question Chibi but are you planning to talk about the final war in the My Hero Academia manga?
I am
You know the more I watch the series and get to learn about his characters, the more I wish the world would quit lewding them.
Also please remember Shinju is a middle schooler; don't give the feds a reason
Such a good anime.... I hope it gets a season 2
@@ChibiReviews You and me both, and it could happen: just look at Tonikawa and Nagatoro
Cosplaying can be comfortable if you are cosplaing in clothing that was actually designed by people in the past who wanted to be comfortable.
On further watching just realised Gojo is in the background of the final photo, could this be important in being recognised?
So uh anymore remember D-Frag? Also this show is something special
That's a anime I've haven't heard about in a long time
@@ChibiReviews well certain scene similar happened in this episode that also happened in that's show lol
Random question
Chibi do u wanna make vids on the bleach anime when it comes back
Also todays ep was great😁
Are you doing any reviews for sabikui bisco?
I love this episode, ahd she's actually handsome.
They actually cut a scene from this episode
This anime makes me look forward to my weekends more than aot somehow lmao
I’m gonna cosplay a Muzan Kibatsuji
CHIBI, Its "Teaches everyone AN important lesson." simple grammar that all
My Dress Up Darling gave us Happy Mikasa in Shinju! 😭😭😭😭
Best one ever and the sister wants to cosplay now juju has feelings for gojo now.
Doubt the romance with them will go that far
@@ChibiReviews thanks for relying back well will just have to wait and see hope for season 2 of this series.
@@davidalfaro1429 if they do a season 2 she won’t show up there either. This is the last time you will see her for a while.
I feel like I'm watching monogatari which I didn't finish coz my peanut brain can't comprehend what's going on
Great 👍🏻 video nice 👍🏻 hype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wait until it catches up to the manga.
GoJo knows that Marin isn't perfect.
No one is fiction or nonfiction.
@@mr.wescottx7129 wtf u mean.
@@sahil1017 I'm trying to say that people have strengths and weaknesses that make them unique and special.
@@mr.wescottx7129 true.
Am i the only one who thought the shinju cosplay looked like mikasa from aot
Did anyone said that you look like Milord Mirg?
