Believe it or not, I love public speaking. It's casual conversations with people that make tears run out of my eyes.
THIS!!! I love presentations even though they make me nervous i really like them. And normal convos with people i barely know are in fact the worst.
I love public presentations because make me feel special speaking in the front of the public. But I am not the better persorn talking on conversations!
@@Ally_Tubarao exactly !
SAME. Are you autistic?
Fr
Fun fact: The nervousness you feel doing public speaking? It NEVER goes away! You can do it hundreds of times again and again, but only way it gets better is if you're speaking in front of a smaller audience than what you're used to.
I wish people would understand this like teachers or parents, they believe that every human being can speak well in public if they've read too many books. (at least that's what they said to me) but its not like that, I love reading and I read many many books but still my nervousness doesn't go away when I'm in public and try to speak, and then I stutter or even forget what I was talking about etc. but especially my mom doesn't understand this
this is... blatantly untrue..... phobias are quite literally medically cured via exposure therapy. as a well documented treatment. this isn't a fact this is just misinformation...
@@foxylady5 reading has nothing to do with performing; having knowledge on the topic you're public speaking about has nothing to do with how well you can handle the stress of an audience. you have to work into getting comfortably used to putting yourself out there.

Me being a musical theatre nerd: I hate speaking in front of class but I would love to perform in front of hundreds, if not thousands of people in the audience

It's the classroom setting and the fact that it's graded makes it harder that being on a stage
@@ryanmeneo6301 yeah and also that you know the people in the class and YOU CAN SEE THEM
I was a school band nerd, and I hated speaking in class. But I had no problem performing in front of a packed football stadium during the biggest games of the year, and I didn't have a problem doing competitions either. I did theater for about a year, and I finally figured it out. I had to be authentically myself during presentations, and I got to embody a character during theater, and thus didn't have to be myself. And with marching band, I got to hide behind my instrument. And since I was wearing the full uniform, shako and plume (the hat and feather things marching band people wear), as well as my bass drum, I figured all people saw was just one of the drumline members, and not necessarily me. I've since played with various rock bands here and there, and I can perform in front of a crowd just fine. But I'm still deathly afraid of public speaking and making phone calls. Sorry for this paragraph of a comment lol
I was scared of presentations because I had to share my own words and thoughts. But when you’re performing in a play, you’re sharing words that someone else wrote. So it wasn’t scary for me.

Having a public speaking class in colleges where I had to do 5 min of public speaking in my second language every week really helped me in life. It helped me understand that I would always hate public speaking and have nightmares about it a decade later.
How do some people can give a presentation without any anxiety and fear of public?
I dont know, i just do it. I dont like to do it but when i have to i speak with full enthousiasm
That is the point of presentations, to overcome that fear, and if presentation give you anxiety, that only means that you need to practice more.
It’s called talent my dude :)
Just do it. I have a fear that people will judge me while speaking but there is just something exhilarating seeing people listening and become interested of what I am speaking about.

I actually made myself throw up at my presentation. Didn’t care what everybody would think. My hatred for presentations a public speaking trumped public humiliation in my book. And it worked. Wow I wish I had the balls to do something that extreme to avoid the freaking presentations
😭😭😭girlll please dont do that again!!! I'd rather fail than doing that...
I kept on being sick/forgetting the presentation until the end of the year so she let me hand in a paper.

We got a Legend right here
@@user-pq6he5jv6g dun worry I don’t do that sort of thing any more. In fact I teach now XD (Elementary)
But I don’t require presentations as I’m a after school club chess teacher
I always get nervous when I’m gonna make a presentation, but I’m not afraid of making it, because everyone in my class forgets about it. I think the more time we’re not making exercises the better
Back in school when I was 14 years old I really had difficulties with presentations too.
Now in job school with 22 years I'm nailing like noone else does in my class.
My tip for you is to concentrate on what you are doing (concentrate on the thing you're presenting and not on the people).
Also practicing and preparing helps, drink something before you start, deep Breath and then nail it.
If you make a failure, don't let yourself be thrown out of line, if you quickly just accept it and keep going noone will notice (besides the teacher maybe because they saw more way presentations than your classmates).
And most important :
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
I dont believe in myself and now I have social anxiety because of presentations.
2 weeks ago me and my friend made an insane presentation and it was apparently the best presentation our teacher heard in over 10 years of teaching. We are soon going to present to the head of English and later who knows.
What was your presentation on? For my epq I did the role of microtransactions on the decline of quality of modern video games, only got a C but if it was based on the presentation alone easy A*. Highlight had to be when I hyped up a game without microtransactions that was great and known to many as 'Wii Sports' and played the intro of it for the hyping up and I like to think that few have done a presentation that has the Wii Sports tune in it

As someone who has severe social anxiety and almost failed 5th grade English, (my slides for a group presentation got lost and the leader gave me difficult slides to present but during the presentation, the kid who originally had the slides didn't pay attention and presented them instead so my group leader announced to the class that my slides had gotten lost and that I would describe the slides myself without me knowing any of this so I just stared at across a classroom with about 20 pairs of eyes plus my teacher staring directly at me and I couldn't bring myself to say a single word and just broke down in front of everyone so the teacher gave me a 0) , this is relatable on so many fucking levels. Where has this song been my whole life?
From what you've said you had a shitty teacher, like, who just watches a child break down infront you and be like: "Hmmmm, fail."
@@jacquesmikewulffsberg6993 I didn't quite fully break down in front of everyone. I started tearing up and slightly hyperventilating but the teacher was in the back and couldn't see the tears until after I completely crumbled emotional as soon as I got to my seat. And yeah I was already struggling in that class so that 0 would have put me at maybe a very low C or high D (D is failing for that school). When I told my mom that day, she got so pissed at the teacher. She had a meeting at the school and went (in her words) "Momma Bear Mode" on the teacher how it shouldn't have been counted against me since my slides were lost.
Fun fact: a few months after this happened, I was doing a Google slides assignment in Science class when I found the slides at the bottom and I almost cried again.

This video is relatable to different sorts of people, like maybe with severe social anxiety or just generally scared of talking in front of people. Though I don't really fall into either one of those categories, I am still a shy introvert who does not like to take oral exams, especially Cantonese oral exams I don't know why, and I also quite dislike the institutionalized education system with a weird passion. But then it might be a surprise to those who knew me as an introvert that I would be willing to present, even when I am a secondary 6 student now and when I was a primary school student. It might be due to my expressiveness (as you can see in my UA-cam videos) and honesty, which now I would be frank like, "Okay, so...uh...I honestly think that..." and go on with it without being uncomfortable, as I know how to speak. All in all, one to their own opinions, I suppose.
Just had a presentation today. I was nervous af. I was out of breath and I talked WAY too fast, but everyone looked at me in awe and then told me I raised the bar too high for them. I find it hard to believe, but I'm super happy with the compliment ❤️

I’m a college student and I’m painfully shy. To the point I almost had a whole breakdown during my presentation last year, I was shaking, I stared to cry I couldn’t speak. That was in a class of 10 people 😂
Yesterday I did a presentation in front of like 30 people and I was still flailing around but I wasn’t crying. Then today my lecturer had the audacity to ask how I found it so I whispered “I don’t like presenting” so he started to rant saying that we’ll have to get used to it if we want to do a managerial role. I’m a business student. Then he said he knows people in the class are shy but we did well.

I'm like "hey I can barely breathe right now but I'mma tell you all about this stuff not even our teacher cares about 'cause I don't wanna fail, okay? Okay. Please keep your snarky whispers for the end of this will ya?"
I know a girl who fainted during a presentation, she tried rescheduling it because she wasn't feeling good that day however the professor kept pushing her to present so midway through it she fainted, hit the back of her head against the board then the side of her head against the floor. Needless to say the professor was shitting bricks for a week. The good thing is that other than some minor concussions she was fine and gave the stupid presentation few days later to a now mostly empty classroom since it was the end of that semester.
holy shit
Fuck that teacher, man. As bad as I feel for the girl, I kinda love that it happened so the teacher could feel like shit. Glad the girl was okay.
That teacher fired or is he still in the school? Cause that is too much why would teachers do that?!
bro was bouta be sued for his first born child
We had a girl in the classroom that was exceptionally pale and sick and she laid with her head on the table and did not move anymore.
The teacher, a male, asked her what was going on. She murmurred that she was sick. He asked what was wrong, she did not answer clearly.
He said she had to 'sit normally' and when she did not respond (or only sighed) he walked over to her and touched her shoulder.
She moved away and shook her head in silence. He did it again.
We yelled; 'Stop! Don't do that, sir! She does not want that!' and we hinted that she was in pain from female problems.
He then put his hand on her shoulder, shook her firmly and said loudly; 'You need to-" and before he could finish, she opened her mouth and it was like a firehose.
Green vomit, like in that one movie (I dunno, only seen references) was éverywhere. The table, the floor, the wall, the desk, the chair. It sprayed out, everywhere, she ran away to the toilets and fainted there.
I understand that maybe he wanted a clear response or something, but we clearly warned him.
I felt this on a spiritual level. Once in 6th grade I was so scared of getting up in front of the whole class to present, so instead, when I was called, I just laid my head on my desk, refused to go to the front and cried. I never did actually do that presentation.
I also cried when my German teacher asked me to read my German presentation in front of the class. I was never good at German, so I had fudged most of the presentation, and was not expecting her to actually ask us to read it. I started bawling from stress, and put my head on my desk in shame, while my teacher was asking why I was making such a big fuss about it. I was too emotional to speak, so several of the other students had to step in and tell her that public speaking is the #1 fear in the US. She was surprised, and asked if I could take a class in it to get more used to it.
The problem with that was, I had taken one already. Only a year or a half before hand. I couldn't speak still, but luckily, one of the kids that took that class with me was also in my German class and told her that I had in fact taken a class and we learned absolutely nothing to help with my crippling fear of it. I don't think I ever actually read that out loud either.
What I have learned from presentations in school- 1) I hate them 2) They teach us nothing 3) I am an introvert 4) I hate public speaking with a fiery passion of a thousand suns
(Also, when faced with insurmountable anxiety, I want to curl up in a ball and cry in a corner where nobody can see me.)
I can relate. I’ve cried during a Chinese presentation in front of my entire class
Don't we all hate school

That's another nice thing about being homeschooled. I didn't have to do stuff like this that only serve to make students uncomfortable and give bullies a reason to pick on them.
In my college we don’t get bullied for our shitty presentation skills. The worst I got was a pitiful clap and being stared at because I started to tear up and tremble while talking about Netflix’s history
Lucky I’m not i have a geography presentation on Wednesday
After middle school when most kids learn to have a conscience and not be little sociopaths you're usually not actually gonna get bullied so much as vaguely pitied and the purpose is, well, so that you can learn to speak maybe not confidently but without wanting to puke in front of groups of people which you might need later in life. I hate presentations too but I can understand they have a purpose, more so than a lot of stuff they teach in school.
@@whyamigae9666 we are talking school, not college. People learn to not show too much of their assholeness after school. Most bullies would learn to behave after school is over. Bullying at college is a good way to get yourself ostracized.

All my teachers say that the presentations we make are for making us more confortable with public speaking but I've just became more and more anxious ab it at each presentation I do so it got so bad that I refuse to do presentations now and don't even actually talk with anyone on school, tbh I got better, not on socialising but mentally better, all the forced interactions the teatchers made me do just made me tired, now that I don't interact with anyone at all and don't force myself to do things that push me way too much or make me unconfortable my grades are getting worse but I'm feeling way better, idk why people put grades above mental health
Did you ever consider going to therapy or talking with someone you trust about it? I am sorry, and I am just a stranger on the internet, but this doesn't sound quite healthy, and I know that there are ways to make you feel better out there.
I can relate a lot. Life got a lot better when I graduated high school, stopped doing presentations, and made good friends that genuinely cared. All my trauma and anxiety from school is finally in the past.
@@_the_ I'm currently going to therapy once every week but things haven't changed a lot, we are preoritizing my gender dysphoria but she belives that it might be caused by trauma.

@@keanu4489 Glad ur better now, I can't wait to finish school :)
Same here. I don't understand why teachers want us to feel uncomfortable. It's not fun to feel like life is surreal and dissociated when doing presentations
Whenever I do presentations, I always tend to try and not talk in a monotone voice. I usually add some jokes in the mix and and the very least try to be myself. The only reason I do this is so that you can’t actually tell how terrified I am while speaking. The only thing your listening to is me joke around but also get the information out.
I do this too but I always feel like people can tell I'm being fake. They don't even teach us to make engaging presentations.
I struggle to put tone in my voice without A it being interpreted as way more extreme than it is or B people just generally misinterpreting it as the wrong emotion
Also when I actually am laughing I make a weird noise in my throat, but when I laugh like a normal person it sounds really forced
So what I'm trying to say is I would never be able to do that
Oh my god I can relate to this so much. During presentations, I genuinely try to joke around and explain context if my presentation seems unclear. Like I'll say, "Oh during the 3rd week, one plant or two started turning uhm..YELLOW? Yeah I think it's cause I don't water them enough or they don't have enough sunlight, cause for context...etc."
Or when it's a presentation in class that has a teacher I like or I'm friendly with, I REALLY like to joke around. Like laughing and muttering to myself like, "jeez this is a really bad presentation" and then laughing in despair. 💀💀💀
So relatable

Well, to be fair, talking to a camera(even when you’re completely aware millions of people will see/hear you eventually) is much different than actual public speaking.
That's different
I felt the “can I just write a paper”
One of my teachers actually gave us a choice
Want tips for presenting? Here ya go:
1. like the random guy on tiktok said, choose three people (left, middle and right) and just speak looking at them, nobody will notice and you will seem to present to the entire class. (i don't use this personally but i tried once and it went well)
2. remember that's just your classmates. you know them, they know you, you see them every day and you will see them again.
3. pretend it's not graded. just you talking about stuff you like, no teacher.
4. convince yourself the topic is interesting and research as much as you can.
5. the method i use: write just the basics on your slides, research EVERYTHING the evening before and then just repeat everything you remember. makes you seem smart as fuck, teachers like people who don't just read slides.
also jokes. add jokes. or if you have something funny to say go for it. nobody will care and the best outcome is a few people laugh.
6. pretend you're explaining the topic to your friend. aybe even look at your friend while presenting, it makes you more relaxed.
7. look at your presentation if you have troube looking at the audience. if it's something as simple as a school presentation they will think you are just reading the text, but really it just helps with focusing. if not the presentation, then just find something else that will be your anchor point. take a quick look around the audience every once in a while and go back to your anchor, whether it be the presentation or someone's bag in the back of the classroom. you don't have to spend the entire 15 minutes looking at your audience, the reminder nobody even cares about the work you put into presenting this. just remember to look at them every once in a while so they remember you are still speaking to them
Ngl i used to be so bad at presentations but somehow got better. And i still forget i am actually good at presenting every time we have to present. Every time i will still be nervous as fuck and anxious and all that shit but when the time comes i will always be the most extroverted and talkative person anyone has ever seen. The teachers even compliment my improvisation and presentation skills (honestly that's probably what made me get better at it, i basically live for praise). Just relax, remember it ain't that serious and take it easy.

And, that no one looks on these posters, but that PowerPoint is also hell.

i remember the time the kid who is usually "sick" actually showed up. when it was time for her part she couldn't even remember which animal she had to talk about. said it was some sort of fish. the teacher tried guessing which fish for a solid five minutes before someone reminded her her part was actually about the duck.
