I swear this is one of the most annoying things you're forced to do in school. Why would I want to introduce myself to 20-30 people all at once? Maybe like, let me actually interact with people I want to, and let me naturally find out about their interests and hobbies without rushing our relationship with little information that still feels out of place af?

As a student, I hated these. As a teacher I don't love them, but I am trying to have low threshold questions that student answer each class to foster a class community and build discussion. Right now my minimum is telling me how you are feeling on a scale from 1-5, even just holding fingers up. I do believe in the gradual work of building a safe space where we can share. It's sad that many teachers just make room for introductions on the 1st day and then abandon it from there.
This is so relatable, and last month our teacher had us do an autobiography and present it to the classroom...like, sir??? what do you want me to say? i don't even know why i am alive
my psychology teacher wants each one of us to make our own portfolio about our stories since we were born and then present it.
Like,I get it it's a good idea but first of all it's 12ºgrade, so it's not an introductory one, and second I always ask him how to start it and he just doesn't explain how a proper introduction would be.
But above everything,I love this teacher's creativity,for example:by allowing students to present it how they wanted to,In past years,he had students who sang,danced and even made theatre while presenting!

I remember the first day of school one year, we ended up getting paired up randomly and had to introduce ourselves to the new people. The introduction went, really well, and I'd say is my best friend now. I attribute half of this purely to the question on the paper "if you had to eat a rat, how would you cook it"

That's the 2nd most agitating thing teachers do to us introverts, with the first one been forcing students to do a project with a partner. You know damn well within the first 2 seconds everyone already picked their friend and you're left alone in shock after hearing those words and realized that you will always end up with the gangster kid that doesn't do any of the work.

Sophomore year of HS I had to give a book report in front of English class. I was literally sweating and shaking. It amazes me to think about, cuz a few years later I stood in front of an auditorium with an audience of around 5000 strangers, and I held all their attention while I made up remarks on the spot. But I will never forget my days in HS as a borderline-psychotic nutcase. Life is funny...

This reminds me of an assignment I had to do where our teacher gave us a worksheet that had a bunch of basic questions on it and said “Go ask people to answer these questions and then write their name at the bottom of the question” we were expected to have at least 8 names written down
.... I had one. And that’s because the person confronted me first. And then when time was up, we sat at our desks and we were all required to say something that someone wrote down. And then some kid looked at my paper and shouted “THEY ONLY HAVE ONE NAME WRITTEN DOWN!” And that ruined my entire week. Screw ice breakers, I made 0 friends by doing them and I’d usually end up not having anything to say about myself.
